Job Title: Microbiology Analyst
Duration: 6-month contract (Temp, with potential for full-time conversion

Schedule: Must be able to work the required schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. Inability to work weekends is a deal breaker.
The Opportunity: What You'll Do
You will be a key member of a 10-person lab team, contributing to critical product hold and release testing. Your main focus in the first 90 days will be completing training on sample preparation and petrifilm methods.
Perform critical testing to ensure product quality and compliance.
Work closely with other analysts and the line manager.
Be a reliable, positive, and collaborative team player.
Required Qualifications (Deal Breakers)

Education: Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.

Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, research-track faculty position (#123620) in forensic anthropology at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025.
The successful candidate is expected to have research and teaching experience in forensic anthropology; specialization is open. The successful candidate will teach courses in their areas of expertise at the undergraduate level. Qualified applicants must show evidence of an active research agenda, a record of successful grant writing, teaching experience, and professional activity. The position will be housed within the MTSU Forensic Institute for Research and Education (FIRE) and will require mentorship of forensic anthropology students on the FASR (Forensic Anthropology Search and Recovery) Team. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in forensic anthropology casework and a willingness to collaborate on research with faculty in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.
Required Education
A terminal degree in anthropology is required by the appointment date.
Required License/Registration/Certification

Area Information
The 600-acre National Battlefield includes Stones River National Cemetery, established in 1865, with more than 6,000 Union graves; and the Hazen Brigade Monument, believed to be the oldest, intact Civil War monument still standing in its original location. Portions of Fortress Rosecrans, a large earthen fort constructed after the battle, still stand and are preserved and interpreted by the National Park Service. Much of the nearly 4,000-acre battlefield is in private hands.
Murfreesboro has plenty of shopping opportunities, great medical facilities, and schools to include Middle Tennessee University. Summers are generally hot with high humidity, but there is an extensive green belt for walking, hiking & bicycling. There is plenty of housing to be had in the area however the market is moving quickly.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement, 12/16/2025, unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: research activity or control program work, nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment, work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and sanitary conditions were kept in accordance with modern dairy practice. Farming experience that was not performed in a controlled environment, or experience as a laborer who was not responsible for planning and scheduling his/her own work, but only performed assigned tasks, would not qualify as specialized experience. You must include hours per week worked.
* OR-
EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least six semester hours must have been directly related to the position being filled. You must include transcripts.
* OR-
Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience as described above (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework as specified above (50% of the related coursework required), 3 semester hours of which was related to the work of this position. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Qualifications

* Has learned to test boilers, water heaters and pool heaters or other gas appliances to standards.
* Has learned to use and service most of the lab equipment.
* Possesses a working knowledge of all CSA tests, the proper way to conduct those tests, and the proper form for recording the data produced by those tests
* Has a working knowledge of basic algebraic functions and demonstrates same on a daily basis
* Can act with limited supervision on applying and trouble-shooting initial unit set up
* Uses independent decision making and analysis
* Can analyze problems, present solutions and implements decisions

Strong background in ruminant physiology, biochemistry, or methane emission quantification techniques.
