The historical mission of the department was to address technology needs related to the development of geothermal energy (a baseload renewable energy resource); in particular accessing, monitoring and engineering of geothermal resources in subsurface geologic environments. This mission continues, but the capabilities of the organization have also been leveraged to address other issues of national importance. Current activities are broad in scope and require the efforts of multidisciplinary technical teams with expertise in mechanical engineering, drilling technologies, electronics, geosciences, materials, sensors, and explosives/propellants. Our customer base spans a wide variety of governmental and private sponsors, and we work closely with the geothermal power industry, oil & gas developers, service companies, other national laboratories and academia. In addition, the department maintains and continually updates a wide variety of unique testing capabilities for evaluation of technologies in simulated downhole environments. The laboratory manager administers all activities crucial for work in a research or test laboratory. Maintain accurate records verifying that required samples have been collected, processed and dispersed to appropriate testing laboratories. 4.10. Reviewing the incoming data for completeness and adherence to specifications. 4.11. Maintain communication links between different testing laboratories to ensure timely testing and accuracy of samples. 4.12. Create and Maintain laboratory procedures and governing documents. 4.13. The NMHU-BioPACIFIC MIP PREM represents a collaboration between New Mexico Highlands University ( NMHU ) and BioPACIFIC Materials Innovation Platform ( MIP ) at University of California, Santa Barbara ( UCSB ) and University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA ) in design, synthesis and applications of metal-organic hybrid biomaterials. An appointee in this position will be responsible for chemical synthesis and characterization of organic-inorganic hybrid materials including but not limited to metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and synthetic perovskites. Characterization of synthesized materials will include diffraction, spectroscopic, magnetic and thermal characterization and other methods. An appointee should supervise both undergraduate and graduate students. He/she should present obtained results in form of research conference presentations and publications. Duties And Responsibilities Conduct research in the appropriate field of materials science and chemistry, publish findings in professional journals, and apply for extramural funding; Maintain regular attendance on campus; hold office hours as required; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; Perform other related duties as assigned.
