Department Overview
Our Experience Design & Research team is a multidisciplinary group of UX/CX Designers, User Researchers, and Behavioural Scientists. We're at the forefront of understanding users, shaping evidence-based experiences, and translating insights into impactful products.
As the team expands its measurement and evaluative research capabilities, we are seeking a Senior UX Researcher with a strong mixed-methods (with a quant emphasis) background to establish best practices, deliver impactful insights, and raise research maturity across our portfolio
Job Description
This is a unique opportunity to lead evaluative and measurement-focused UX research within mission-critical environments. You will design and execute studies that demonstrate the impact of research on product, design, and business outcomes, while shaping how behavioral insights inform strategy.
What You'll Do
* Establish a UX Metrics Practice: Define, implement, and own the key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for user experience. This includes establishing frameworks for measuring usability, satisfaction (e.g., SUS, CSAT), and task success.
* Lead Quantitative Research: Design, launch, and analyze large-scale quantitative research studies, including surveys, A/B tests, and behavioral data analysis from product analytics platforms.
* Champion Qualitative Rigor: Lead and execute foundational and evaluative qualitative research, including in-depth interviews, contextual inquiries, and usability testing.
* Synthesize and Triangulate: Masterfully weave together quantitative and qualitative data to create a holistic, comprehensive understanding of our users. You will be responsible for telling the full story, connecting the "what" from analytics with the "why" from qualitative insights.
* Strategic Influence: Translate research findings into actionable, strategic recommendations that directly inform product roadmaps, design decisions, and business strategy.
* Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with leaders in Product Management, Design, Engineering, and Data Science to identify research needs, align on priorities, and drive user-centered outcomes.
* Mentorship & Advocacy: Act as a thought leader and mentor for UX research within the company. Educate and empower team members to apply research best practices and develop a deeper appreciation for both quantitative and qualitative methods.
* Communication & Storytelling: Create and deliver compelling presentations and reports that bring user stories and data to life for a variety of audiences, from individual contributors to the executive leadership team.
What We're Looking For
* Experience: 6+ years of hands-on experience conducting research in large matrixed organizations and complex product structures, with at least 2 years of experience managing junior to mid-level researchers.
* Education: Masters Degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Sociology, Statistics, or a related field.
* Scaling Metrics and Driving Change: Expert at establishing and scaling a company-wide metrics practice. You have a clear history of leveraging experience metrics to define product success and deliver measurable, user-centric improvements.
* Quantifying Research ROI: Proven expertise in defining and tracking the business impact of a UX Research team. You consistently link changes in user metrics (behavior, satisfaction) directly to measurable financial or strategic returns, making the value of research undeniable.
* Technical Expertise: Expert in utilizing both behavioral and attitudinal data to extract insights. Proficient in experimental design, survey methodology, and advanced statistical analysis. Expert with tools like Pendo and Qualtrics . Experience with data manipulation (SQL, Python) or statistical software (R, SPSS) is a plus.
* In-Person Research Expertise: Proven experience planning, recruiting for, and conducting a range of in-person research, including ethnographic-style fieldwork, contextual inquiries in users' natural environments, and on-site usability testing.
* Mixed-Methods Portfolio: A portfolio of work that showcases your ability to integrate diverse data sources to answer complex research questions and drive impact.
* Strategic Thinker & Self Starter: You don't just answer the questions you're given; you identify the right questions to ask to move the business forward. You are a self-starter with a proven record of launching initiatives independently and with minimal supervision
* Iterative Approach: Proven experience in planning and executing iterative, rapid-cycle research that is seamlessly integrated into the product development process, informing design and engineering decisions.
* Strategic Road mapping: Leverage an understanding of MSI's strategic vision and market trends to develop a research roadmap that not only aligns with but actively shapes and drives product goals and priorities.
* Exceptional Communicator: You are a gifted storyteller who can distill complex information into clear, concise, and persuasive narratives for any audience.

Within the various clinical roles, the postdoctoral fellow will learn about the larger system of care in Virginia, and may collaborate with team members for appropriate aftercare planning as patients return to the community. In addition to serving in clinical roles, incumbent has the opportunity to participate in research efforts throughout the hospital.
The ESH postdoctoral training program will also include didactic and case law seminars; weekly seminars focusing on various forensic issues - violence risk assessment, assessment of malingering, ethical considerations, psychology in the courtroom, insanity, competence to stand trial, and an overview of the legal system.
