The project's overall goal is to determine which parts of the collagen protein molecule break down in what order, and at what rate they decay, where they first degrade in bone tissue, and to explain the observed patterns in these datasets. Duties & Responsibilities The Paleontology Undergraduate Research Assistant will assist Dr. Ullmann and his doctoral candidate with the subsampling of modern, naturally-weathered deer and caribou antler bone samples for three types of geochemical and molecular biology analyses (liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, trace element analyses, and immunofluorescence), as well as help image the specimens and process and interpret portions of the resulting data.
