Primary Duties:
Assesses the physical, psychosocial, spiritual & cultural dimensions of the patient as well as educational needs and document appropriately. Where applicable, refers to the competency validation documents for population(s) served.
Performs all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including but not limited to: application, operation, monitoring, and management of all equipment and services provided. Service including but not limited to: oxygen, mixed gas, and humidity; monitoring; ventilators (Invasive and Non-invasive); bronchial hygiene; lung expansion; Spirometry testing; EKG machines; Blood Gas Analysis.
Employs principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving and crisis intervention when performing patient care.
Responds, performs, and participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by maintaining the airway, providing oxygen and ventilation via mask, endotracheal tube, or other devices, and performing closed chest cardiac massage.
Facilitates workflow efficiency, monitoring interdepartmental systems and processes, departmental policies and procedures and making recommendations for improvements as needed. Reviews electronic medical records and physician orders throughout work shift.
Qualifications:
Associate degree - Graduate of an AMA accredited program in respiratory care with an AAS Degree or higher.
CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) - NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist or NBRC Registered Pulmonary Function Technician from an accredited Respiratory Care Program is required.
BLS - Basic Life Support required.
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification, required within one year of hire.
NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Certification Program, required within one year of hire.
PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification, required within one year of hire.
Must be registry eligible; some acute experience is preferred.
Preferred education: Bachelor's degree in related healthcare field.
Preferred certification: RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Responsibilities: Under general supervision and medical direction performs respiratory care related procedures. Exercises considerable judgment in accordance with physician's treatment plan and within the scope of departmental policies and procedures. Manages artificial ventilator status as directed by an approved protocol.

Orders to include: diagnosis, ICD -10 code, type and duration of therapy, type and dosage of medication, FI02 and frequency.
Check resident's chart for history, physical and for pertinent information to determine precautions to be observed at bedside.
Observe and chart: pulse, respiration, breath sounds (number and quality), and resident's general appearance, including breathing exercises and teaching and training to residents.
Notify supervisor of all new starts and discontinued residents.Administers proper technical respiratory care procedures. Dispenses proper dosage of medication, acquires and adjusts devices to insure optimal results from therapy. This includes mask, mouthpiece, or Trach equipment for resident's comfort and ease of operation, regulates flow and pressure of equipment. Observes resident's respiratory rate and pattern, pulse, breath sounds, reaction to medication, any difficulty with therapy during and after treatment. Chart and communicate to the resident's nurse any pertinent information. Observe thorough and accurate charting technique.Inspects and tests equipment, disassembles, cleans, reassembles equipment as required. Maintains adequate supply of necessary equipment. Performs administrative duties and record keeping when required. Disposes of equipment properly.Assists in emergency cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as an integral part of the emergency team. Therapist is required to be CPR certified.8. Initiates, administers, evaluates response to, and documents all therapy modalities according to departmental procedure and ordered by a physician including: intermittent positive pressure breathing, hand held nebulizer, chest physical therapy modalities, including percussion, vibration, breathing and cough retraining exercises, deep tracheal suctioning, incentive spirometry, sputum induction.Recognizes resident's adverse reaction to therapy modalities and takes correct action.Documents all resident care services rendered as part of a medical record.Accepts and transcribes verbal orders related to respiratory care procedures.Sets up, maintains and records log entries on all types of oxygen and respiratory supplies and equipment as required.Instructs residents and family members in the rationale and methodology of every respiratory procedure administered to each resident to facilitate resident cooperation, understanding and efficiency of treatment. Job Responsibilities
Adapts staffing and resource allocation to maximize care and minimize problems/complications.
Ensures that equipment and supplies are ordered and maintained to provide all department services.

Maintains and cleans departmental equipment. Assembles and checks equipment for proper functioning. Performs inventory control of department equipment and related supplies restocks as needed. May assist with cleaning rooms between surgical procedures and transporting of patient and/or supplies/specimens.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Performs simple spirometry.Cleans and processes instrumentation between procedures following established protocol. Ensures equipment is functioning properly.Disassembles and reassembles department equipment performing related equipment function checks. Cleans equipment/parts according to established protocols.Obtains and delivers instrumentation/supplies to/from Sterile Processing Department stock area and/or Material Management.Maintains stock levels of supplies including sterile and disposable supplies for designated locations throughout the hospital including but not limited to: The Operating Room Labor & Delivery MedSTAR the Emergency Room etc. Replaces depleted stock to par levels. Places orders to replenish stock.Monitors oxygen tanks throughout all ICUs and the Respiratory Department and replaces as needed. Assists in supplying tanks to others as requested.May be required to answer telephone providing information as requested or relaying/referring the caller to the appropriate personnel.Attends staff meetings and in-services as required. Minimal Qualifications
Education
* High School Diploma or GED required
* Up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training. preferred
Experience
* Six to twelve months of hospital experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
* Requires the ability to read and write; and knowledge of grammar and arithmetic including fractions and decimals.
* May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e. personal computer data terminal on-line printer calculator telephone facsimile copier sterilizing equipment); the preparation comparison or checking of reports records and related data; and basic use of formulas charts tables drawings and knowledge of their application.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $19.35 - USD $29.11 /Hr.
