Our focus is supporting individuals by ways of residential housing, mental health and clinical services, and immersing our participants in community engagement. Working closely with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and the Office of Mental Health, we support 27 housing locations and 3 administrative buildings.

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive employee to provide needed ongoing supervision and support for persons who receive services in the community residence program.

Responsibilities include:

• Assessing, teaching and evaluation of various skills of daily living that will enhance the independence and community integration of persons who receive program services
• Fostering an atmosphere in which skill teaching and role modeling occurs
• Responding to crisis situations using good judgment in accordance with Agency guidelines and programmatic considerations
• Maintaining physical property of residential program in a manner that enhances the health and safety of persons who receive program services

Education & Experience

High school diploma/GED required. Experience in supporting parents and families in the parenting role, including parent training and referrals to appropriate community resources.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent verbal communication skills required.

Conditions of Employment

Must possess a valid driver’s license and transportation necessary for meet program needs. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. May be subjected to outdoor conditions including extremely cold, hot and wet weather.

Under direction of the Program Manger, the CRC provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu within the scope of defined practice. Successful candidate will provide direct patient care through group and individual counseling in accordance with current treatment plan. Establishes relationships with patients that are helpful and maintains professional boundaries. Intervenes in managing complex patient situations. Participates in leading and co-leading patient groups. Provides and supervises community activities according to needs. Provides patients with direction and supervision as needed. Communicates information regarding patient milieu/therapeutic environment to appropriate staff in a timely manner.

Exact salaries are calculated when a job offer is to be made and are based on a candidate's experience and qualifications. Employees in this position are eligible for shift differentials.

* High School Diploma or GED Required.
* Bachelors degree preferred.
* Requires verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work in collaboration with others.
* No experience required.
* One year patient care or related experience preferred, preferably in a psychiatric setting.
* Driver's license (MA, CT, NH, NY, RI, VT) preferred (varies by program), and ability to satisfactorily meet hospital driving standards.
* Required to complete electronic medical records training and demonstrate 80% accuracy on competency test within 30 days of hire.
* All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
* For those unit to which it applies; Must have Medication Administration Program Certification, or successfully complete the Medication Administration Certification course provided by the Hospital. - Applicants who are not currently MAP(Medication Administration Program) certified will have a specified time period from the date of hire, to successfully complete a McLean sponsored MAP certification program.
* Where MAP is required Color Blind Testing is a condition of employment for employees hired after 5/24/2019

The Guidance Center ~ is a primary mental health support agency, providing compassionate, professional care for individuals and families with mental health needs in the greater Cumberland County, NJ area. For more than 50 years, our non-profit organization of professionals, doctors, nurses, therapists, and support staff, has assisted the community in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of mental illness.

What does this position look like ~ A Residence Counselor maintains progress and activities records. Develops and implements social, recreational and educational activities for clients. Communicates observations and information about the client to the treatment team. Accompanies and provides transportation for clients to community resources. Provides on-site services and support.

What you need to apply ~

Education and/or experience equal to one of the following:

• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health related field, or
• A licensed registered nurse, or
• A combination of one or more years of college, plus related work or life experience together equaling four years, or
• A licensed practical nurse plus two years or related work or life experience, or
• A High School diploma or the equivalent, plus four years of related work or life experience
• Knowledge of community resources and agencies.
• Valid automobile driver's license with MVR which meets agency standards.
