This list is by no means complete -- common sense, initiative, and professional Residential Life staff will dictate other expectations. * Show an active interest in your job. The RA job should be your number one priority and commitment after your academics. * Have a spirit that is hungry to engage, humble in attitude, and people smart in communication. * Work constantly to improve your job performance and areas of responsibility. * Be pleasant, polite, courteous, and cooperative with fellow workers, supervisors, and the residents. * Be punctual and professional in all employment responsibilities. * Know and comply with the rules and regulations of Residential Life, The College, and the State of Minnesota. While programs are an important part of the RA role, more emphasis is placed on the value of relationship building, creating a strong community where the RA serves. * Organize and implement regular active, passive, educational, and social programs and bulletin boards for residents in your community while also supporting campus events, encouraging participation, and attending various functions. Additional Returning RA Job Responsibilities * Serve as a mentor for first year RAs. * May be asked to lead training sessions in the fall / winter to share experience, knowledge and understanding of the RA position. * Assist the Residential Life professional staff as needed. At the end of the academic year, RAs will be released from contract on the Tuesday following Commencement, unless otherwise communicated. * Attend all professional development and training sessions (these take priority over all commitments except mandatory academic commitments. Prior approval to miss an RA work related task/function, even for academic related conflicts must be communicated in advance): * Weekly 1.5 hour weeknight RA staff meeting held sometime in the window of 5pm-9pm based on academic schedules. * Individual bi-weekly supervision meetings with Residential Life professional staff (approximately one-half hour) * Participating in the Residential Life volunteer activity during the Fall and Spring Community Days * Additional important dates will be communicated. This employment term starts approximately 7 - 10 days before the Fall semester and ends the Tuesday following Spring graduation. * Extracurricular activities are encouraged, but prior to any participation in a sport, club, etc., a conversation must be had with a supervisor. Any performance concerns will warrant a conversation with a supervisor to determine participation in any given extracurricular activity. These must be shared during the interview process and then again upon accepting the job offer. * If an RA has a conflict with one of the mandatory important dates, they must communicate that with their supervisor in advance. Communicating does not mean the RA will be excused from the important date. Extenuating circumstances will be considered and discussed by the Residential Life team. Approval to miss an important date is not final until the RA receives it in writing. * RAs are allowed to work up to five hours per week in other on-campus jobs. This must be communicated with a supervisor before beginning employment. * All RAs are required to fill out a housing contract prior to submitting their application and are responsible for adhering to the contract for the entirety of the academic year. * RAs who are removed or resign from their position are still held to honoring the conditions in their housing contract financially at the designated rate, and are responsible for the remainder of the housing cost.
