Position Summary:
The Resident Assistant (RA) is an undergraduate student selected to be a key member of the Residential Living team. Living with a group of 25-60 residents, the RA plays a vital role in guiding students through their campus experience. As a leader, mentor, and role model, the RA demonstrates compassion and commitment to each resident's health, safety, and well-being. The RA position focuses on peer mentoring and enhancing the residential community by fostering a sense of belonging, providing academic support, and ensuring the safety of all residents. Success in this role requires adaptability, strong interpersonal skills, good time management and the ability to complete administrative duties. RA's are integral in creating an environment that encourages student and community growth and development.

Essential Functions:
-Facilitate a supportive environment for social connections, academic success, personal development, and well-being support for all residents through implementation of the Residential Engagement Model (REM) that includes door decorations, meaningful interactions, passive programming, monthly newsletters, floor gatherings, and building-wide programming, etc.
-Address and report residential living and student conduct violations as well as health and safety violations in a timely manner.
-Participate in weekday night duty, weekend duty, and break duties; complete round reports.
-Be a role model and mentor in all aspects of the campus life and help connect residents to other campus opportunities and resources.
-Participate in the opening and closing of the buildings each semester transition (fall opening and closing, fall break/Thanksgiving break, spring opening and closing, Spring break) including hosting mandatory hall meetings.
-Serve as a representative of, and liaison between the Residential Living Office and residents.
-Communicate with residents and professional staff clearly and in a timely manner.
-Check residents in and out as needed throughout the semester.
-Attend mandatory Fall Resident Assistant training in August and Spring Resident Assistant training in January.
-Attend all weekly Resident Assistant staff meetings on Sunday nights from 6pm - 8pm.

Non-Essential Functions:
-May be asked to complete projects and assignments as directed by supervisor.
- A private double room and full meal plan are provided based on the residence hall/building which the RA is assigned. Additionally, a stipend totaling $1,575 - $1,785 for fall and spring semesters distributed in 21 pay periods bi-weekly.
Required Qualifications:
-Maintain a required minimum 2.75 semester and cumulative GPA.
-Time commitments, either on or off campus (outside of Academics and the Resident Assistant position) must be below 15 hours/week or approved by the Resident Assistant's supervisor.
-Must be enrolled in no less than 12 credit hours and no more than 18 credit hours during both the fall and spring semesters at Washburn University.

