Area of Specialization: Anatomic Pathology Anticipated Appointment Date: July 1, 2025 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This post-DVM training program will prepare the candidate to successfully complete the certifying examinations of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. This residency is a three-year position which is renewable on an annual basis assuming satisfactory performance. Residents work closely with 6 board certified anatomic pathologists and 2 board certified clinical pathologists. Training includes performing animal autopsies, reading surgical biopsies, and teaching veterinary students in both didactic and clinical settings. The caseload is diverse, and diagnostic investigation is strongly supported as are resident publications. The program has a partnership with the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies located on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, so there is potential to work with marine mammals if the candidate is interested. There is also a digital slide scanner based at the MS Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory in Pearl, MS, through which residents will be exposed to digital pathology. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a DVM degree and the ability to attain licensure in Mississippi. Mississippi licensure requires having successfully passed the NAVLE exam. For students that have not attended an AVMA accredited veterinary school, successful completion of the PAVE program (Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence) or the ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) certification program is required.
