Responsible for the pulmonary care of critical, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a physician with minimal supervision. Performs patient assessments and institutes respiratory care plans. Performs various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures in all areas of the hospital.
Responsibilities:

Include, but are not limited to:
Emergency (Code Blue and White) response;
Airway management including nasotracheal & endotracheal suctioning;
Delivery of aerosolized drugs;

Airway support device management including BiPAP and CPAP devices;
Oxygen delivery devices and therapeutic monitoring;
Chest film analysis;
Bloodgas collection and analysis;
EKG analysis;
Accurate and complete documentation;
Cleaning and stocking of equipment and supplies as necessary;
Participate in CAP and JC surveys.
RRTs may function as Shift Leader or serve in the capacity of Team Leader
Advanced practice skills may include:
Therapeutic gas management and monitoring, including INO and HeO2;
Pulmonary Function Testing;
Bronchoscopy assist;
Hemodynamic Monitoring;
Waveform analysis;
Nocturnal SpO2 evaluation (Desaturation Studies);

Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating respiratory care to critically ill patients including neonates, pediatric and adult patients in an evidenced-based and family- centered manner during transport
• Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and evaluate respiratory status of critically ill patients, provide therapeutic intervention, emergency interventions and preparation for transport
• Ability to clinically assess and recommend the optimal mode of respiratory support including, but not limited to, various oxygen delivery devices, nebulized therapies, airway adjuncts and non-invasive ventilation
• Establishes and maintains artificial airways during transport
• Assess for and detect changes in the respiratory status of the patient and demonstrate a proactive approach
• Collaborates with other health care team members to problem solve, implement respiratory treatment modalities and interventions to maximize patient outcomes
• Determines appropriate parameters for mechanical ventilation and monitors effectiveness by blood gas analysis, end tidal CO2 monitoring and pulse oximetry
• Performs advanced skills and procedures as indicated
• Assists the transport RN in any medical interventions deemed necessary
• Provide care under the direction of medical control and within the policies, protocols, guidelines and scope of practice as defined by the State of Texas

Respiratory Support Technician
This position provides direct and indirect patient care and services in the home, office, and hospital environment in accordance with all governmental, accrediting, and organizational policies and procedures. Utilization of all available resources to ensure a customer receives the appropriate goods and services in the most efficient and patient satisfactory manner possible.
Equipment included, but not limited to, are CPAP, BIPAP, Auto-titration set-ups and downloading, phototherapy, CPM, apnea monitor training and downloading, nebulizers (both high and low volume), oxygen and portability, overnight oximetry devices, conserving device tests, suction/trach and enteral.
Job Duties:
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of current Respiratory Programs and HME products and services offered by the company and all applicable governmental regulations.
Effectively convey ideas or written processes and instructions to patients in a polite, informative, and appropriate matter.
Identifies need for Pulse Ox testing to recertify or qualify O2 services per insurance regulations.
Complete all company, insurance, and/or government-provided paperwork timely and entirely. Included, but not limited to; Delivery tickets, safety checklist forms, patient booklet receipts, ABNs, AMAs, equipment-specific instruction/cleaning forms, etc.
Initiate, maintain and perform follow-up calls or visits with patients.
Perform routine preventative maintenance checks and simple repair as required by company policy or manufacturer's guidelines.
Assist with customer equipment problems during business/non-business hours and under emergency situations. Troubleshoot all equipment failures calmly and patiently.
Report equipment hazards and/or product incidents as required in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Retain knowledge of and consistently adhere to procedures for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection control, and hazardous materials handling.
Assume on-call responsibilities during non-business hours in accordance with company policy.
Maintain patient confidentiality and function within the guidelines of HIPAA.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Minimum Job Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid and unrestricted driver's license from state of residence.
Construction, general manual labor, military and equipment repair, or maintenance skills would be considered related experience.
