Department: The Department of Resident Life serves a highly diverse population of approximately 12,000 undergraduate students living in traditional residence halls, apartments, and suites including some public/private partnership properties. About 46% of all resident students are enrolled in ten living-learning programs covering a wide array of academic areas. Resident Life employs a diverse workforce of over 95 full-time and graduate staff members and about 400 undergraduate student staff members. The Department actively seeks candidates who can represent and serve the diversity of persons who live and work in the University of Maryland's residence halls. The University of Maryland campus is located in the greater Washington, D.C. metro area just eight miles from downtown D.C. and 30 miles from Baltimore, MD. Position: The Resident Director (RD) is a live-on, full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week in the office and evening activities. The Resident Director is responsible for planning, organizing and directing community development, staffing functions, student conduct processes, and administrative details for up to 700 residents in one or more residence halls. The RD directly supervises a highly diverse undergraduate, part-time paraprofessional staff of 8-16 Resident Assistants (RAs). Most RDs advise a hall or area council. The RD is entrusted to guide the development of students and connect classroom learning to a residence hall setting. RDs participate in the Resident Director overnight duty rotation and respond to a variety of complex and/or emergency situations after business hours.
Conditions of Employment

* The Resident Director is a 12-month, live-in position.
* Although the position requires approximately 40 hours per week, the nature of the position, at times, necessitates unpredictable workweeks including nights and weekends. Some weeks requiring more than 40 hours.
* The nature of the position requires that the Resident Director live on campus in a furnished, assigned apartment located within the hall/area of responsibility.
* The Resident Director position is provided the same holidays as other full-time Department of Resident Life community staff. Exceptions to this schedule may be made upon the mutual agreement between the Resident Director and their Community Director.
* Resident Directors rotate in the after business hours duty system by side of campus during the academic year. Resident Directors will be required to rotate into the duty system during all break periods, including holidays and summer. Resident Directors must remain within a certain distance of campus while on duty.
* This position is listed as an essential employee and may be asked to report for work during periods when the university is closed.
* We are unable to sponsor an employment visa for this position.

Benefits include tuition remission, retirement programs, and health insurance. Resident Directors are provided 22 days of annual leave, 14-15 paid holidays, 15 days of sick leave and 3 days of personal leave each year. This is a twelve-month, live-in position. The Resident Care Director:

  • Responsible for the management and supervision of care services to Assisted Living residents in the Community.

Regis College residence director job description

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life, the Graduate Residence Director (GRD) will work with the Office of Residence Life to support the growth of Regis College Students through engagement and community building efforts in the residence halls. The Graduate Residence Director is a 12-month, 30-hour per week staff position that works to ensure a quality living environment conducive to the personal, social, and academic development of each residential student. This position contributes to the overall learning of the GRD in their professional and academic development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Supervises 4-6 Resident Assistants (RA).
Provide leadership and direction in a co-educational residence hall with approximately 125-180 undergraduate and graduate residents. They will employ creative measures to create a sense of community and engagement within the hall.
Responsible for policy enforcement, counseling/referral, programming, community building, participation in central office functions, and general building administration/ facilities management.
Work with the Associate Dean of Students and serve as a conduct officer in adjudicating cases for the communities they oversee
Serve in the professional on-call rotation system for a campus of 5 residence halls and 750 undergraduate and graduate residents.
Assist in the central office operational functions of the department including opening, closing, housing selection, and room changes.
Implement area programming in accordance with departmental programming model through Resident Assistant staff; and manage area budget
Assist with collaborative efforts within the division including but not limited to housing selection, themed-week programming, Tunnel of Oppression, Christmas Tree Lighting, Student Leader selection, and mission-driven university events

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Directly supervise an RA staff of 4-6 students; plus, participation in all staff trainings (paraprofessional and professional).

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as a liaison between multiple campus offices
The GRD may be assigned special projects which may include operations, summer resident housing, summer groups, etc. This is at the discretion of the Director of Residence Life or the Associate Dean of Students.
As staffing numbers fluctuate among the graduate or full time Residence Director team, the GRD may be assigned additional responsibilities including increases to staff supervision, additional building oversight, community needs, etc. This will be an interim measure until the staffing vacancies are filled. This is at the discretion of the Director of Residence Life or the Associate Dean of Students.
Performs other related duties as required

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

BA required, enrollment in graduate program required
Previous residential and programming experience is highly recommended
Excellent intrapersonal, organizational, and administrative skills.

SALARY & BENEFITS

$6,000 stipend (divided over 12-month)
