Respiratory Care Practitioner I/Flat Rate/WEO - Springfield Regional Medical Center Job Summary: The Respiratory Care Practitioner I is responsible for providing respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. Performs all respiratory care procedures including but not limited to oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services and patient and staff education. Monitors the patient's response to such therapies and makes recommendations to change or modify based on the assessment. Essential Functions: * May serve as a preceptor to new team members and/or students. * Assesses patient's physical status by inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, patient behavior and reviewing existing data in patient's record. * Performs treatments according to physician orders, explains therapy and therapeutic goals to patient; modifies treatment procedures based on patient response. * Determines appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommends methods to physician to achieve therapeutic goals including IPPB, Aerosol therapy, Postural drainage and percussion, ultrasonic nebulizer, incentive spirometry, metered dose inhalers and spacers, etc. * Sets up and maintains different modes of oxygen therapy, to maintain adequate PaO2's with accurate inspired levels of oxygen. * Administers intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or Aerosol Therapy by first preparing the prescribed medication ordered by the physician and adjusting the machine or device to accomplish patient's individual clinical needs; document and observe patient's vital signs, productivity of cough, relief of Dyspnea, improved breath sounds and any adverse reactions to therapy; and use judgement and technical skill to determine possible adverse reactions and suggestions for appropriateness of therapy. * Gives postural drainage, vibration, percussion to ensure proper drainage of bronchial secretions by use of manual or mechanical percussion; check orders and X-rays for segments to be treated prior to initiating treatment; auscultation prior to and after procedure to note presence of clearance of secretions and response to therapy. * Instructs patients and families in incentive spirometer, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, postural drainage and clapping, oxygen therapy, ventilator care and home aerosol therapy. * May assist doctor with bronchoscopy and tracheostomy; assists with tracheostomy endotracheal tube changes; ensures proper humidification. * Procurement of sputum for culture and sensitivity or airway clearance either by patient coaching, administration of mucolytics, aerosol therapy or endotracheal / nasopharyngeal suctioning. * Evaluates normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges. * Performs arterial punctures and analysis; has an in-depth knowledge of analysis and arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation. Our free-standing CTICU is a 20-bed unit with 600+ admissions per year (medical and surgical). The Heart Center's comprehensive services include hybrid palliation, comprehensive single ventricle program, thoracic organ transplantation, blood conservation strategies, and cardiac mechanical support. Current annual clinical metrics include: over 450 cardiothoracic surgeries, over 600 cardiac catheterizations and EP procedures, and over 24,000 cardiology outpatient visits. We have a pediatric and pediatric/adult combined cardiology fellowship programs. The Heart Center embraces a culture of patient safety and quality, transparency, value-based care, public health awareness, excellence in education and engagement in translational/outcomes research. A Brief OverviewThe therapist is learning and incorporating the mission statement and standards of behavior of his/her hospital or care facility. This therapist performs basic competencies within orientation and provides satisfactory respiratory therapy with minimum supervision. This role provides an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and work with a multidisciplinary team collaborating with Registered Nurses and other caregivers to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care. **A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. with weekend and holiday rotation** **requirements.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies. + Direct respiratory caregivers for delivery of care. + Implement and monitor patient care plans. + Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans. + Monitor, record and communicate patients' conditions. + Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis. + Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program + Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care + Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure + Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA) OR American Red Cross, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through American Heart Association (AHA) and/or Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification when appropriate for site. + Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Prior experience in critical care + Bachelor's degree + Neonatal/pediatric experience preferred when appropriate for site. + Prior experience performing invasive procedures preferred when appropriate for site. **Physical Requirements:** + Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. + Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range. + May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. **Personal Protective Equipment:** + Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. **Pay Range** Minimum hourly: $32.00 Maximum hourly: $43.80 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
