There are certain skills that many residence supervisors have in order to accomplish their responsibilities. If you're interested in becoming a residence supervisor, one of the first things to consider is how much education you need. We've determined that 50.3% of residence supervisors have a bachelor's degree. In terms of higher education levels, we found that 7.9% of residence supervisors have master's degrees. Even though most residence supervisors have a college degree, it's possible to become one with only a high school degree or GED.
As you move along in your career, you may start taking on more responsibilities or notice that you've taken on a leadership role. As a residence director, you'll most likely live in the hall and be very familiar with the environment. You'll need to have good relationships with the students because the job involves a great deal of communication. Great relationships with other faculty staff are also crucial because implementing programs and schemes requires a team effort.
To become a residence director, you need a bachelor's degree and relevant work experience. Employers have unique requirements when hiring for residence directors. For example, some residence doctors are required to pass a criminal background check and possess emergency skill like CPR.
A supervisor of communications oversees both internal and external communications of a company. He/She or she works toward ensuring a consistent and attractive message is put out about the company's products or services, preparing press releases and marketing materials.
Working in this role, you will lead the communications department, approve media content, follow up on media reports, and devise communication strategies that find the right channels to engage the target audience successfully. You will be responsible for creating exposure and media opportunities as well as creating content.
A bachelor's in communication or a related field is usually required when applying for this position. You will need several years of experience on the job, a good amount of leadership skills, and excellent verbal and written communication competencies.

Some places are better than others when it comes to starting a career as a residence supervisor. The best states for people in this position are Washington, New Mexico, California, and New Jersey. Residence supervisors make the most in Washington with an average salary of $48,904. Whereas in New Mexico and California, they would average $48,328 and $47,351, respectively. While residence supervisors would only make an average of $46,936 in New Jersey, you would still make more there than in the rest of the country. We determined these as the best states based on job availability and pay. By finding the median salary, cost of living, and using the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Location Quotient, we narrowed down our list of states to these four.
