The Mental Health Rehabilitative Specialist (MHRS) provides trauma informed, culturally sensitive intensive rehabilitative services to youth. This role focuses on teaching youth social skills, coping skills, emotional regulation, and social integration. The MHRS is a member of a multidisciplinary team that works together to create and implement personalized treatment plans, conduct therapeutic interventions, and support daily activities within the residential treatment setting. This position requires strong rapport-building abilities, knowledge of mental health rehabilitation, and the capacity to work effectively in a structured residential setting.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, child development or a related field required.
Must be at least 22 years old.
Four years of experience in a mental health setting as a specialist in the field of physical restoration, social adjustment, or vocational adjustment. Up to two years of graduate professional education may be substituted for the experience requirement on a year-for year basis; up to two years of post- associate arts clinical experience may be substituted for the required educational experience in addition to the requirement of four years' experience in a mental health setting.
A valid California driver's license is required of staff who have regular driving duties, and the driving record must meet the requirements of their position and be approved by the agency's insurance company.

Provide individual and group counseling sessions, using evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help residents improve coping skills, emotional regulation, and interpersonal relationships.
Teach and support residents in developing essential life skills such as self-care, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication to promote independence.
Regularly assess and document residents' progress, updating treatment plans as needed to reflect changes in their mental health status or goals.
Respond to behavioral crises, providing immediate support and de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
Work closely with therapists, case managers, social workers, and other group home staff to coordinate care and provide comprehensive support for residents.
Advocate for residents' needs within the system and connect them with external resources such as educational, vocational, or additional mental health services.
Collect outcome data and consumer satisfaction data as required by the agency and contractor.
Must implement program goals and objectives to meet and maintain contractual requirements and productivity.
Participate in scheduled Peer Review.
Responsible for preventing and controlling infection.
Responsible for maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
Effectively use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
Properly administer the C-SSRS to help prevent suicide.
Effectively use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention techniques for crisis prevention and/or intervention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Supervise, train, and evaluate 7-22 Resident Assistants and possibly a Graduate Residential College/Community Coordinator

Participate in the departmental 24/7 on-call duty and emergency response system for the residential community
Provide advice, support, assistance and referrals to resident students regarding academic, housing, personal or other concerns
Provide resources and support for the activities and programs in the building/community
Serve as a judicial hearing officer within the Residential Review process
Serve as a representative on department task forces, projects, and/or committees
Maintain a weekly work schedule with a minimum of 37.5 hours/week for residents and staff. Evening office hours are expected. Additionally, there will be periodic weekend commitments

Duty Responsibilities

Being on duty requires the Residential College/Community Coordinator to be on campus or within the duty perimeter. On duty staff will carry a duty mobile phone and respond to all calls. Weekday duty is 24-hour coverage until 8:30 am the following day.
Weekend/Holiday duty is 24-hour coverage beginning on Friday until 8:30 am on Monday.
The On-Duty Residential College/Community Coordinator will follow duty procedures and respond to all emergency and crisis calls and assist all staff in managing these situations
The On-Duty Residential College/Community Coordinator will keep the leadership staff informed of emergencies or serious disruptions that may require intervention or follow-up
Notify appropriate staff members regarding situations that impact the residence halls and/or students in the residence halls
Input all student of concern information and communication into the reporting system
Budgeting Functions
Maintain a building/community budget including funds for programming, faculty funds, and office supplies
Maintain accurate records and receipts for the Workday financial reconciliation processes
Student Development Functions
Incorporate student development theory and knowledge into daily practices and decision-making
Be available to Resident Assistants and students for referral and counseling needs, conflict mediation, crisis intervention and appropriate follow-up

Role Responsibilities (Here's what it takes)
Provide 1:1 care directly with Clients during scheduled sessions under the supervision of a Board- Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Implement established behavioral treatment plans based on the science of applied behavior analysis (ABA) across skill levels, moderate to severe problem behaviors, and service delivery settings.
Ensure that 100% of the scheduled direct services are provided without any scheduling interruptions.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client progress, interventions, and outcomes.
Collect data related to Client's progress during treatment sessions.
Incorporate activities and games that are developmentally appropriate and engaging for the client in alignment with the treatment plan.
Promote Client engagement to build their strengths in a natural and enjoyable manner.
Consulting with case Supervisor on treatment plans, Client updates, and intervention strategies.

The Position
The Mental Health Specialist (MHS) is responsible for providing direct clinical intervention to participants (families and individual adults) in Interim Housing Site(s) or as part of a street-based Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). The MHS will identify participants needing mental health services through assessments, referrals, and coordination of care with partner agencies. The MHS will connect participants to community based and mental health care, provide crisis prevention and intervention, recommend level of care options, and support participants by utilizing evidenced based clinical modalities The MHS will provide in-person individual one-on-one care and lead groups. The MHS will also support their team by consulting on cases, providing recommendations for services and modeling appropriate interventions with members of their multidisciplinary team. The MHS must be able to complete thorough clinical assessment, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and collaborate closely with various community-based programs connected to the Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Department of Health Services (DHS).
What You'll Do
Provides in-person, individual and group based clinical case management and behavioral health services to people experiencing homelessness in interim housing settings or within a homeless outreach team.
Conducts mental health, substance use and safety/risk assessments on identified participants
Creates relationships with mental health service providers, Department of Mental Health, VA and hospital social work teams. Refer participants for services as well as maintain a resource listing of mental health services for participants engaged in LA Family Housing programs.
Engages in discharge planning and leads care coordination activities
Utilizes Harm Reduction, Housing First, Low Barrier and Trauma Informed Care philosophies when working with individuals experiencing homelessness
Works collaboratively with medical providers to ensure PEH are triaged to needed medical care
Completes risk assessment and safety plan and liaise with Psychiatric Mobile Response Team (PMRT) if danger to self/others resulting from a mental health disorder or grave disability is suspected.
Follows mandated reporting guidelines with communication to protective and emergency services as needed; complete follow-up documentation as required, including incident reports
Advocates on participants' behalf with other organizations and/or government agencies when appropriate
Coordinate services with other non-clinical staff including:
Co-facilitating meetings
Organize participant mental health events
Provide guidance, direction, and clinical support through case consultations
Provide training for social services staff (in coordination with Supervisor)
Provides crisis intervention and conflict management techniques
Provides support with medication monitoring services, to help participants take medications correctly and promote healthy and wellness
Provides task supervision to MSW interns and utilize the interns in providing support to participants serving as a Preceptor or Field Instructor to MSW or MFT interns as needed
Assists in onboarding activities for MHS new-hires related to mental health assessment, documentation, linkage, and safety procedures
Ensures that referrals are completed; provide advocacy as needed
Maintains thorough and accurate records in both written form and through HMIS/CHAMP
Attend various regular staff, agency. and community meetings as designated by supervisor
Drive personal vehicle in and around Los Angeles County and drive agency vehicles periodically to transport clients
