Job Description The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed. This role involves evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients about procedures and equipment.
Responsibilities Conduct physician-prescribed treatments operating various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
Perform chest physiotherapy and promote secretion clearance using appropriate equipment.
Manage suctioning of patients by various methods such as oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal suctioning.
Monitor oximetry and capnography in accordance with policy.
Review patient chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies as per policy.
Assist with respiratory care procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care.
Perform arterial punctures and determine ventilation efficiency; monitor and report test results.
Guarantee proper function of ventilatory equipment through setup, self-testing, and maintenance.
Document and communicate treatment information and patient responses accurately.
Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging, including data entry and error correction.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure Current state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist is required, along with BLS and ACLS certification. Candidates should also have experience in administering respiratory treatments.

As a Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will perform a variety of duties including respiratory therapy, ventilator management, EKGs, and serving on the code team. COMPETENCY: Achieves and maintains advanced level clinical skills necessary to care for critical patients.
PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF WORKLOAD: Performs cardiopulmonary procedures using the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the age of patients (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) served. Goals of the department are attained utilizing a clearly established daily plan of treatments, procedures, clean up and maintenance with cooperation through all shifts regardless of assignments or job title.
DOCUMENTATION: Complete, accurate and timely information is gathered and documented in the department and patient records. Accurate charges and record keeping is done to ensure proper billing.
COMMUNICATION: Verbal and non-verbal age-appropriate communications (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) are open and positive with peers, supervisors, physicians, patients and all outside customers, under stressful and non-stressful circumstances. Patients and co-workers' confidentiality is maintained.
ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY: Clinic environment, equipment, and personal workspace are maintained in a neat and safe manner. Annual safety and other hospital wide educational requirements are met in a timely fashion and clearly documented.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Professional education is advanced through regular participation in internal/external education opportunities in both broad and discipline-specific topics. Completes annual competencies and keeps accurate files in personal portfolio.
SPECIAL PROCEDURES: The Respiratory Care Practitioner has a basic knowledge of related special procedures.
Qualifications
Education:
Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from a program accredited by the Committee On Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC) or accredited by the American Medical Association's Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA).
Experience:

Licensure
Current state Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCPRT) license required.

Assists with the diagnosis and management of patients with cardio pulmonary disorders.
Responsibilities:
* Collaborates with appropriate disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission through discharge in support of the respiratory, medical and nursing plans of care
* Ensures appropriate operations of specialized equipment through the continuous monitoring of the patient condition and all related equipment
* Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases
* Measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is impaired function
* Demonstrates critical thinking and the ability to respond promptly to changes in workload or to make adjustments in assignments as needed to achieve optimal productivity, efficacy and quality patient care
* Demonstrates familiarity with electronic charting
* Establishes and maintain working relations with physicians and other health care personnel
* Performs a variety of tasks
* Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
* Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy or U.S. military equivalent required
* Credentialed as an RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) required
* Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) preferred
* Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Idaho required
* BLS required
* Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advance Life support (PALS) within 6 months of hire
* Ability to communicate well and technical skills to adapt equipment and procedures
* Good customer relations, assessment, and communication skills are necessary for this job
Working Conditions:
* Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs
* Able to be on feet (walking, standing) for at least ten hours of a twelve-hour shift
* Must have correctable visual acuity to read patient reports and monitors
* Exposure to chemical, radiological and biological hazards requiring personal protective
* Must be able to maintain a standing and position
* Typical equipment used in a clinical job
* Must be able to bend, stoop, reach over the head and push equipment
