In addition to performing the duties of a respiratory therapist as described in the respiratory therapist job description, the Advanced Respiratory Therapist fills a specific role in a specialized area of expertise. Provides advanced assessment, treatment, and monitoring of hospital patients with cardiopulmonary compromise and provides advanced support for the equipment necessary for the care of these patients. Provides diagnostic, therapeutic, critical care and preventative services to patients in the Emergency Department, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Critical Care and may also function as the shift Charge Therapist. Serves as a technical and educational resource for patients and their family members, Respiratory staff, Respiratory students, and other members of the patient care team. Responsible for assessing data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpreting information relative to the patient's age-specific needs. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. Must be flexible to work hospital hours including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Critical Care, ED, Bronchoscopy, and Difficult Airway competencies, in addition to routine hospital respiratory floor competencies required.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy, Associate's degree and a minimum of one year of experience in a respiratory therapy critical care environment, including demonstrated Critical Care, ED, Bronchoscopy, and Difficult Airway competencies, in addition to routine hospital respiratory floor competencies required.
Additional Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years critical care respiratory therapy experience at Mayo Clinic or another healthcare facility with similar patient acuity and complexity preferred.

Inspects and tests equipment to ensure proper operating condition.
Provide instructions to patients and/or caregivers on the proper use of equipment and/or respiratory care procedures via in person or electronic means (Telehealth). Ensures patients and/or caregivers can effectively operate and maintain equipment.
Performs clinical assessments and tests such as pulse oximetry, ETCO2, spirometry and gathering vital signs.
Prepares and maintains a record for each patient containing all pertinent information, care plans, physician prescriptions and follow-up documentation.
Responsible for accurate data entry on monitoring websites for certain respiratory equipment.
Consults with referring physician regarding patient treatment, medical condition, home environment, compliance with treatment and Plan of Care.

Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements; physical abuse of any family member, unsafe home environment for care ordered, unsanitary conditions or animals causing such, or insufficient food for children.

How you'll contribute
The Certified Respiratory Therapist delivers high-quality, evidence-based respiratory care across a range of clinical settings. Mid-Cities is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, detail oriented, and compassionate individual to join our team. The Respiratory Therapist will deliver respiratory therapy equipment, provide patient education and training on proper use and safety, and perform required monthly ventilator checks. This position does not include providing clinical respiratory care services; the role focuses exclusively on equipment delivery, education, and ongoing support to ensure patient confidence and compliance.
The Respiratory Therapist operates independently to schedule and complete monthly visits, offering maximum flexibility and an ideal opportunity to supplement other full-time employment. Patient load is flexible and can be adjusted based on the therapist's available time and schedule.
