A Resident Monitor also provides control and documentation of transactions regarding all money, subsistence, medications, first-aid supplies, mail, visitors, accountability checks, and telephone calls. * Assists with managing program services - Assists and supports Counselors with resident programming that may include but not be limited to installing electronic monitoring equipment, visiting residents in their homes and places of employment, and providing alcohol and urine surveillance testing. * Monitors Facility - Conducts and documents scheduled internal and external inspections of the premises to maintain the residents' health, safety, and accountability. Ensures physical plant safety/sanitation standards are maintained. * Maintains Working Knowledge and follows all Procedures and Policies - Outlined in the Statement of Work, Physical Plant, and Operations Manuals. Proficiency in knowledge and operations of emergency drills, life safety, facility sanitation, escapes, and unusual occurrence procedures. * Work Schedule - In the event of a work stoppage, work the hours necessary to staff the center. Will accept reassigned shifts without advanced notice. Attend and participate in all required appointments/meetings. Some meetings/appointments may be scheduled off-site. * Sanitation - Responsible for general housekeeping of the center, including dusting, polishing, vacuuming, and emptying trash. * Other - Additional duties may be assigned by the Director. Area of Specialization: Large Animal Internal Medicine Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities include service in the Animal Heath Center under the supervision of four ACVIM diplomates. The resident will spend approximately 75% in food Animal and 25% time in equine. This position also includes emergency duty for in-house patients and ambulatory (field) emergency for farm animals and horses. The resident will oversee veterinary students in case management. The ideal candidate will have a passion for clinical service. The caseload is a blend of primary care and referral cases, largely composed of beef cattle and small ruminants. The equine caseload is largely western pleasure and performance. Building plans for a new food animal hospital and outpatient facility are being finalized. This facility will enhance animal flow and will allow outpatient and inpatient services to be conducted simultaneously. It will also serve as a base for the Center for Rural Veterinary Practice with space for student teaching laboratories and learning. Area of Specialization: Pathobiology Population Medicine Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This post-DVM training program will prepare the candidate to successfully complete the certifying examinations of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. This residency is a three-year position which is renewable on an annual basis assuming satisfactory performance. Residents work closely with 5 board certified anatomic pathologists and 2 board certified clinical pathologists. Training includes performing animal autopsies, reading surgical biopsies, and teaching veterinary students in both didactic and clinical settings. The caseload is diverse with a notable domestic and farm animal percentage. Diagnostic investigation is strongly supported as are resident publications. The program has a partnership with the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies located on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, so there is potential to do some work with marine mammals if the candidate is interested. There is a digital slide scanner based at the MS Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory in Pearl, MS, with preparations for a second digital slide scanner to be housed at the CVM. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a DVM degree and the ability to attain licensure in Mississippi. Mississippi licensure requires having successfully passed the NAVLE exam. For students that have not attended an AVMA accredited veterinary school, successful completion of the PAVE program (Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence) or the ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) certification program is required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service. Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
