Provides in-house transport of mechanically ventilated and other high-risk patients. 11. Provides non-traditional therapies, e.g. Veletri administration, as ordered. 12. Provides resuscitation and support services at all high-risk deliveries. 13. Monitors effectiveness of therapy using non-invasive techniques such as pulse oximetry, end tidal CO2 in addition to invasive techniques such as arterial blood gas sampling. 16 Assists in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation as part of Code Team primarily providing airway management and manual resuscitation. 17. Documents therapy, patient assessment, and interventions performed and test results in the progress notes of the medical record in a concise, accurate, and thorough manner. 18. Transcribe a detailed shift note for all patient's cared for during the shift. 19. Responsible for acknowledging the proper assembly of all respiratory therapy equipment prior to and during patient use. 20. Performs daily rounds and fairly bills patients for services rendered. Attend rounds daily with the intensive care unit critical care team and is an active participant in the patient's care. 21. Assists with development of in-service programs for departmental personnel. 22. Assists the clinical educator with orientation of new employees. May be asked to accompany the critically ill patient on transfer. * Assesses patient's learning needs and provides education of respiratory care procedures to patient and family. * Provides consultation services and teaching to other health care providers involved in the care of the patient. * Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and quality control procedures on pulmonary function, oximetry, blood gas analysis, and other biomedical equipment. * Submits billing information through the clinical computer system. * Completes necessary multi-disciplinary documentation of all pertinent observations related to patient care, treatments administered, and patient's responses to treatment. Maintains appropriate department records. * Attends and participates in internal and external educational meetings to maintain and enhance clinical competencies staff meetings, Basic Cardiac Life Support training, intubation training, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training, Pediatric Advanced Life Support training and conferences as scheduled. * Performs all other duties as assigned by the Respiratory Coordinator of the Respiratory Care Department. Qualifications Required: * Current license by the MA Board of Respiratory Care * RRT - Registration by the N.B.R.C. * ACLS course completion (Required during 1st 3-6 months of orientation) * 2 years of respiratory therapy experience Preferred: * A.S. / B.S. in Respiratory Care * CPFT / RPFT - Certification / Registration by the N.B.R.C KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: * Demonstrated analytical abilities and sound judgment for the interpretation of data, formulation of appropriate treatment plans, communication and implementation of treatment plans, and documentation of pertinent patient information. * Demonstrated interpersonal skills, communication skills, and proper temperament to interact with other providers, a multidisciplinary team, and critically ill patients under sometimes stressful circumstances. * Fully competent in all aspects of their job description; Successfully completed the Respiratory Care Department competencies and the designated probationary period. * Demonstrated mastery of most clinical skills and ability to focus on improving other skills as necessary; skills include assessment skills and the active assessment of respiratory therapies needed and procedures according to the respiratory protocols. PATIENT CONTACT: Yes SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: * Works in patient care environments. * May be required to stand immobile for long periods of time. * Frequent exposure to communicable diseases. * Frequent exposure to secretions/excretions, unpleasant odors. * Frequent exposure to aerosolized medications * Works a variety of shifts to include all hours when patients are in the Institute. Generally, working hours include day/evening variable (including weekends) * Works any Holiday for which the Institute is opened for patient care. * Holiday and weekend staffing rotation is determined by the Respiratory Coordinator. * Holiday and weekend on-call rotation is determined by the Respiratory Coordinator. * All scheduling is the responsibility of the Respiratory Coordinator. * Work may require prolonged walking, standing, and occasional running. * Work may include transport of heavy equipment and gas cylinders.
