Job Overview

The individual in this position will work on residential projects that include maintenance, warranty, renovations/additions for WR Homes' current customers. This position works under the supervision of a lead carpenter or foreman to ensure that Residential Services' commitments are met through the efficient and effective completion of all basic field carpentry activities. Our valued carpenters are part of a career ladder, so if you are interested in advancement this may be the position for you. Carpenters who demonstrate sound carpentry, leadership and technology skills have the potential to move into a Lead Carpenter position.

Job Requirements

+ Availability to work 40 hours per week

+ Experience with a wide variety of construction materials and fastening systems and jobsite activities

+ Ability to read blueprints and plans and identify problems

+ Knowledge of the construction process and carpentry's role

+ Awareness of how carpentry integrates with related trades involved in residential work

+ Ability to troubleshoot or identify basic electrical, plumbing or refrigeration issues a plus.

+ Strong verbal communication skills and a focus on teamwork to ensure the crew's success

+ Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

+ Good organizational skills and attention to pace and accuracy

Education and Experience Requirements

+ High School diploma and/or technical education in a construction related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Five years of general residential carpentry experience (frame to finish)

Job Summary:

• Cut, shape, install building materials for during the construction, remodeling or repair in a residential and light commercial setting.
• Regularly work with fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard.
• Determine and clearly identify proper materials and material quantities for new and existing projects.
• Evaluate customer requests, price projects, troubleshoot customer issues, and present a description of a work order to a customer.
• Knowledge of other trades is highly desirable

What does it take to be a Carpenter at Neil Kelly?

• Able to work as a team and independently
• High level of ability to do: demo, site protection, framing, drywall repair (both nailing and finishing), window and door installation, exterior trim, Cabinets, Windows, Doors, Moldings, Exterior trim, Interior finish work
• Experience with Kitchen and Bathroom remodeling, and other Residential Remodeling
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and detailed specifications
• Advanced knowledge of: housing, remodeling design and construction processes, local building codes, maintenance practices, and repair techniques
• Customer service and client interaction skills
• Must be okay with an array of tasks from (demo, deliveries, dump runs, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent problem analysis, diagnostic, and solution skills
• Self-motivated and a can-do attitude
• Time management skills
• Ability to deliver and produce projects within approved time schedules and budgets
• Organized and detail oriented

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience in drywall installation and painting
• Plumbing knowledge and experience
• Electrical knowledge and experience

Requirements

• The right tools to do the job
• Pickup truck with canopy, or utility type van
• Able to pass required pre-employment screenings including criminal background, MVR, and drug screenings
• Able to perform physical exertion including: carrying, climbing, crawling, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, hauling, and lifting as much as 100 pounds
• Maintain company and OSHA safety requirements
• Obtain/maintain current First Aid/CPR certification
• 2+ years of experience in the field of residential carpentry
