Responsibilities:
1. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
2. Administers physician prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, PFTs, ABGs, and all mechanical ventilation.
3. Performs evaluation procedures, both invasive and non-invasive, to determine respiratory care needs, and makes appropriate recommendations based upon department protocols ultimately improving patient outcomes and facilitating patient discharge.
4. Monitors patients requiring mechanical ventilation including clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing to ensure the safety and appropriate care of patients.
5. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood and breath specimens for diagnosis. Measures the patients lung capacity to determine if there are any impairments.
6. Offers diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on the analysis of the patient.
7. Communicates with other health care team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
8. Assures smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, or other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Proficiencies):
Professional competency in the science of Respiratory Care commensurate with the NBRC credential.
Required Experience, Education, Certification(s), License(s):
Graduate of a AMA approved School of Respiratory Care.
Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support/BLS.
Associate's/2-year degree required.
Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (if Certified or not registered by the NBRC, must obtain NBRC registration within 2 years of hire).
Preferred Experience, Education, Degree, Certification(s), License(s):
ACLS and/or NALS preferred.
Prior experience preferred.

About the position

7. Identifies problems and develops a complete plan of care according to facility/unit policy and federal/state regulations.
8. Maintains written evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries of individuals receiving respiratory treatment and monitoring according to state, federal, and facility policies.
9. Maintains documentation regarding the administration of medications and other required records.
10. Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with the approved respiratory techniques.

The Respiratory Therapist will assist, treat & care for residents with breathing disorders. Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory modalities in accordance with current facility, federal, state and local standards, guidelines & regulations. Position Responsibilities:
Verify all physician orders for respiratory care. and provide age and developmental-appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults.
Assess patients clinically and evaluate for appropriateness of therapy.
Provide aerosolized medication therapy, provide airway clearance therapies, airway management such as trach changes, tube taping, suctioning, medical gas therapy., ventilator setup and management., perform non-invasive monitoring, i.e., pulse oximetry, transcutaneous O2/CO2 and end-tidal CO2 monitoring, assist with in-house and inter-facility transports.
Provide emergency respiratory care, i.e., airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, perform arterial blood gas sampling, point of care testing and electrocardiograms., participate in airway management during bronchoscopies.
Document care provided, patient assessment and patient care orders in electronic medical record (EMR) or hard copy when necessary. Enter charges in EMR
Participate in discharge planning and home-care education by training patients, their families, and designated care providers.
Provide recommendations and education to physicians and nurses regarding respiratory care.
Participate in the evaluation or respiratory care equipment and procedures and maintain current knowledge about departmental policies and procedures.
Position Requirements:
Graduated a COAARC Approved Respiratory Care Program
DE State License, NBRC-RRT, and BLS-HCP required, AARC membership, PALS within 90 days of hire.
Preferred - NRP, NBRC-NPS, NBRC-CPFT, NBRC-RPFT, NBRC-SDS, AEC, and ACLS
