The department is comprised of over 60 faculty members specializing in condensed matter, nuclear, high-energy, atomic, bio-, and astrophysics.
Responsibilities
FSU is seeking candidates for an Assistant in Research position to work with the cryogenics and superconducting linear accelerator at the John D. Fox accelerator laboratory.
The ideal candidate is an individual who likes mastering multiple components of a unique accelerator facility, performing complex technical procedures in set up, maintenance and new developments. On-the-job training will be provided.
The specific responsibilities for this position include operating the liquid-Helium (LHE) refrigerator facility including optimization of Helium production, monitoring and correcting alarm conditions as well as performing maintenance of the superconducting linear accelerator systems.
The cryogenic facility will undergo significant upgrades in the coming years, including the installation of a helium recovery system and a new turbine LHE refrigerator. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in these upgrades and have the opportunity to develop one-of-a-kind solutions with leading-edge cryogenic systems and accelerators.
Qualifications
Academic master's degree or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in Experimental Physics, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and demonstrated ability to perform required duties.

A typical day in this position includes:

**Research Faculty - 36 T SCH Solid-State NMR** The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL), which is located in Tallahassee, Florida, has an opening for a **Research Faculty** position with expertise in solid-state NMR. The primary responsibilities are (i) developing a research and collaborative user program utilizing the 36 Tesla Series-Connected-Hybrid (36 T SCH), a 12 MW powered magnet supporting sub-ppm NMR at 1.5 GHz and (ii) recruiting and working with users on other high-field solid-state NMR instruments (*vide infra*). The 36 T SCH magnet, which is equipped with a custom-made Bruker NEO console, unique field regulation system, and a suite of MAS and oriented sample solid-state NMR probes developed at the NHMFL, provides the highest magnetic field available today capable of high-resolution solid-state NMR of biosolids, chemical compounds, and materials [*J. Magn. Reson.* **2017***,* *284*, 125-136]. The Research Faculty will work with a team of engineers and scientists and be responsible for: (1) advancing a research program focused on the development and application of high-field SSNMR techniques for both quadrupolar and spin-1/2 nuclei utilizing the high-field magnets at the NHMFL; (2) administering the 36 T SCH User Program, which includes NMR system management, project initiation, planning, and execution with users; and (3) working with the Director of the NMR/MRI User Program on key research projects, supporting the DNP User Program, overseeing user recruitment, and planning research activities across most of our high-field NMR instruments. This Research Faculty is expected to be a motivated researcher and team player with excellent communication skills, a collegial personality, and the vision to become a world-class researcher. The projected earliest starting date for this position is **January 7, 2025**.
The NHMFL's NMR/MRI User Program operates a state-of-the-art user facility that conducts research at the frontiers of physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science with unique magnet technologies. It has an outstanding infrastructure with 13 NMR spectrometers (including ultra-widebore 900 MHz, 850 MHz, 2 × 800 MHz, 600 MHz DNP, 3 × 600 MHz and several other lower field instruments). The candidate will have support from a team of engineers and scientists (for the 36 T SCH, in particular) and opportunities to collaborate with users from around the U.S. and international community, to apply for grants, to pursue individual research objectives, to publish their work, and to participate in national and international organizations and conferences.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Physics, or Materials Science with research experience focused on solid-state NMR. Candidates should have excellent experimental NMR skills including spectrometer operations, data processing, and pulse-sequence development and implementation, as well as being knowledgeable with regard to NMR instrumentation and probe hardware. A candidate with expertise in quantum chemical computations is also highly sought after. Department The NHMFL is an NSF-funded user facility that operates the world's most powerful electromagnets at Florida State University, the Univ. of Florida and Los Alamos National Lab including a 45 T dc magnet and a 35.2 T (1.5 GHz) NMR magnet. Present projects include development of a 40 T all-superconducting magnet. Our long-term plan includes development of 30 T NMR magnets, neutron scattering magnets, and resistive-superconducting hybrid magnets up to 60 T. The Magnet Science and Technology Division of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) is seeking an exceptional individual for a Research Analyst position for magnet design and system analysis. Position level will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
This position will primarily involve structural mechanics, but also electromagnetic, and thermal analysis with system design in the future as new projects develop. The incumbent will be organizing and carrying out work that includes numerical simulation (ANSYS, COMSOL, C++, or similar), among other tasks like providing studies and reports. The incumbent will play a strong contributing role in the development of next generation high-field magnet systems. Presenting results in international conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals is expected. Preparation of reports and technical papers is required.
Qualifications
Qualifications include a Ph.D. or masters with thee plus years of experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Applied Mathematics, or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience with a demonstrated record of achievement in research. We are seeking candidates who are highly motivated and eager to work flexibly and creatively in a cross-disciplinary team environment. Good communications skills are required.
