Full-time Description The Youth and Family Engagement Specialist (YAFES) will work to provide and support direct services to youth and their families aimed at promoting health, wellness, and academic success for those in our service area. This role focuses on prevention, early identification, intervention, and ongoing support for students impacted by the social determinants of health using trauma informed approaches that recognize how trauma affects academic, social, and behavioral functioning. Most services are delivered within the school setting both during and after school, supporting the School Based Health Center (SBHC), while also engaging in community outreach and engagement. The YAFES creates a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for youth and families, supporting care alongside school staff, health professionals, and community partners to build wraparound support. Candidates for this position should be passionate about working directly with diverse youth populations who face social determinants of health and be ready to build and maintain trusting relationships with our community. Key Responsibilities Youth and Family Development Lead and facilitate group sessions based on established, evidence-based curriculum focused on reproductive health, prevention, peer support, and leadership development that addresses the social determinants of health. Description: Each client admitted Spero's substance use and recovery program is assigned a Substance Use Counselor. The Substance Use Counselor takes responsibility for coordinating the following: assessment and identification of client's needs, coordination of the development of the treatment plan, facilitation of groups and individual counseling, treatment coordination, and coordination of discharge planning. The Substance Use Counselor will primarily service adult clients and may have the opportunity to work with adolescent clients, if additional educational and supervision requirements have been completed. The Child Life Specialist promotes effective coping through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities. Provides emotional support for families and encourages optimum development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences, particularly those related to healthcare and hospitalization. Provides information, support and guidance to parents, siblings, and other family members. Plays a vital role in educating caregivers, administrators, and the general public about the needs of children under stress. Bachelor's degree in child development, child life, child and family studies or related field; completion of eligibility assessment by the Association for Child Life Professionals (ACLP); and successful completion of, at minimum, a 480-hour clinical child life internship under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist. One year of recent work experience with children and families. Minimum of two years of paid experience as a Child Life Specialist. Knowledge and experience to ensure understanding of the basic issues of infant/child/adolescent development and behavior. Analytical skills necessary to assess patient and family needs, to establish a plan of care and deliver appropriate interventions. Ability to represent and communicate the role of child life to others. Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively across clinical settings. Ability to work as a contributing member of the multidisciplinary team. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Technical skills to effectively complete required professional documentation and correspondence. Basic supervisory skills to oversee Child Life program volunteers. Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) or granted acceptance to take next scheduled exam and attains certification within first year of employment. Many of the people we serve have experienced frequent crises, hospital stays, or legal involvement. They may have a history of failed placements and need a highly structured environment to succeed. Our homes are specially designed for safety, and our approach is consistent, person-centered, and focused on helping individuals reach their goals while maintaining safety for everyone. Due to the challenging nature of this work, staff receive training in behavioral support and crisis response, including the use of manual restraints when necessary. Please note: This role may involve exposure to verbal aggression or difficult behaviors. We provide strong training and team support to help you succeed. What You'll Do: As a Mental Health Specialist II, you'll play a hands-on role in helping people lead more independent, stable lives.
