POSITION SUMMARY The Residential Youth Counselor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the housing program and the direct care of residents during 8-hour shifts. Youth Counselors create and supervise a physically and psychologically safe and affirming environment for residents, helping them meet their needs and progress on their goals. Youth Counselors provide individual support and group programming, and oversee the functioning of the site. Youth Counselors must be organized, able to work and solve problems independently, and communicate effectively with supervisors. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide a physically and psychologically safe, clean, and secure homelike environment. Complete hourly site walk-throughs to check in with residents and ensure the site is secure. Complete daily chores as needed. De-escalate and regularly check in on issues between residents. Maintain a safe, respectful, hospitable, and professional atmosphere. Provide individual and group support to residents as needed. Facilitate groups or activities. Complete intakes for new arriving residents. Prepare and supervise meals. (This is required in the Emergency Housing program.) Use trauma informed care practices to uphold and support program policies and ensure consistency in the delivery of services. Document daily services, maintain client charts, progress notes, and group notes. Complete daily individual and group progress notes. Communicate necessary resident updates to program supervisors and residents' care teams (Case Manager, Therapist, Health Counselor) as needed, in a timely manner. Communicate with Operations, IT, and Facilities as needed. Attend weekly mandatory staff meetings and training. Attend regular supervision, at least twice per month. QUALIFICATIONS Competencies Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with youth, colleagues, and supervisors. Empathy: Ability to understand and share the feelings of others, providing compassionate support to youth. Problem-Solving: Strong ability to identify problems and develop effective solutions independently. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with the treatment team, IT and Facilities, and program supervisors. Cultural Competency: Awareness and understanding of the cultural and social issues affecting LGBTQ+ and homeless youth. Experience working with adolescent/young adult population required. Knowledge of psychosocial needs of LGBTQ/homeless population is helpful. Shift: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 2pm to 10pm Pay Rate: $23.48 per hour Requirements ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Member Support Engage and support members with apartment maintenance and cleanliness, training in necessary tasks for the upkeep of the residence environment and personal well-being of resident members Participate in an integrated care team providing feedback, advocacy and support to FH clinical staff, case management support staff, vocational staff, and social practitioners Assist members with all aspects of community support services and case management work (including housing and entitlements, clinical linkage, and follow-up, etc.) Support a caseload between two-three members-member's list assignment is up to three depending on census Complete weekly progress notes for each assigned member in accordance with the guidelines of the Office of Mental Health (OMH) Develop Service Plans and complete Service Plan Reviews every 3-months for each assigned member in accordance with the guidelines Office of Mental Health (OMH) Observe the self-administration of member medication and document on medication monitoring sheets Accompany members with medical appointments, clubhouse visits and community engagements Oversee and assist members with activities of daily life skills (ADL) that includes cleaning, proper hygiene, medication management skills, money management, fire safety, cooking, etc. De-escalate potential member crises and alert supervisor of ongoing issues if required Liaise with social practitioners to encourage consistent unit attendance for positive social wellbeing Create problem-solving strategies to address member crises Building Safety & Maintenance Conduct rounds to ensure safeguards are in place throughout residential space, for member safety Request work orders for building maintenance that adhere to city and state guidelines, including fire safety drills, and keeping maintenance logs General Duties Transport members to community activities or medical appointments per request Responsible for reception duties of the residence including answering the phones, scheduling, and taking accurate messages Attend staff meetings and professional development training as required Other duties may be assigned as needed REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND CREDENTIALS Undergraduate degree required or an equivalent work experience and training in similar settings required 1-3+ years' work experience in a residential, housing, or similar setting required Provide exceptional ongoing support and member confidentiality Flexible and able to work any residential shift, including evenings and weekends, as needed Valid Driver's License highly preferred, not required Salary Description 23.48

Job Description The Residential Counselor is primarily responsible for the provision of clinical counseling services and comprehensive case management; The Residential Counselor reports directly to the Residential Assistant Director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES; Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Collects and analyzes assessment data which includes substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders. Completes intake process and arrives at treatment recommendations and level of care decisions that are appropriate to client's level of functioning and medical necessity. Completes psychosocial assessments. Develops initial and comprehensive individualized treatment plans based on client's needs, using client's words, and that have measurable objectives, within established timelines, based on assessment, psychosocial, client's assessed stage of change, and in consultation with client and treatment team as appropriate. Provides individual counseling based on treatment plan and client centered needs. Conducts group counseling. Conducts evidence based practices to the individual needs of the clients (EBPs include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Matrix Model, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). Responds to client feedback/suggestions. Is responsible for verification of employment and timely and accurate collection of pay stubs and client fees. Monitors client's savings. Attends to client needs in a thorough and timely manner. Speaks of and to clients with dignity and respect. Is attuned to the presence of trauma indicators and project safety and trust in the professional relationship. Conducts discharge planning with the client. Provides crisis intervention services as needed. Attends staff meetings and team conferences. Assures daily finger imaging. Is always aware of client whereabouts. Consults with other legal and treatment agencies and individuals as needed. Recognizes, responds to, high risk factors including suicidal and homicidal ideation. Recognizes, responds to, and defuse volatile or dangerous situations as allowable; when in doubt always call for assistance and/or 911. Acts as liaison with networking/referring agencies, e.g.; Courts, Parole, Probation, ACCESS, etc. Is aware of client's compliance with medication, vocational and medical appointments and addresses all non-compliant issues. Encourages family involvement when appropriate. Completes required documentation in an accurate, timely and intelligible manner. Accesses records only where the “need to know” exists. Follows established Federal, State and Elmcor guidelines on confidentiality. Maintains current knowledge base on counseling issues regarding substance abuse and other psychosocial disorders. Seeks supervision and consultation as needed. May be required to work evenings and weekends. Education and/or Experience: CASAC and 1 year experience working with applicable populations who have substance abuse/co-occurring disorders; or CASAC-T with 2-3 years' experience working with applicable populations who have substance abuse/co-occurring disorders; or HS Diploma and 6 years' experience working with applicable populations who have substance abuse/co-occurring disorders. Must have computer skills. Must successfully complete a criminal background check, obtain clearance from the Office of Children and Family Services and be drug free.
