Full-time Description
Miriam's Kitchen works to end chronic homelessness in Washington, DC. We advocate for permanent supportive housing as a long-term solution, while meeting short-term needs by providing healthy meals and high-quality social services to individuals who are chronically homeless.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Bridge Housing program is a new non-congregate bridge housing program, which opened September 2025. Bridge Housing's primary goal is to help residents exit to permanent housing within 3-6 months. Bridge Housing will serve up to 190 residents at full capacity. Bridge Housing is open 24/7 and residents primarily stay in semi-private, dormitory style rooms. Bridge Housing will serve adults of all genders. Target populations will include individuals who are currently matched to a permanent housing resource and individuals who can't be served well by existing low-barrier shelters. Residents need to be referred through city systems.
The Resident Assistant serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team that advocates for and support residents of E Street. The Resident Assistant is an essential staff role ensuring the safety of the building, enforcing program rules, serving as a part of the emergency response team, and communicating with case managers to ensure that clients are receiving the case management services that they need.
We are currently hiring for (5) positions with the following shifts:
(1) Tuesday - Saturday, 7am - 3pm
(1) Tuesday - Saturday, 3pm - 11pm
(2) Tuesday - Saturday, 11pm - 7am
(1) Sunday - Thursday, 3pm - 11pm
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop a positive rapport with each resident through routine contact and communication.
· Provide roving coverage throughout the facility.
· Provides support and assistance by completing care coordination tasks such as completing referrals for services and residency forms
· Assist in the implementation of case plans and document the client interactions in HMIS
· Immediately report serious incidents, allegations, and sensitive program information to the Operations Manager
· Complete incident reports
· Work with case management team to ensure all required service delivery is documented and to identify strengths and weaknesses in data entry and quality
· Respond to immediate client needs, help de-escalate crisis situations, help resolve conflicts and enforce program rules
· Conduct room inspections per program rules to ensure cleanliness
· Participate in program team meetings, staff meetings, supervision meetings as required and requested per contracts
· Build and maintain quality working relationships with colleagues, external and internal stakeholders
· Participate in program quality improvement activities that improve program policies, procedures and client and program outcomes
· Atten all required trainings per contract requirements
· Adhere to agency policies and procedures
· Other duties as assigned

· Familiarity with the homeless services and housing landscape in Washington, DC.

The Floater Resident Assistant, Domestic Violence Services supports the programs of ACTS that make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in crisis. What you'll do
Essential Functions:

Conduct entry process in accordance with shelter procedures and work with specialists and case managers when receiving clients into the shelter. Orient new residents by conducting a RA intake and reviewing shelter rules, chores, giving a tour of the shelter, and ensuring they have basic personal care items and any other necessities.
Assist residents with daily needs such as medication, baby care items, personal care items, and food from locked areas of the kitchen, coordinate cab services when needed, conduct room checks at the beginning of every shift and house checks several times throughout your shift. Oversee the shelter's daily activities, motivate clients to complete all chores, enforce house rules.
Prepare and monitor the chore chart. Ensure chores are assigned and completed and issue warnings when necessary.
Work with Specialists and Case managers when entering clients into the shelter.
Assist case managers with small tasks to help clients meet their goals and end the cycle of violence.
Assist residents in the planning of meals and preparing/cooking meals for all house residents, when needed. Organize, sort, put away, and distribute donations.
Conduct exit process in accordance with shelter procedures.
Report to the Shelter Supervisor and/or Director when repairs are needed or equipment needs to be replaced.
Be a part of and abide by the limitations of the shelter on call schedule. Flexibility is required.
Complete mandatory CPR, First Aid, Airborne and Blood borne pathogens, Domestic Violence, NARCAN, and food handling training (to be provided by ACTS).
Actively participates in supervision, attends staff meetings, community meetings, training and other organizational activities as required.

Position Summary

Primary Responsibilities
The communications assistant:
Maintains and updates the Center's outreach database, including systematic review of media contacts to ensure relevant outreach.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Student Life Program Manager, the Resident Advisor actively manages a designated student house and supervises students during the morning, afternoon, and evening Student Life Program hours. This critical role focuses on creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment conducive to student learning and growth, serving as a role model by guiding and teaching essential social, self-help, and life-long learning skills, and supporting academic achievement within the residential setting. Campus residency is required to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of managing this unique 24-hour residential school setting.

(students placed on probation by the University and/or Residential Life will be terminated).
Administrative Responsibilities
Perform all shift responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Perform receptionist duties (interpersonal, telephone)
Conduct key audits (for lockout keys, unreturned keys, etc)
Forward voicemail and/or email communications to the appropriate staff member
Receive and distribute packages to residents (utilizing notice and sign-out methods)
Receive rental payments (using designated methods)
Observe closing instructions at end of shifts
Assist with license signing processes (and related documentation)
Submit work orders via the Resident Portal
Instruct residents on how to utilize the Resident Portal
Maintain and utilize company provided payroll software to clock-in at the beginning of shifts and clock-out at end of shifts
Be present for Check- in(s) at the beginnings of license periods (June, August, January) and perform related duties accordingly
Ensure that necessary forms and reports are completed accurately and submitted on time
Perform any additional functions as assigned by their supervisor
Time Commitment
Participate in all staff meetings
Evening and weekend shifts are required; weekday 9:00-5:00pm shifts are not guaranteed
Attend all shifts as scheduled, or arrange for a reliable shift replacement
Hours are available during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Breaks
Special Projects
Filing of resident files (past and present)
Filing of invoices
Correspondences (collating letters, stuffing envelopes, labeling envelopes); delivery in person or via the campus mailbox
Posting of fliers and signage
Room inspections during ‘turn' periods
Other initiatives as needs are identified
Community Safety
Report unusual activity to UMBC Campus Police
Contact the RA on duty if a student requests to
Understand how to interpret the Professional Duty schedule for Walker and whom to contact
Observe and report safety concerns to the appropriate resource
Closely monitor office key(s) and never loan keys to anyone
Prevent non-employee access beyond the reception desk unless escorted by a professional staff member
Always secure identification and/or payments
Always ensure the electronic key box is closed (never give out access code)
For unexpected weather closings, may be asked to work during business hours to support operations
Compensation
Hourly wage is $15.00 per hour Number of hours worked per week is determined by supervisor, and may fluctuate according to needs of the site (i.e. openings, closings, 'turn' periods, license signing, etc).
Dress Code
Attire appropriate to an office setting or staff uniform must be worn at all times during work shifts.

High school diploma.
Enrolled as a current University of Maryland Baltimore County student in good academic standing at the time of application and throughout employment term.
Ability to lift up to 30lbs and navigate up and down stairs.
Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication.
Possess strong customer service skills.
Be comfortable working in Excel, Microsoft Word, and other office programs as necessary.
Professional and courteous in dealing with residents.
