    General Description The Johns Hopkins All Children's Institute for Fundamental Biomedical Research (IFBR) is recruiting for a basic science research faculty member to be located on the St. Petersburg, Florida campus. The selected candidate will hold a full time tenure-track faculty appointment with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM), rank commensurate with experience (Assistant, Associate or full Professor). We are interested in candidates whose proposed research has broad relevance to the control of metabolism related to disease states with relevance to children's health. Additionally, preferred research areas include, but are not limited to genomics, epigenomics, nuclear receptor research, lipid signaling, bioinformatics, transcriptional and system level analyses of cells and tissues involved in whole body metabolism and/or disease processes. Candidates whose research offers translational potential in obesity, diabetes, endocrine, inflammatory or degenerative diseases are particularly encouraged to apply. The Faculty opportunity requires a PhD or MD/PhD in Biological Science or related field with outstanding training and experience in research pertaining to one of the focus areas noted above. Candidates are expected to establish rigorous and competitive basic research programs addressing unmet clinical needs, and to secure support from diverse funding sources. Applicants are also expected to collaborate with existing members of IFBR and other Johns Hopkins faculty located both in Florida and Baltimore. Successful candidates are expected to have an impressive publication record and exceptional research accomplishments consistent with their academic level. Proven ability to secure external funding would be a plus. The newly hired faculty member will join a cluster of 9 JHUSOM basic science faculty with research space in the Johns Hopkins All Children's Research and Education Building. This state of the art $95M 230,000 square foot building is home to basic science, clinical and translational research as well as educational programs including a Medical Simulation Center. The building includes over 40,000 square feet of wet laboratory space, an accredited centralized pediatric biorepository, a tissue-based research and diagnostics core, BSL3 facilities, an onsite vivarium, as well as extensive areas for collaborative discussion. Summary The NeuroOncology Program, led by Dr. Michael Vogelbaum, is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Coordinator for the Research Database. This vital position is about more than just reviewing and updating electronic medical records for research participants; it's about interpreting essential reports, including pathology and radiology, and ensuring data abstraction, management, and quality assurance while upholding the sacred trust of patient privacy. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting groundbreaking non-therapeutic studies conducted by Dr. Vogelbaum and other faculty members in the Program, contributing to a brighter future in cancer research. Position Highlights: * Works collaboratively with Total Cancer Care Protocol (TCCP), Principal Investigators, clinical faculty/staff and study team to coordinate tasks related to completing data abstraction. * Supports a limited number of PI-initiated research projects for non- therapeutic research studies with minimal supervision as assigned. The Ideal Candidate: * Must have experience in data abstraction, utilizes various sources such as data collection tools or subject's medical records and enters into an electronic database system, while maintaining privacy and protecting PHI. * Must have experience in data management enters accurate data in a timely fashion, identifies data discrepancies, missing data and follows up with resolution. * Must have experience in general quality assurance and quality checks on the data such as proofing for data entry errors and maintaining accurate data. * Demonstrates an understanding of medical terminology, most specifically terms related to anatomy, physiology, oncology, pathology, radiology and cancer treatment modalities. * Must be comfortable talking to physicians and other health care professionals. * Must have the ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple work assignments; develop and maintain effective work relationships. * Must have the ability to read, write, interpret and apply instructions to assigned activities. * Must have experience in the use of basic office equipment. Responsibilities: * Perform data abstraction across a large research study portfolio for studies ranging in timelines with a growing team by accessing different technologies sources and tools. * Maintain high quality data by protecting patient privacy, performing quality checks within internal databases, completing quality audits and resolve all data queries from internal or external reviews. * Prepare data abstraction forms and databases in Redcap or keep current with assigned electronic data capture systems such as external sponsored systems. * Deliver strong customer experience by establishing expectations, timelines for deliverables, and proactively communicating with all customers. Credentials and Qualifications: * High School Diploma/GED required. Associate degree is preferred. * A minimum of 1 year of experience in using data processing techniques, word processing software and typing required. * Experience using database software programs needed. * Must be able to interpret components of the medical record, including pathology, radiology, history and physical, operative and discharge reports. * Must be familiar with confidentiality requirements and be able to maintain security of subject data. * Good oral and written communication skills needed. * Must be comfortable talking to physicians and health care professionals. * Knowledge of medical terminology is helpful and preferred. The lab focuses on the genomics, molecular epidemiology, and transmission dynamics of parasitic and vector-borne diseases, with a special emphasis on Trypanosoma cruzi and Chagas disease. The selected postdoctoral researcher will play a key role in advancing projects centered on the vector biology, population genomics, bioinformatics, and evolutionary biology of triatomine vectors. This position offers the opportunity to integrate cutting-edge computational and experimental approaches to address fundamental questions in parasite-vector evolution and adaptation. Major research activities will include: •Generating and annotating high-quality reference genomes for triatomine species using long- and short-read sequencing platforms. •Conducting population and comparative genomics analyses to investigate genetic diversity, structure, gene flow, local adaptation, and evolutionary trajectories related to T. cruzi transmission. •Applying evolutionary biology frameworks to explore speciation, adaptation, and gene family evolution in triatomine vectors. •Exploring functional biology through transcriptomic, comparative genomic, and molecular approaches to understand parasite-vector interactions. •Integrating genomic, bioinformatic, ecological, and epidemiological data to inform risk mapping, surveillance, and vector control strategies in the United States. The fellow will have access to USF's Genomics Program and Core Facilities, including Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, and PacBio sequencing platforms, and will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary network of entomologists, epidemiologists, evolutionary biologists, and public health professionals. Additional responsibilities include preparing manuscripts for publication, presenting at national and international conferences, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and contributing to grant development. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a scientist with a strong background in vector biology, bioinformatics, and evolutionary and population genomics to develop an independent research profile while contributing to cutting-edge studies on Chagas disease and vector adaptation. Integrate genomic, ecological, and epidemiological datasets to generate insights into disease transmission and support risk prediction models for Chagas disease in the United States. Develop and maintain bioinformatic workflows and data analysis pipelines for population and functional genomics studies. Contribute to the preparation of peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and grant proposals. Participate in the mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students, fostering skill development in genomics, bioinformatics, and evolutionary analyses. Engage in collaborative research initiatives with national and international partners in vector genomics, parasitology, and public health.