Perform a variety of housing assignment, customer service and student activity functions in support of the Director and Coordinator and Residence Life. Enrollment Requirements
Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium is offering a three (3) year, 36-month Veterinary Residency in Zoological Medicine, Anesthesiology and Surgery. This program is a three-year post-doctoral clinical residency designed to prepare trainees for ACZM specialty board certification through an experiential pathway. It is not a participant in the Veterinary Internship and Residency Match Program.
The selected candidate will join the veterinary health team, which includes an ACZM-boarded veterinarian, two associate veterinarians, six registered veterinary technicians, a medical records manager, and an animal care specialist. The team operates two veterinary hospitals, caring for 10,000 animals across 202 developed acres in Swope Park, Kansas City, Missouri.
The position begins on or around July 1, 2026, pending 2025 year-end budget approval by the Friends of the Zoo Board of Directors. This is a paid full-time position with some on-call requirements, teaching duties and mentorship of veterinary preceptors, RVT interns, Anesthesiology and Zoological Medicine interns and dental hygiene practicum students. Candidates must possess a DVM from an AVMA accredited School or College of Veterinary Medicine and State Veterinary licensure. Veterinarians with at least one-year of experience with zoological species or academic internship are desired. First-author, peer reviewed publications are an advantage. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of the Director of Veterinary Health & Conservation Research, the Veterinary Resident directly participates in the daily medical and surgical care of the animals housed at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, in accordance with the Zoo & Aquarium's program of veterinary care. POSITION DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The first year of the residency program is designed to equip trainees with a comprehensive foundation in natural history, organizational zoo medicine, and clinical experience. Residents will develop essential surgical and technical skills, case management abilities, and veterinary knowledge specific to zoological species. The curriculum includes hands-on experience in necropsy, medical rounds, and participation in conservation research. Additionally, the resident will mentor rotating Anesthesiology & Zoological Medicine Interns from the UMC College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Preceptors, RVT Interns, and Dental Hygiene practicum students. There will also be opportunities to teach as part of the Zoological Medicine elective at UMC. The resident will have the chance to refine skills in scientific publication and presentation. Continuing education opportunities will be provided through attendance at exotic animal conferences. This position will provide supervision of direct care staff and provide care, custody, and security for at-risk youth at Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are involved in providing direct care, supervision and security, transportation, and role modeling to adjudicated youth in the custody of the juvenile justice system. This will include providing paraprofessional guidance and counseling to residents, interventions to control aggressive behaviors, documentation of behaviors and activities, and monitoring and moderation of resident behavior.
Education and Experience
All direct-care staff shall be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (10 O.S. § 401 et seq.); the completion of thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university or one year of security experience; plus three years of security experience working with juveniles in a residential care and treatment facility.
Work Schedule
Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center is a 24-hour facility. This position is subject to shift work and applicants must be willing to work any shift as needed to provide coverage. Overtime may be required if necessary to maintain the facility.
1st Shift 7:00am to 3:00pm
2nd Shift 3:00pm to 11:00pm
3rd Shift 11:00pm to 7:00am
Typical Functions
* Provides security and supervision to adjudicated residents in a variety of situations and activities.
* Performs routine duties in care, custody, education, and treatment of residents; observes, records, and reports health symptoms, behavior, and activity of residents.
* Manages aggressive and non-aggressive behavior through verbal and physical intervention using prescribed and approved techniques; quickly responds to physical assaults, riots, and other emergency situations.
* Conducts count of residents and enforces institutional rules and regulations; observes resident and staff activities on multiple surveillance monitor screens.
* Provides paraprofessional counseling and instruction to residents by directing their daily activities, maintaining order, providing support, and helping them develop and achieve personal goals; serves on a treatment team to review residents' progress, treatment and educational plans; serves as a group leader by reviewing and assessing the adjustment and functioning of a group of residents.
* Inspects the facility's living areas and work locations to ensure health and safety standards are being met, conducts searches for unauthorized objects, materials, and contraband; maintains security in an assigned area or post; controls movement of residents to and from living quarters for activities and off-campus appointments; maintains order and discipline during programs, meals, and recreation periods by utilizing empathic verbal communication skills.
* Patrols facility grounds, juvenile living quarters and work areas on an assigned shift while observing the activities and movements of residents; checks authorized persons in or out of buildings and grounds area while assuring unauthorized persons are denied access.
* Checks the physical security of the facility, including doors, windows, and lighting.
* Completes written and/or typed reports on a variety of incidents and residents' behaviors; sends and receives verbal transmissions over a hand-held radio; maintains a written log of daily facility activities; communicates by telephone with emergency responder agencies in crisis situations.
* Provide safe and secure transport services for OJA custody youth to and from placement, juvenile detention centers, court hearings, and various other appointments such as medical, dental and mental health evaluations.
* Will have responsibility for GPS monitoring, tracking, inventory and documentation in assigned areas.
* Other high risk transportation duties as assigned and specified through the Performance Management Process (PMP).
* Assists other OJA employees as needed/other duties as assigned.

Completed an UAP (unlicensed assistive personnel) program in Missouri or another State (that meets current regulatory requirements) within the past 3 years.
Completed a professional (BSN/AD) or practical (LPN) nursing program outside the United States and is awaiting the licensure examination in this country.
Worked as a nurse assistant, emergency medical technician (EMT), or surgical technician within the past 3 years. Some units may require bilingual skills.
