Responsibilities: Under general supervision and medical direction performs respiratory care related procedures. Exercises considerable judgment in accordance with physician's treatment plan and within the scope of departmental policies and procedures. Scope of practice includes patient/family assessment and management, resource management, care facilitation, and discharge planning as required. Assesses resident's condition, administers prescribed therapy and aerosolized medications, observes and records resident's progress and response to therapy modalities including adverse reactions to drugs and therapy. Provides in-service training to residents, family members, and facility staff. Resident population is primarily adult and geriatric. Utilizes knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the resident's age to ensure that care provided meets the unique, physical and psychological needs of the resident. Involves appropriate parties (i.e. resident's family or facility staff) in the assessment, treatment, and continuing care of the resident as needed. Initiates, monitors and maintains life support systems for residents in the skilled nursing facility.
Performs airway care and maintenance.
Manages artificial ventilator status as directed by an approved protocol.
Maintains and troubleshoots mechanical ventilators.
Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures of bag ventilation and closed chest massage.Initiates, monitors and documents performance of various respiratory care modalities.Performs assessment of residents' cardiopulmonary status utilizing physical assessment and history taking skills, laboratory findings, radiological studies of the chest, pulmonary function testing and professional judgment to formulate a respiratory care plan upon the order of a physician.Performs various tasks prior to treating a resident as follows:
Check physician's orders for completeness.
Orders to include: diagnosis, ICD -10 code, type and duration of therapy, type and dosage of medication, FI02 and frequency.
Check resident's chart for history, physical and for pertinent information to determine precautions to be observed at bedside.
Observe and chart: pulse, respiration, breath sounds (number and quality), and resident's general appearance, including breathing exercises and teaching and training to residents.
Notify supervisor of all new starts and discontinued residents.Administers proper technical respiratory care procedures. Dispenses proper dosage of medication, acquires and adjusts devices to insure optimal results from therapy. This includes mask, mouthpiece, or Trach equipment for resident's comfort and ease of operation, regulates flow and pressure of equipment. Observes resident's respiratory rate and pattern, pulse, breath sounds, reaction to medication, any difficulty with therapy during and after treatment. Chart and communicate to the resident's nurse any pertinent information. Observe thorough and accurate charting technique.Inspects and tests equipment, disassembles, cleans, reassembles equipment as required. Maintains adequate supply of necessary equipment. Performs administrative duties and record keeping when required. Disposes of equipment properly.Assists in emergency cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as an integral part of the emergency team. Therapist is required to be CPR certified.8. Initiates, administers, evaluates response to, and documents all therapy modalities according to departmental procedure and ordered by a physician including: intermittent positive pressure breathing, hand held nebulizer, chest physical therapy modalities, including percussion, vibration, breathing and cough retraining exercises, deep tracheal suctioning, incentive spirometry, sputum induction.Recognizes resident's adverse reaction to therapy modalities and takes correct action.Documents all resident care services rendered as part of a medical record.Accepts and transcribes verbal orders related to respiratory care procedures.Sets up, maintains and records log entries on all types of oxygen and respiratory supplies and equipment as required.Instructs residents and family members in the rationale and methodology of every respiratory procedure administered to each resident to facilitate resident cooperation, understanding and efficiency of treatment. Summary

Performs mechanical ventilator management, Bi-pap, and respiratory monitoring.
Sets up, checks equipment, and administers respiratory medication for aerosol treatment as ordered by the physicians/or by patient-driven protocols, charts treatment, response, and progress.
Performs inventory of respiratory equipment and maintains adequate stock of equipment.
Provides respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by physicians according to established standards and practices.
Trains other staff including physicians and students in issues relevant to respiratory therapy.
Performs emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintains adequate airways, measures ventilator volumes, pressures, and flows of patients requiring critical care.
Performs arterial blood gas studies as well as pulse oximetry, interpretation, and analysis.
Educates patients in collaboration in various clinical situations such as sleep apnea and CPAP machines, proper fitting of mask and headgear, and setting of pressures in concordance to sleep studio requirements.
Sets-up diagnostic nocturnal sleep screens.

**SUMMARY OF POSITION:**
A Graduate or certified Respiratory Therapist who, under medical supervision, delivers respiratory care services to patients in all areas of the hospital according to policies and procedures approved by the Medical Director. These duties are generally performed with only minimal or indirect supervision and must frequently make independent decisions. The therapist must be able to adapt to the particular area assigned and must be able to perform special duties required by the assignment. The therapist may be required to supervise and be responsible for the work of other respiratory care practitioners. The therapist may also be assigned orientation and in-service education responsibilities.

Respiratory Support Technician
This position provides direct and indirect patient care and services in the home, office, and hospital environment in accordance with all governmental, accrediting, and organizational policies and procedures. Utilization of all available resources to ensure a customer receives the appropriate goods and services in the most efficient and patient satisfactory manner possible.
Equipment included, but not limited to, are CPAP, BIPAP, Auto-titration set-ups and downloading.
Job Duties:
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of current Respiratory Programs and HME products and services offered by the company and all applicable governmental regulations.
Effectively convey ideas or written processes and instructions to patients in a polite, informative, and appropriate matter.
Complete all company, insurance, and/or government-provided paperwork timely and entirely. Included, but not limited to; Delivery tickets, safety checklist forms, patient booklet receipts, ABNs, AMAs, equipment-specific instruction/cleaning forms, etc.
Initiate, maintain and perform follow-up calls or visits with patients.
Perform routine preventative maintenance checks and simple repair as required by company policy or manufacturer's guidelines.
Assist with customer equipment problems during business/non-business hours and under emergency situations. Troubleshoot all equipment failures calmly and patiently.
Report equipment hazards and/or product incidents as required in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Retain knowledge of and consistently adhere to procedures for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection control, and hazardous materials handling.
Maintain patient confidentiality and function within the guidelines of HIPAA.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
