Job Overview:
A respiratory therapist is responsible for the care, evaluation and tests of the patients suffering from complications related to the breathing system.Respiratory therapists practice under the able guidance of expert physicians and should ensure that all respiratory care, starting from diagnosis to therapeutic treatment is properly carried out.

Essential Functions:
• Administer aerosol medication, Chest PT and related therapies including medical gas therapy per physician orders or approved protocols. Perform rounds on all assigned patients to deliver appropriate care.
• Assess and interpret patient status using Laboratory and Radiology results along with vital signs and other assessments to identify and provide appropriate care based on the specific needs identified. Evaluate therapy orders for completeness, appropriateness, quality and effectiveness using Evidence-Based Practice Guidelines. Recommend changes in the care plan based on assessments and guidelines.
• Correctly complete all patient records and documentation according to Department policy including patient assessment, plan of care, E-MAR, patient education and performance improvement fields. Rarely leaves Overdue Tasks.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of Oxygen Therapy, BiPAP, CPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannulas (HFNC) for use in primary assignment area (i.e. neonate, infant, pediatric and adult) patient populations. Knowledge and skill includes device and interface selection, application, operational verification and modes of therapy. Assess effectiveness of therapy. Report any adverse reaction or side effects such as skin irritation.
• Demonstrate Knowledge and skill in the use of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation in primary assignment area (i.e. neonate, infant, pediatric and adult) patient populations. Knowledge and skill includes device and interface selection, application, operational verification, troubleshooting, and modes of therapy. Assess effectiveness of therapy three times per shift. Report any adverse reactions or side effects such as skin irritation.
• Comply with all Department, Infection Prevention, and Safety policies and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of National Patient Safety Goals and relevant Standards from Joint Commission, Department of Health, CMS and other regulatory bodies.
• Determine priorities and organizes work and time to meet them. Demonstrate the ability to function in a diverse workforce. Interact tactfully, constructively and diplomatically with others.
• Perform emergency airway care procedures and maintain patient ventilation during emergent situations. As ordered and if certified, establish, maintain and obtain samples from arterial lines. Perform arterial punctures to obtain arterial samples. Analyze arterial, capillary, and venous blood samples.
• Complete all mandatory Competencies within specified timeframe. Complete all Healthstream online training within specified timeframe.
• Attend external and internal educational programs as part of continuing education.

1. Assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of all patients with pulmonary disorders in both critical and non-critical areas pursuant to a prescription of a licensed physician.
2. Performs cardiopulmonary evaluation, monitoring, respiratory therapy treatment techniques, respiratory procedures and patients and family education.
3. Responsible for the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of data obtained from physiological specimens, performing diagnostic tests, studies and research of the cardiopulmonary system and neurophysiological studies related to respiratory care.
4. Administers and/or monitors medical gases, mechanical ventilation support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation related and limited to respiratory care.
5. Utilizes the application of scientific principles for the identification, prevention, remediation, research, and rehabilitation of acute or chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
6. Administers therapeutic Respiratory Care procedures and sets up related Respiratory Care equipment as prescribed by the physician.
7. Records all pertinent information of provided therapeutic procedures and patient response in the electronic medical record system, EPIC.
8. Sets up, verifies proper function, operates and monitors all invasive and non-invasive respiratory equipment on patients in need of respiratory assistance.
9. Participates in the management of patients on life support systems by recommending and performing appropriate changes based on blood gas results and weaning studies.
10. Responds to and participates in all emergency and trauma codes.
11. Oversees the clinical performance of Certified Respiratory Care Technicians to assure clinical compliance to department policies and procedures.
12. Changes and maintains ventilators, ventilator circuits in accordance with the Infection Control Policy of the Department Policy and Procedure Manual.
13. Runs quality controls on blood gas analyzers.
14. Monitors and changes all manifolds, including but not limited to emergency oxygen, nitrous oxide and nitrogen manifold cylinders.
15. Retrieves, cleans and assembles all respiratory equipment using disinfecting solutions and cleaning agents in accordance with infection control protocols.
16. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, and primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
17. Lifts a minimum of 35 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 165 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
18. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational competencies.
19. Performs other work as requested by the Director or his/her designee.

