Qualifications and Experience
BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology or equivalent experience.
2+ years of professional software development experience.
Experience with public cloud (AWS) and cloud computing concepts.
Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals and experience with at-least one programming language such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Go, Typescript, React etc.
Understanding of test practices regardless of language or tools.
Basic knowledge of source control, pull requests and automated quality gates using tools such as GitHub, Bitbucket etc.
Passion for learning and problem solving.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts and practices is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building services using cloud native technologies including Kubernetes, Docker, serverless, etc. is a plus
Production experience building and operating Kubernetes clusters in public cloud is a plus.
Experience monitoring infrastructure with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, Splunk, ELK etc.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, experience with on-call rotation and incident management.

Working Conditions:
Standard Office setting in the Fort Point District of Boston, MA. Work within a commutable distance to our Boston/Seaport office with the option to work remotely one day out of the week, as business needs allow.
This position requires a person to be able to lift small loads and maneuver in laboratory spaces for accessing the robotically-assisted surgical equipment when testing.

The Gilead Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) Architect role will provide architectural leadership to the CPE DevOps Team on both delivery and support.
Description of Responsibilities
* Gilead Cloud core platform services and automation development (design, development and delivery of technical code) for the AWS Control Tower Landing Zone

**Job Description**
The **Gilead Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) Architect** role will provide architectural leadership to the CPE DevOps Team on both delivery and support.
**Description of Responsibilities**
+ Gilead Cloud core platform services and automation development (design, development and delivery of technical code) for the AWS Control Tower Landing Zone
+ Terraform development impacting AWS account baselines, CI/CD integration with the platform, DMZ networking, and SCP management
+ Core platform and automation security hardening
+ Maintenance and support of core platform automation, guardrails and Security Control Policies (SCPs).
+ Platform development, coding, automation, role-based access control, authentication, Cyber Security hardening and cloud support
+ Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD): Design, build, and maintain CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines to automate the building, testing, and deployment of applications. This includes Integration of CI/CD pipelines via automation with other services including security scanning, artifact repositories, ITSM, etc.
+ Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Manage and provision cloud infrastructure using tools such as Terraform to ensure consistent and repeatable deployments.
+ Cloud infrastructure management: Deploy, manage, and optimize cloud-based resources on platforms like AWS and Microsoft Azure.
+ Containerization and orchestration: Work with container technologies like Docker and orchestration systems like Kubernetes to manage and scale applications.
+ Monitoring and logging: Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to track application performance, system health, and security issues.
+ Security and compliance: Ensure that cloud environments and deployment practices adhere to security best practices and compliance standards.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with application teams, security, and quality assurance to troubleshoot issues and streamline processes.
+ Automation: Identify and automate manual and repetitive processes to increase efficiency and reduce human error. Leverage AI tools for improved automation and scale.
+ Troubleshooting: Perform root cause analysis and provide technical support to resolve issues in development, testing, and production environments.
+ Provide daily technical leadership and guidance to the Cloud Platform Engineering Core and CI/CD Engineering Scrum Team
**Education and Experience Required:**
+ Minimum Required Education and Years of Experience:High School Degree and Fourteen Year's ExperienceORAssociates Degree and Twelve Years ExperienceORBachelor's Degree and Ten Years' ExperienceORMasters' Degree and Eight Years' Experience
+ Public Cloud Services knowledge of AWS, MS Azure (a plus)

+ Advanced code writing in multiple languages to design and deliver Gilead Cloud CI/CD pipeline services (primarily AWS, Azure a plus)
+ Code development in multiple languages preferred, expert skills in Terraform and GitHub required
+ Understanding and capability to Lead an Agile Scrum Team
+ Strong root cause analysis skills to troubleshoot and resolve support escalations for Gilead Cloud core services
+ Develop and publish infrastructure and Application architecture designs

The salary range for this position is:
Raleigh: $168,980.00 - $218,680.00.
Bay Area: $195,670.00 - $253,220.00.

Job Description
As the Senior Staff Software Engineer, Research Systems and lead business analyst, you will allocate and coordinate resources, ensuring project timelines and business goals are met efficiently. You will function as the lead business and participate in all evaluations for new or updated applications. **Job Description**
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ With limited guidance, may lead a small team in the development and maintenance of business applications.
+ Provides direction to junior staff using established policies and standard methodologies.
+ May investigate project feasibility, prepare project cost and benefit estimates, estimates project resource needs for staff and consultants.
+ Configures and develops computer applications and solutions by using analytical functional specifications and interpreting system design specifications.
+ During system implementation and change management, may support, test, and refine application configurations to align with business process needs.
+ Coordinates infrastructure requirements with IT peers.
+ Works with business and IT partners to enhance applications to reduce operating time or improve efficiency.
+ Prepares program-level and user-level documentation.
+ Assists with definition of overall system architecture.
+ Assists with software configuration management, introduction and training.
+ Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates multiple work activities to meet project deadlines; Identifies and documents business processes for assigned work activities.
+ Can work directly with customers to probe and ask effective questions to fully diagnose both the problem root cause and customer's comfort level with application.
+ Can assess more complex problems including those escalated by junior staff.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ BA/BS in a science with 5+ years of relevant industry experience ; OR
+ MA/MS in a science with 3+ years of relevant industry experience
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Extensive understanding and application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field. Advance knowledge of other related disciplines. May provide on-the-job guidance to others.
**Problem Solving:**
+ Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are innovative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
**Discretion/ Latitude:**
+ Works under limited direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed periodically upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

The salary range for this position is: $126,820.00 - $164,120.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
