Objective / Purpose:
Provides onsite in vivo technical support, implementation, and coordination for research project teams across the department. This is a full-time position that requires onsite work on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as three additional weekdays. The focus is on the ability to independently and successfully execute key tasks for multiple studies.
Provides technical and conceptual input into the design and development of well-defined studies. Independently executes on these studies, performs data analysis and presents the results and recommendations to the project team.
Contributes from the lab to advance novel and differentiated therapeutic modalities towards preclinical and clinical milestones, by working collaboratively with internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
Accountabilities:
Proper handling and care of mice and other rodents, tumor implantation, general dosing (multiple routes - oral, IV, IP, SC), collection and analysis of blood and tissue samples; work schedule flexibility, including a commitment to work weekends, to ensure optimal dosing schedules on a project-specific need will be required
Understands and implements study protocols in accordance with regulatory requirements for compliance with IACUC guidelines
Primary support for all weekend in vivo work for project teams across the department, including addressing and resolving technical issues that arise, maintaining a high level of scientific rigor and professionalism at all times.
Handles weekday responsibilities including (but not limited to) contributions to ongoing in vivo work as needed, administrative tasks, preparation for weekend activities, and team meetings.
Collaborates with team members across multiple project teams to create a seamless transition between weekday and weekend operations; Able to clarify requests and provide suggestions and put data into context.
Organize time and plan specifics of project related work with oversight from manager or project representative
Contributes to the design and execution of in vivo experiments, independently conducts complex experiments, exercising judgment to evaluate various technical factors and achieve optimal solutions, analyze and interpret data, and present results to stakeholders; Knowledge of data analysis programs such as GraphPad PRISM, Microsoft Excel, FlowJo FACS analysis, Nanostring transcriptome analysis and Softmax Pro and/or other equivalent software ideal but not required.
Independently provides work group with technical guidance and problem resolution related to methods, procedures and processes
Troubleshoots non-routine methods, instrumentation, or software issues and recommends systems, processes, or changes within project scope to meet objectives.
Utilizes assigned literature to increase knowledge base and implement improvements.
Maintains quality electronic laboratory notebook records and technical reports to support regulatory submissions as needed.
Education & Competencies (Technical and Behavioral):
MS in a scientific discipline (or equivalent) with 1+ years relevant experience, or BS with 3+ years relevant experience
Experience with data analysis software, such as FlowJo and GraphPad Prism.

The Center for Global Health, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Health Sciences Research Tech to work in Dr. Cassano's laboratory. Dr. Cassano's laboratory is seeking a full-time Health Sciences Research Tech to assist in a range of research activities in studies of cell biology. The Research Tech will provide routine technical assistance in the preparation for and performance of health sciences laboratory and/or field research under direct supervision and instruction from the Pl. They will perform standard research protocol, under detailed and controlled research parameters in a health sciences laboratory, clinical and/or field research setting. The research tech will conduct a variety of standardized tests and procedures; prepare data and samples; set up and operate standard laboratory or field-testing equipment. They will verify and record data and perform preliminary manipulation of experiment and/or test results. The tech will provide basic data analysis, summaries and interpretations.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A part-time Research Technologist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Shilpi Paul in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey PA. The lab works on the interface of cancer and neurological disorders. We are interested in understanding how cells exposed to stressors like oxidative stress utilize different damage response pathways to maintain genome and proteome integrity; how these proteins are misregulated during cancer, aging and neurological disorders.
This position involves key research responsibilities such as culturing primary mouse neurons and other mammalian cell lines, modifying gene expression in cell culture systems (via si RNA and lentivirus), analyzing gene and protein expression, and immunofluorescence. Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) is essential. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn new techniques, demonstrate responsibility, be self-motivated and conscientious, adaptable, a strong communicator, and possess excellent organizational skills. Additionally, candidates will be expected to collaborate on developing and designing research projects under the guidance of faculty and senior lab postdoctoral fellows. A Bachelor's degree is, with a preference for a Master's degree in biomedical sciences or a related field.

Works with staff, technicians, volunteers, and contractors to implement Public Access and Recreation components of Management Plans. Duties include, but are not limited to 1) clearing, marking, and maintaining recreational trails, 2) monitoring recreational use and its impacts, and 3) constructing amenities such as camping platforms and benches.

**Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC)** is a program of the non-profit service organization, Conservation Legacy, that is built on the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) that operated from 1933 - 1942. SCC provides youth and young adults opportunities to complete conservation projects primarily on public lands. While serving with SCC, members receive training on job skills, conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Programs are developed using a step ladder approach to provide a progression of skill development based on a member's needs. Members receive a weekly living allowance, training, and an AmeriCorps Education Award (for qualifying individuals).
**Program Overview:**
The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Royal Gorge Field Office (RGFO) administers more than 668,000 surface acres of public land along the Front Range of Colorado and 6.8 million subsurface acres. Since the field office spans such a large area, it covers a variety of terrain and is involved in a multitude of initiatives and programs.
The wildlife program is responsible for analyzing impacts to wildlife habitat as a result of actions on public lands. They make recommendations to line officers to minimize and/or mitigate impacts. In addition, they monitor populations of special status species, conduct habitat improvement projects, conduct education activities for youth, etc. The Individual Placement (IP) will primarily assist with surveys for Piñon Jays and Northern Goshawks among other species during the 2024 season. The IP will be involved in several research, monitoring, and inventory projects pertaining to raptors, BLM sensitive species, and threatened and endangered species (e.g. Mexican spotted owls, federally listed plants, Canada lynx). The IP will get exposure to study design, data collection, data analysis, and writing and communication of findings.

* Search for Northern Goshawk nests
* Assist graduate research assistant with capture and banding of Goshawks
Mexican Spotted Owl Surveys
* Survey for Mexican spotted owls
* Determine the presence of breeding pairs and/or juvenile owlets
NA Bat Acoustic Data Collection
* Set bat acoustic detectors
* Manage sound data in digital database
Snow Shoe Hare Population Monitoring and Analysis
* Assist biologist in data collection
* Data entry into an ArcGIS data set
* Assist biologist with composition of final report
Special Status Species Monitoring
* Implement survey protocol across multiple species on BLM lands
* Communicate findings with BLM field office regarding species of interest
* Conduct analysis and author reports
**Preferred Qualifications or a Strong Desire to Grow in the Following:**
* Completion of a bachelor's degree in wildlife science or a similar field
* Capable of conducting field work in remote, mountainous terrain
* Experience surveying for avian species is a plus
**Training Provided:**
Field trainings to understand wildlife ID and behavior
**Potential Environmental or Human Risk Involved:**
The work is physical in nature, the RFGO utilizes a sign in/out system to have accountability of individuals in the field, extreme hot and cold temperatures, high elevation hiking, slips, trips, falls

**General Requirements:**
* Received or on track to receive high school diploma or GED
* Valid U.S. Drivers License
* Per grant funding, candidate must be 18-30 years of age or up to 35 years of age if veteran status
* U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident
* Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
