* To be successful, a Residential Supervisor must be able to do the following always:
* Along with the Residential Therapist, lead a group treatment team with the responsibility for ensuring each child successfully completes the goals set forth in their treatment plan.
* Manage the cottage to ensure it operates within the rules, regulations and guidelines set forth by the State of Michigan’s Department of Human Services, the agency, and CARF.
* Establish and maintain cottage systems, records and reports; recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures for continual improvement of cottage services.

What Does A Residential Supervisor Do At Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Inc.

* Give input to the operating policies and procedures of the residential treatment program as needed.
* Monitor Clinical systems for adherence to the therapeutic community and system of care, while providing training needs to continue integrity of the TVC model.
* Provide supervision of practicum students, or volunteer placements under residential services.
* Assure adequate and appropriate referrals are made to the Co
* Occurring Clinicians for participant to and who are receiving mental health services.
* Supervises the Residential Substance Use Counselors, and Co
* Occurring Clinicians, as well as all Interns in residential program.
* Responsible for oversight of Masters Level Clinicians.
* Supervise Peer Support Supervisor to assure direct service providers meet core competencies training, understanding of TVC model and adhere to all program policies and procedures.
* Work in collaboration with Outpatient Supervisor and Intake Coordinator to assure intakes from waitlist are scheduled and caseloads are filled for residential unit.
* Work with Facility Supervisor to assure adherence to and understanding of TVC model and adhere to all program policies and procedures.
* Works with Facility Supervisor to assure adherence to residential Work Therapy component to the TVC.
* Maintain a working relationship with Village Council (VC) to assist with TVC model and VC structure.
* Conduct weekly contacts with Tele
* Psychiatry providers to assure participants are receiving services, medication management and recommendations are followed through with clinical staff for services.
* Oversee that all staff member’s caseloads are filled and maintained to meet utilization as outlined on Goals Grid and Grant requirements.
* Oversee the self-administration of medication adheres to policy and procedures.
* Oversee clinical operations of residential facility assuring integration of systems and insuring consistency in philosophy with Recovery Services and compliance with standards for content and timeliness.
* Approve and monitor all clinical progress notes, treatment plans and file review for clinical accuracy and timeliness.
* Maintain a safe environment of care and assures compliance with health and safety standards and policies.
* Monitor and assure that all clinical groups are conducted and followed as outline in the group schedule.
* Assure a thorough orientation schedule for new staff members is created and adhered to for new hire training.
* Train, oversee, and provide guidance in clinical documentation with the Recovery Services Case Management System (RSCMS).
* Create staff development and individual learning plans to ensure staff are gaining and maintaining necessary skills for increased performance and certification.
* Conduct yearly performance evaluations for direct supervised staff.
* Monitor and provide supervision, as outlined in policies and procedures, and feedback to clinical staff regarding group and individual techniques.
* Have a working knowledge and understanding of suicidal ideation and the procedure to clinically assess a participant and obtain the appropriate medical personnel in this type of crisis.
* Assure a culturally appropriate treatment regime throughout residential services and referring agencies (to and from).
* Assure timely submission of all ASAP reports including ASAP miscellaneous note entry into AKAIMS system.
* Assist in providing information, as needed, for reports; including, dashboard, board reports, state quarterlies and annual grant continuations.
* Assist in outreach services to ensure utilization of treatment and managing of waitlist.
* Maintain active presence and availability on the treatment unit for participant and staff needs.
* Conduct weekly case staffing to review participant progress, transitional planning, treatment plan updates, and assure adequate level of care.
* Facilitate referrals between resources in order to ensure effective transfers between the participant’s different levels of care.
* Fulfill responsibilities during staff vacancies to meet the needs of the participants.
* Work cohesively with other supervisors, managers and contractors to ensure quality of care across the unit.
* Attend off-site meetings as well as off-site case staffing.
* Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.

How To Become A Residential Supervisor

Requirements for social and human service assistants vary, although they typically have at least a high school diploma and must complete a brief period of on-the-job training. Some employers prefer to hire workers who have additional education or experience.

Education

Although a high school diploma is typically required, some employers prefer to hire workers who have relevant work experience or education beyond high school. A certificate or an associate’s degree in a subject such as human services, gerontology (working with older adults), or social or behavioral science is common for workers entering this occupation.

Human service degree programs train students to observe and interview patients, carry out treatment plans, and handle people who are undergoing a crisis. Many programs include fieldwork to give students hands-on experience.

The level of education that social and human service assistants have completed often determines the responsibilities they are given. Those with a high school diploma are likely to do lower level work, such as helping clients fill out paperwork. Assistants with some college education may coordinate program activities or manage a group home.

Although postsecondary education is important, some employers may prefer or allow for applicants who have related work experience. In some cases, candidates may substitute such experience in place of postsecondary education. 

Training

Many social and human service assistants, particularly those without any postsecondary education, undergo a period of on-the-job training. Because such workers often are dealing with multiple clients from a wide variety of backgrounds, on-the-job training in case management helps prepare them to respond appropriately to the different needs and situations of their clients.

Advancement

For social and human service assistants, additional education is almost always necessary for advancement. In general, advancement to case management or social work jobs requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in human services, counseling, rehabilitation, social work, or a related field.

Important Qualities

Communication skills. Social and human service assistants talk with clients about the challenges in their lives and assist them in getting help. These workers must be able to listen to their clients and to communicate the clients’ needs to organizations that can help them.

Compassion. Social and human service assistants often work with people who are in stressful and difficult situations. To develop strong relationships, they must have compassion and empathy for their clients.

Interpersonal skills. Social and human service assistants must make their clients feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues. Assistants also need to build relationships with other service providers to become familiar with all of the resources that are available in their communities.

Organizational skills. Social and human service assistants often must complete lots of paperwork and work with many different clients. They must be organized in order to ensure that the paperwork is filed properly and that clients are getting the help they need.

Problem-solving skills. Social and human service assistants help clients find solutions to their problems. They must be able to listen carefully to their clients’ needs and offer practical solutions.

Time-management skills. Social and human service assistants often work with many clients. They must manage their time effectively to ensure that their clients are getting the attention they need.

Some employers require a criminal background check. In some settings, workers need a valid driver’s license.
