About the Role
As an Embryologist, you will take on a more independent role within the embryology lab, performing key procedures such as ICSI, embryo vitrification, and thawing. You will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the lab, support compliance and quality assurance, and help train junior team members. This role is well-suited for an embryologist who is ready to expand their skillset, take ownership of clinical outcomes, and support continuous improvement in lab performance.
We are seeking an Embryologist to join our dedicated team at Pinnacle Fertility - Ohio in Akron, OH. This is a full-time, onsite position, working Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The role requires a degree of flexibility, with occasional weekends and holidays as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Independently perform key embryology procedures, including ICSI, embryo thawing, and vitrification.
Conduct quality control checks and assist with troubleshooting lab processes.
Support junior embryologists through training and mentoring.
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
Assist in workflow management, scheduling, and lab efficiency improvements.
Assist with additional projects and administrative duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.
Experience:
1-3 years of experience in a clinical embryology setting (outside of an ART program)
Fully trained in ICSI (required).
Fully trained in embryo biopsy (highly preferred).
Andrology experience is a plus.
Skills:

Compensation & Benefits

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Laboratory Duties
Perform advanced ART procedures, including oocyte retrieval assessment, insemination, ICSI, embryo culture, biopsy, vitrification, and thawing.
Assess embryo and gamete quality; prepare detailed documentation in the EMR/LIMS.
Execute all aspects of daily embryology workflow with precision and adherence to protocols.
Conduct quality control, calibration, and validation of laboratory equipment and consumables.
Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, FDA, SART, and institutional standards.
Maintain meticulous lab records, chain-of-custody documentation, and traceability logs.
Leadership & Training
Mentor and train junior embryologists, andrology technologists, and trainees.
Assist in updating SOPs and protocols to align with best practices and new scientific evidence.
Participate in performance review processes and internal audits.
Provide on-call and weekend/holiday coverage as part of a rotation schedule.
Research & Development
Collaborate with the laboratory director and faculty on clinical research, quality improvement, and data analytics projects.
Contribute to the introduction and validation of emerging technologies (e.g., time-lapse imaging, AI embryo selection, cryo-optimization).
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, clinical laboratory science, or related field.
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in human embryology with progressive responsibility.
Demonstrated proficiency in ICSI, vitrification, embryo biopsy, and blastocyst culture.
Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, and FDA tissue regulations.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred:
Master's or PhD in reproductive biology, embryology, or related discipline.
Certification by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) as an Embryology Laboratory Scientist (ELS) or equivalent.

Position Objective
Working under limited supervision, the Research Assistant 3 will coordinate research activities on projects related to cardiac contractile function. The research assistant will work closely with other lab members and focus on research involving molecular biology of cardiac muscle contraction and perform a wide array of cellular and molecular biology experiments using gel electrophoresis, protein biochemistry, western blots, bacterial transformation and culture, high throughput small molecule screening, and other in vitro techniques. The research assistant will use various molecular approaches to bridge the gap of understanding between structure and function in cardiac muscle physiology. This position will work with animals.
Essential Functions
* Work closely with the principal investigator to coordinate research activities that characterize the roles of myofilament contractile proteins in the regulation of cardiac muscle contraction. Work on muscle mechanics setup with molecular reagents and/or cardiac tissues, and work with animal models/and bacterial cells in the laboratory. (50%)
* Carry out general molecular biology, including design and implement cloning strategies, PCR, mutagenesis, gel electrophoresis, gel purification, plasmid preparation, bacterial transformation, protein biochemistry, bacterial culture, western blotting, and expression and purification of recombinant proteins, and small molecule screening using myosin ATPase assays. (20%)
* Devise new protocols and techniques for protein purification and protein binding studies that involve a high degree of skill and training. Carry out complex experiments to characterize binding properties of recombinant and native contractile proteins with various ligands using a variety of molecular and biochemical methods, including but limited to co-sedimentation assays, isothermal calorimetry, microscale thermophoresis, etc. (10%)
* Evaluate adequacy of biochemical techniques, study and test new procedures, collect and analyze data, maintain lab records, provide feedback on experimental design, prepare and present research results in lab meetings. (10%)
* Assist in manuscript preparation and editing. May co-author research projects. (6%)

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience required. Experience with molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques such as cell culture, cloning, protein isolation, expression, and purifications preferred.
Education: Bachelor's degree in physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related scientific field required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
* Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures in chemistry, physics, biochemistry and molecular/cellular biology and in vivo cardiovascular function.
* Experience with computer programming and molecular dynamic simulation preferred.
* Able to perform various molecular biology techniques.
* Ability to follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job with minimal supervision.
* Previous experience working with animals preferred.

Working Conditions
Working conditions will require working on a muscle mechanics setup, working on a bench with molecular reagents and/or cardiac tissues, working with animal models/and bacterial cells in the laboratory, working in front of a computer for several hours, working outside standard working days or hours as required. The employee will work with frequent interruptions and distractions. May have exposure to hazards including research specific chemicals. The employee will need to take Chemical Safety Training. Required personal protective equipment may include a standard lab coat, gloves and safety glasses when appropriate.