About the position

Looking for a Respiratory Therapist with 3 years of clinical research coordinator experience to work at site with our clinical team. Performs and interprets spirometry tests, which measure lung capacity and airflow. They are responsible for preparing patients, operating the spirometry equipment, and recording and reporting results.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performing Spirometry Tests:
Conducting spirometry tests according to established standards, such as those set by the DM Clinical.
Equipment Maintenance:
Ensuring the spirometry equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
Patient Preparation and Education:
Explaining the procedure to patients, ensuring their comfort, and guiding them through the test.
Result Interpretation:
Analyzing and interpreting spirometry results, including FVC, FEV1 and FEV1/FVC ratios.
Record Keeping:
Accurately documenting and inputting test results into electronic medical records.
Communication:
Communicating findings to respiratory therapists, physicians, or other relevant healthcare professionals.
Completing all the relevant training prior to study-start and on a continued basis in a timely manner. This will include but is not limited to:
Sponsor-provided and IRB-approved Protocol Training
All relevant Protocol Amendments Training
Any study-specific Manuals Training, as applicable
Sponsor-specified EDC and/or IVRS and any other relevant Electronic Systems training.
Conducting and overseeing study subject visits, and all other relevant protocol-required procedures and documenting these in a timely manner.
Adherence to ALCOA-C Standards with all the relevant clinical trial documentation.
Completing and overseeing data entry and query resolution in a timely manner as per internal company guidelines and as per sponsor expectations.
Demonstration of appropriate and timely follow-up on the action items, at their respective sites.
Demonstrated understanding, implementation and supervision of protocol-specified laboratory procedures, storage, temperature monitoring, equipment calibration, and laboratory kit inventory for assigned protocols.
Liaising with the Laboratory team, Data team, Administrative staff, Clinical Investigators, Research Participants and Sponsor/CRO representatives for assigned protocols.
Maintaining a working knowledge of current FDA regulations, ICH-GCP guidelines, all the organizational SOPs, all the guidance documents, and assigned study protocol(s)
Maintaining a working knowledge of the recruitment and retention process for their assigned protocol(s) at their respective site(s).
Ability to train and mentor site staff, as needed
Supervise visit preparedness for all the relevant sponsor and CRO visits for their assigned protocol(s)
Demonstration of appropriate and timely follow-up on the action items, at their respective sites.
Maintaining a working knowledge of the most recent versions of the Study Protocols, Informed consents, Study Manuals, and all the other relevant study-related documents that are utilized and implemented for the assigned protocols at their respective site(s).
Maintaining a working knowledge of Study Participants' Scheduling, Visit Tracking, Stipends and Transportation by liaising with the Administrative team.
Maintaining a working knowledge of the Essential Clinical Trial Documents and maintenance of the Investigator Site Binders for their assigned protocol(s) at their respective site(s)
Oversee reporting of all Adverse and Serious Adverse Events and any other relevant Safety Information to the appropriate authorities per internal company guidelines, Sponsor, IRB, and ICH-GCP Guidelines.
Striving to meet Sponsor subject enrollment goals for their assigned protocols at their respective site(s).
Being prepared for and available at all required company meetings.
Submitting required administrative paperwork per company timelines.
Occasionally attending out-of-town Investigator Meetings
Conduct patient consent discussions and ensure comprehension of medical procedures, risks, benefits, and alternatives
Provide clear explanations of study protocols and ensure patients' understanding before obtaining their consent
Facilitate effective communication between patients, healthcare providers, and research staff
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor's degree preferred
Foreign Medical Graduates preferred
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years experience in Clinical Research
Minimum of 3years experience in Spirometry
Regulatory research experience is a plus
Credentials:
ACRP or equivalent certification is preferred
