FUNCTIONS
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides nursing and nursing related services to residents consistent with each resident's comprehensive assessment and plan of care. The Certified Nursing Assistant maintains a homelike environment for the residents, protects and promotes resident rights, and assists the person to maintain independence and control to the greatest extent possible.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Assistsin activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, transferring, and feeding of assigned residents by providing set-up assistance, verbal prompts, physical support, or more extensive assistance.
Provides care in a manner that protects and promotes resident rights, dignity, privacy, confidentiality, self-determination and active participation. Offers and respects resident choices in matters of daily routine. Refers to residents by proper names unless resident requests otherwise. Avoids use of all pet names. Handles all resident property with respect.
Observes and immediately reports to Unit Charge Nurse, unusual occurrences, significant changes inresident's physical or behavioral condition, patterns of decreased social interaction, angry or sad behaviors, and refusals of treatment.
Washes hands before and after taking care of every resident. Cleans and stores equipment and personal care items. When caring for a resident, responsible for keeping the whole unit clean and in good order (includes making beds and cleaning mattresses).
Complies with the facility's privacy practices and procedures related to resident and employee records and all state/federal privacy laws as outlined by HIPAA.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of a state approved or a Nursing Assistant training and competency evaluation program, or a CNA competency evaluation program approved by the State.
Possesses current CNA certificate.
Acceptable verification of training and competency evaluation from State Nurse Assistant Registry and no fining in the Registry concerning abuse, neglect, mistreatment of residents, or misappropriation of resident's property.
Ability to recognize changes inresident's conditions evidenced by physical symptoms, verbal expression, or observation of change in mental/psychosocial status.
Ability to coordinate numerous activities at any given time and make rational, sound judgements and judicious decisions quickly, often under pressure.

Assesses resident care, current status, significant changes, and behavior.
Makes frequent rounds, visiting residents at least twice a day to monitor resident condition and responses to treatment.
Assures that goals and approaches from resident care plan are conveyed to and implemented by the nursing staff.
Observes direct care administered by staff ensuring safe, effective care is given in a timely manner as well as completion of other assigned duties.
Audits documentation of medical records on a routine basis and reports findings to the DON.
Monitors nursing discipline assignments to ensure completed resident assignments, plus additional duties as indicated.
Observes staff adherence to resident rights policies.
Assists with improving quality measures such as fall prevention, nutrition, weight loss, pain, skin/pressure areas, wound care, readmissions, etc…
Participates in QAPI/PIPs as assigned; provides reports and data as required.
C. Development
Participates in the development of efficient practices, processes, and systems within the Nursing Team.
Assistsin the orientation of new staff.

Key Responsibilities
