MHS is seeking two part-time Program Assistants for the School's Horticultural Center, Greenhouses, and gardens. These assistants will support the full-time Horticulture Coordinator by strengthening the MHS Horticulture Center's instructional programs and operational excellence. Each assistant will bring specialized abilities: one focused on floral design and arrangement skills, and the other on houseplant care and propagation techniques. These competencies will enhance experiential learning opportunities for students, ensuring they gain practical, industry-relevant skills aligned with the School's Agricultural and Environmental Education (AEE) Program literacy standards.
The Center sustains high-quality horticultural practices, improves integration of hands-on learning into classroom instruction, and proactively expands program offerings. In collaboration with the coordinator, these roles will contribute to program management, activity oversight, and student engagement, guaranteeing authentic, real-world experiences that prepare students for success in horticulture and related fields.
Work schedule: Monday-Friday, including some weekends and evenings, up to 29 hours per week. Starting pay is in the range of $22.33 - $29.81/hour, pay is determined based on experience. This is an on-site position located in Hershey, PA.
Key responsibilities:
* Supporting the Instructional Advisors at the Horticultural Center to provide engaging, authentic, hands-on educational experiences in the horticultural center which includes greenhouses, hydroponics, and outdoor gardens.
* Facilitating educational and inspiring after-school clubs and other horticultural activities and programs.
* Supporting operational functions that ensure the greenhouses and gardens are healthy, well maintained, and annually productive with products students can plant, nurture, harvest, and sell.
* Utilizing greenhouse mechanical systems.
* Assist with greenhouse and outdoor garden management (cultivar selection, scheduling, crop management, harvesting).
* Assist with integrated pest management systems, as well as fungicide and pesticide applications.
* High School diploma or GED. Degree in horticulture or agriculture recommended.
* Demonstrated success in ensuring healthy and productive greenhouse crops and gardens.
* Knowledge of greenhouse and gardening management is preferred.
* Knowledge of integrated pest management systems, as well as fungicide and pesticide application. PA Pesticide Applicators license a plus.
* Demonstrated success with hydroponics preferred.
* Demonstrated success in providing youth with engaging agricultural or horticultural educational programming.
* Experience with diverse Pre-K -12 grade students from lower income backgrounds a plus.

* Facilitate summer Zoom sessions with assigned Momentum students to assist with completion of the New Blue Jay To-Do List and answer questions about the college transition process
* Move back to campus one week before classes begin to participate in Kinesis orientation and to plan and facilitate Momentum pre-orientation, which occurs two days before New Student Orientation
* Meet weekly with assigned Momentum students in order to provide individualized support, with a focus on academic advising and classroom success
* Build and maintain positive relationships with Momentum students
* Attend monthly Kinesis team meetings and monthly check-ins with the Director of Momentum
PEER MENTORS
Reports to the Director of New Student/Family Orientation
Additional Functions:
* Guide new students and their families through June new student orientation (NSO) and August NSO; facilitate sessions and answer questions
* Mentor students from assigned FYS throughout the first semester related to the College mission and values, including strengths-based leadership, service, and integrity
* Work with FYS faculty member to ensure students are supported; this includes regular meetings and communication during the fall semester
* Facilitate FYS Jay Chat sessions for peer students during the fall semester (Wednesdays at 11:00 am)
* Peer Mentors are expected to be on campus the week of June NSO for training and NSO (typically the last full week of June). In addition, peer mentors are expected to move back to campus one week before classes begin in August for training and NSO.
* Peer Mentors must be committed to creating a sense of belonging for our students; NSO is a crucial event for our new students, and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication from our peer mentors to make NSO a success.
UBUNTU MENTORS
Reports to the Director of Student Opportunity, Access, and Engagement
Additional Functions:
* Serve as trusted guides in helping first-year students navigate their transition to college.
* Engage in compassionate conversations that recognize students' diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
* Encourage self-advocacy and emotional well-being through active listening and affirming mentorship.
* Assist students in identifying ways to engage in leadership, advocacy, and service that align with their values.
* Provide support without assumption, affirming each student's right to share at their own pace while ensuring they have access to resources.
* Use a strengths-based approach, helping students see their resilience, potential, and contributions to the campus community.
RESIDENT ASSISTANT
Reports to: Residence Life Professional Staff
Additional Functions:
* Build community with residents in assigned residential community by planning events, connecting with individual students, creating bulletin boards, and addressing any concerns
* Facilitate floor meetings and the development of Community Standards for residents
* Ensure resident belonging and safety by engaging with residents and holding office hours from 8-10 pm, participating in on-call rotation for assigned community, mediating conflicts, conducting community rounds and health & safety walk-throughs
* Effectively complete administrative tasks, such as checking RA mailbox and email daily, hanging flyers, completing reports and documenting incidents
* Participate in opening and closing processes including assessing rooms and common spaces for concerns prior to start of each semester, following each semester and as required throughout the year
Required Qualifications

* Sophomore, junior, or senior
* Maintain full-time status as an undergraduate student at Elizabethtown College
* Remain in good academic and social standing
* Abide by Elizabethtown College policies and procedures as represented in the Student Handbook
* Demonstrated leadership experience
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities, as well as the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders
* Understanding of Etown campus resources and programs to support student belonging and success
* Strong commitment to creating an environment that supports all students in their transition, success, and connection at Etown

* Kinesis: must have participated in the Momentum program as a first-year student
