License/Certification: Minimum Required: Licensed in Respiratory Therapy in the State of Louisiana. BLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association. PALS obtained within orientation period. Credentialed by the NBRC. Preferred: Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS). NRP certification.

Special Skills/Training: Minimum Required: Ability to provide proper therapy to neonates, infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. Good communication skills required. Must be able to understand computer technology use, equipment and integration. Must be able to understand methods used to critically analyze data for the purpose of departmental performance improvement.

This full time position is 40 hours, Monday-Friday 11:30 pm-8:00 am, with on-call every other weekend.

This position is responsible for monitoring and reporting quality assurance and quality control activities. This must be performed in accordance with all internal and external established guidelines governing the practices of Respiratory Care.

The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor:
Schedules and supervises respiratory therapists, technicians and aids per shift or on the absence of the designated shift supervisor. Monitors the performance of therapists, technicians, aides and students. Provides the Director with periodic performance evaluations of competency screens of therapist, technicians, and aides. Prepares daily clinical work assignments and ensures that all assignments are carded out properly. Responsible for determining and insuring appropriate staffing based upon clinical workload. Instructs personnel on his/her shift in proper techniques of all therapy/care and the after care of equipment. Responsible for insuring proper maintenance of all equipment and that all equipment used is kept operable. Assures adequate supplies are readily available at all times. Maintains accurate records of malfunctioning equipment removed from service. Evaluates new procedures starts and ventilator patients. Attends patient rounds with the physician to ascertain the patient's needs and the prescribed procedures of therapy, making recommendation at that time. Participates in the patient care evaluation process in order to assure that quality of care is provided by all staff therapists, technicians and aides. Evaluates and updates, if necessary, the techniques being used for therapy. Responsible to investigate incidents and problems and prepare resolutions. Follows the Service and/or University protocol on reporting and handling incidents. Responds to the needs of divisional personnel concerning coverage of the service, patient care problems, equipment, union grievances, make appropriate resolution of problem to management. Participates in research projects, special projects and evaluation of new equipment. Conducts and records minutes of meeting with his/her shift. Responsible to communicate all service, divisional, department and hospital information to his/her staff members. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.
Minimum Competencies Include:
Skilled in respiratory therapy methodologies and techniques. Ability to coordinate and organize work. Must possess a high degree of independent judgment necessary to solve any interdepartmental problems and to ensure that adequate staff is on hand. Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with staff, physicians, Hospital and University officials, and the general public. Must be familiar with, follow and enforced the University and Hospital's general policies.

Minimum Requirements Include:
Graduate with the minimum of an Associate’s Degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist. One (1) year experience in a supervisory/operations management role is preferred. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred. Must meet the District of Columbia licensure requirement. Current BLS or ACLS certification.

Responsibilities