Position Summary
The Embryologist III plays a key leadership role in all aspects of embryology and IVF laboratory operations. Key Responsibilities
Clinical Laboratory Duties
Perform advanced ART procedures, including oocyte retrieval assessment, insemination, ICSI, embryo culture, biopsy, vitrification, and thawing.
Assess embryo and gamete quality; prepare detailed documentation in the EMR/LIMS.
Execute all aspects of daily embryology workflow with precision and adherence to protocols.
Conduct quality control, calibration, and validation of laboratory equipment and consumables.
Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, FDA, SART, and institutional standards.
Maintain meticulous lab records, chain-of-custody documentation, and traceability logs.
Leadership & Training
Mentor and train junior embryologists, andrology technologists, and trainees.
Assist in updating SOPs and protocols to align with best practices and new scientific evidence.
Participate in performance review processes and internal audits.
Provide on-call and weekend/holiday coverage as part of a rotation schedule.
Research & Development
Collaborate with the laboratory director and faculty on clinical research, quality improvement, and data analytics projects.
Contribute to the introduction and validation of emerging technologies (e.g., time-lapse imaging, AI embryo selection, cryo-optimization).
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, clinical laboratory science, or related field.
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in human embryology with progressive responsibility.
Demonstrated proficiency in ICSI, vitrification, embryo biopsy, and blastocyst culture.
Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, and FDA tissue regulations.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred:
Master's or PhD in reproductive biology, embryology, or related discipline.

What You'll Do as a Microbiologist
* Propagates spore crops using aseptic, scientific technique following the guidelines of AAMI, ISO, FDA and the USP in accordance with facility procedures.
* Determines disposition of spore crops according to microbiological tests including gram-staining, morphological characterization, spore crop titter, purity, and genetic ID via third party.
* Prepares spore suspensions for inoculation on specified carrier material in accordance with product specifications.
* Reworks spore suspension spore titers as needed to meet specifications for release to production.
* Performs pre-qualification testing of the spore suspension, media, carrier material, and packaging materials as needed to ensure material compatibility and performance viability.
* Completes forms and reports documenting spore production activities to complete the Device History Record (DHR) and accurately reviews those from other staff.
* Calibrates, verifies, cleans and maintains equipment (including associated documentation) on a regimented basis.

POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under general supervision, the Research Assistant 2 will plan, carry out, and provide project support, community and participant engagement, and technical support within an applied nutrition research lab in accordance with general plans. The lab explores behavioral design strategies to enhance diet quality and reduce environmental impact, including food waste. Objectives of current research projects include improving human and planetary health through food as medicine interventions that influence food literacy and behaviors (e.g., cooking frequency, dietary quality, reduced food waste) to promote improved health outcomes.
The Nourish study evaluates a hands-on culinary and food skills intervention that aims to improve diet quality, reduce household food waste, and reduce stress by improving food and cooking skills, with a focus on improvisational cooking and creating flavor. The research assistant will help coordinate this complex study involving participants from the Cleveland community and approximately 15 undergraduate research assistants.
MealSim examines school nutrition program characteristics that impact child fruit and vegetable consumption and waste during school lunch. The research assistant will coordinate communication and collaboration with school nutrition program staff that participate in MealSim and contribute to data management.
Future projects will involve collaborating with K-12 schools, hospitals, food banks, and community partners to improve health through food and nutrition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Oversee inventory, scheduling, and accurately update and maintain the Team Google Calendar. Track and coordinate participant incentives and other lab purchases using Excel. Order office supplies, schedule staff, students, and space reservations for interventions, participant consent and data collection meetings at multiple on and off campus locations using campus space reservation systems. Coordinate participant payments and maintain accurate bookkeeping. (20%)
* Lead Participant Recruitment efforts. Recruit, engage, and retain research participants using telephone, e-mails, and GroupMe communication in accordance with regulatory and research protocols. (20%)
* Internal Communications. Maintain daily communication with the principal investigator and other leadership staff and students regarding updates to scheduling, lab flow, and any updates or deviations from study protocols or data collection. Facilitate lab meetings in person and/or online, take minutes and share updates. (20%)
* Coordinate research interventions: operationalize weekly culinary education classes for the Nourish intervention. Participate in and oversee students during lesson kitchen prep, clean up, and evening Nourish classes each week in accordance to food safety, research, and department protocols. This may also include local grocery store pick up of pre-ordered food supplies. (15%)
* Train and guide new staff; support the work of students. Provide technical assistance and support for 10 to 15 student research assistants. Train new staff and student research assistants on research study protocols, laboratory policies, as well as basic human research ethics and study designs. Utilize understanding of research design and methods, as well as public health nutrition, food systems, and/or human behavior knowledge to answer student questions about the intervention and troubleshoot issues that arise. (10%)
* Data and records management. Contribute to entering, maintaining, cleaning, organizing, and analyzing data and participant outreach files under supervision. Follow laboratory protocols to assist with data entry, cleaning, and compiling data to evaluate behavioral outcomes in human research with data such as food waste, dietary behaviors, and Nourish intervention outcomes. Additionally, work under supervision to validate MealSim, an Agent-Based Model designed to predict student eating and waste behaviors in school cafeterias. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Department: Frequent contact with Nourish and MealSim project investigators and staff to collaborate on projects and gain feedback.
External: Frequent contact with 180+ individuals and families (possibly including children) of the Cleveland Community through phone calls, e-mails, GroupMe, and in person. Regular communication with the University Hospital Bionutrition Core research staff and collaborating faculty and staff from other universities to collaborate on projects and gain feedback.
University: Continuous contact with research staff, principal investigators and faculty, especially within the School of Medicine, including the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods and Institute for Population and Community Health, to exchange project information.
Students: Continuous contact with 12+ lab student research assistants and interns from multiple universities to collaborate on projects.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervision of staff employees. Train new staff and student team members and direct student work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Food Science/Systems, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology or other behavior-related field and 1 to 3 years of research experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 2 to 4 years of research experience required. Experience in community-led or community-based initiatives and interventions preferred. Knowledge of nutrition, food, and/or culinary education a plus.

* Previous experience working with human participants in research.
