Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Center for AI, Data Science & Informatics directed by Dr. Jay S. Patel at the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry (Philadelphia, PA). The postdoc will conduct high-quality research at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and dentistry; develop and test hypotheses; and analyze complex, large-scale datasets. Responsibilities include collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams, grant/proposal development, mentoring junior researchers, computer programming and software/tooling, and contributing to peer-reviewed publications. The role may also include assisting with teaching and presenting findings to academic and professional audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical/Health Informatics, Computational Biology, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, or multimodal data fusion.
Strong programming proficiency in Python, R, and SQL, with experience in TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
Experience with healthcare datasets (e.g., EHR, claims, registries, or imaging).
Excellent scientific writing and communication skills with evidence of peer-reviewed publications.
Prior experience with grant and manuscript preparation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with federated learning, explainable AI, and model fairness.

The Critical Technology Initiative at CMU is looking for a Post-Doctoral researcher to advance an analytic research program to inform innovative technical and policy solutions. As a researcher, you will work closely with students and faculty in the College of Engineering, the School of Computer Science, Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Tepper School of Business, other CMU Institutes and Centers across the United States to inform national strategy related to innovation. The research will use novel combinations and timely sources of data to understand the labor impacts of AI. The researcher will deploy an empirical approach to measure and better understand the relationship between business processes and technology adoption, and how these relationships might shape the consequences of AI technology transformation for the substitution or augmentation of workers. The researcher should have general expertise in technology; expertise in a specific technology field is not required.
The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. in science, engineering, or computer science, and analytics experience within industry or government, be able to support the research of students, staff and faculty conducting related research and leverage a wide range of empirics and modeling techniques to conduct research on real-world technology policy problems. The ideal candidate should also have demonstrated skills in working across disciplines.
Core Responsibilities:
Conduct research to inform policy on business practices and technology adoption that realize its multiple objectives (national security, economic prosperity and social welfare objectives).
Conduct integrative research with other CMU researchers and researchers at affiliated institutions
Support faculty in advising students.

Strong foundation in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Simulation, Reinforcement Learning
Ability to develop, train, and validate AI/CV/ML models
Experience in SOTA deep learning techniques, e.g. multi-modal foundational models
Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Track record of research excellence demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, or publications at top conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ICRA, IROS, etc.
Strong track-record of published research
Strong programming experience using python and pytorch
Prior software engineering or research experience in an internship, work experience, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
