Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment.
Determine requirements for treatment, such as type, method and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medication and dosages, compatible with physicians' orders.
Monitor patient's responses to therapy such as vital signs, blood gases and blood chemistry changes, and consult and relay information to physician.
Maintain charts that contain patients' pertinent therapy information.
Prepare and administer medication as ordered by the physician.
Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment.
Verify that prescribed medication for one resident is not administered to another.
Immediately notify the Director of Nursing any medication administration discrepancies.
Deliver and maintain optimum resident care and comfort by demonstrating knowledge and skills of current practices.
Promptly respond to call lights and other resident needs.
Make rounds with physicians, as necessary.
Consult with the resident's physician in providing the resident's care, treatment, rehabilitation, etc., as necessary.
Monitor seriously ill residents, as necessary.
Review care plans daily to confirm that appropriate care is being rendered.
Confirm that CNAs are aware of the resident care plans. Verify that the CNAs refer to the resident's care plan prior to administering daily care to the resident.
Explain treatment procedures to patients.
Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment.

Attend in-service education programs in order to meet facility educational requirements.
Be familiar with Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill and Evacuation Procedures and know how to use the information.
Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility records/information.
Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse.
Protect the personal property of the residents of the facility.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Associate Degree, Diploma, or Certification in a Respiratory Therapy Program.
Preferred/Optional: None
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Experience working with mechanical ventilation of patients from neonatal to geriatric.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required:
Respiratory Care Practitioner license awarded by an applicable state AND
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential awarded by the National Board for Respiratory Care,and maintain the active credential per NBRC Guidelines.
If Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential is not current at time of hire, it must be obtained within two years of hire or by 7/1/2022 if hired prior to 6/30/2019.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
For positions treating patients in intensive care units (ICU):
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications awarded by the American Heart Association within one year of hire.
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire. Certified Pulmonary Function Technician (CPFT) and Registered Pulmonary Function Technician (RPFT) awarded by the National Board for Respiratory Care at time of hire.

Respiratory Support Technician
This position provides direct and indirect patient care and services in the home, office, and hospital environment in accordance with all governmental, accrediting, and organizational policies and procedures. Utilization of all available resources to ensure a customer receives the appropriate goods and services in the most efficient and patient satisfactory manner possible.
Equipment included, but not limited to, are CPAP, BIPAP, Auto-titration set-ups and downloading, phototherapy, CPM, apnea monitor training and downloading, nebulizers (both high and low volume), oxygen and portability, overnight oximetry devices, conserving device tests, suction/trach and enteral.
Job Duties:
* Develop and maintain a working knowledge of current Respiratory Programs and HME products and services offered by the company and all applicable governmental regulations.
* Effectively convey ideas or written processes and instructions to patients in a polite, informative, and appropriate matter.
* Identifies need for Pulse Ox testing to recertify or qualify O2 services per insurance regulations.
* Complete all company, insurance, and/or government-provided paperwork timely and entirely. Included, but not limited to; Delivery tickets, safety checklist forms, patient booklet receipts, ABNs, AMAs, equipment-specific instruction/cleaning forms, etc.
* Initiate, maintain and perform follow-up calls or visits with patients.

* Assist with customer equipment problems during business/non-business hours and under emergency situations. Troubleshoot all equipment failures calmly and patiently.
* Report equipment hazards and/or product incidents as required in accordance with company policies and procedures.
* Retain knowledge of and consistently adhere to procedures for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection control, and hazardous materials handling.
* Assume on-call responsibilities during non-business hours in accordance with company policy.
* Maintain patient confidentiality and function within the guidelines of HIPAA.
