Additional responsibilities include air/ground transport of neonatal/pediatric critical care patients from other hospitals. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Administers respiratory care modalities to patients. Assess patient conditions per AARC guidelines. Evaluates the effectiveness of therapy and recommends modification of therapy to physicians. Demonstrates knowledge of pulmonary anatomy and physiology during rounds and report. Familiar with diagnostic procedures utilized in the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases. Correctly applies advanced modalities in a critical care setting. Has sound knowledge of respiratory medications and pharmacologic action, dose, side effects, and method of administration. Serves as a respiratory consultant at the request of the physician. Cites AARC guidelines and remains current in the field of Respiratory Care. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical chemistries to include ABGs and basic electrolytes in both adult and geriatric patients. Skillfully establishes and maintains artificial airways in emergencies. Conforms to infection control policies and procedures. Participates in quality improvement projects as requested. Facilitates patient discharge to home and provides patient and family education. Provides clinical assistance in the orientation of new employees and students on clinical rotation. Participates in education programs as requested. Maintains BLS certification. Conforms to departmental and hospital policies and procedures and can readily locate when the need arises. Provides leadership to staff in the absence of the Lead Therapist. Demonstrates the ability to resolve difficult situations with finesse and skill. Ability to prioritize delivery of care when the need arises. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills and assures all documentation is accurate, legible and in accordance with department policy. Can effectively use hospital information systems skillfully and complies with security-related policies. Plans workload to complete assigned treatments and procedures within AARC time standards. Follows up on all patients transferred out of their assigned units to assure proper handoff and continuation of care. Prepares equipment and participates in the coordination of patient transports both in and outside the hospital. Operates and troubleshoots all equipment in the primary area of responsibility. Cleans assembles and restocks equipment in assigned unit or floor.
