5. CATH LAB SPECIFIC: Operates a wide variety of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Continuously monitors patient and response and makes appropriate suggestions to the cardiologist and/or angiographer. Assists the cardiologist and/or angiographer during the performance of cardiac catheterization with and without angioplasty. Understands all technical aspects of Cardiac Catheterization and Primary Cardiac Angioplasty.
6. SLEEP LAB SPECIFIC: Under the general supervision of the Sleep Medical Director perform various in and out of lab sleep testing to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Knowledge and understanding of indications and contraindications for noninvasive ventilation and oxygen therapy. Educate patients as needed on sleep disease processes and current therapies that are being utilized. Coordinates quality assurance data collection and other daily processes including a variety of duties to support the operations of the department. Able to perform the duties defined for a sleep technician and able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff as needed.

EDUCATION
Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy, NBRC approved college or equivalent required, B.S. preferred. Four weeks training in Cardiac Catheterization and Primary Angioplasty and 6 months on-the-job training, two years of sleep lab experience. Ongoing education in the field of sleep medicine and continuing education units annually as defined by the AASM for technologists in an accredited sleep program; must additionally meet all BRPT and AASM educational requirements. Ongoing education and continuing education units to maintain CPFT/RPFT credential. Ongoing education with specialized bronchoscopy procedures.
EXPERIENCE
One year in-hospital clinical practice experience. One year in sub-specialty area (Cardiac Catheterization, Pulmonary Lab Sleep Lab, Bronchoscopy)

Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy. Basic Life Support Certificate by American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate by American Heart Association. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care program. Must provide a copy of diploma or transcript upon hire.
The candidate must hold the credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care and a current license from the State of Connecticut to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
A candidate with a CRT credential must obtain the RRT credential from the NBRC within 12 months of employment.
The candidate will hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and maintain certification as required by the organization.
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider (NRP) or Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are desirable but not required.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner Level I (RCP I) is a healthcare professional who is a graduate of an AMA-Approved Program in Respiratory Care, is licensed by the State of Connecticut as an RCP and is recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). The RCP performs a variety of clinical activities in the assessment, treatment, and education of the patient with respiratory problems. Under medical direction, an RCP is accountable to comply with departmental policies, guidelines, accepted respiratory care practices, as well as assumes responsibility and accountability for recommending and coordinating respiratory care to patients. Essential duties and responsibilities are described herein and include other duties as assigned. The successful completion of these duties will be assessed by the department supervisors, coordinator and/or manager. While being a part of the Bridgeport Hospital Respiratory Therapy team it is expected that therapists commit to the practices and behaviors outlined in Safety Starts with Me (HRO) and the Respiratory Therapy Department Standards of Performance.

Responsibilities
1. Clinical Application of Respiratory Care: Functions efficiently, resourcefully and skillfully in providing patients optimum age-specific respiratory care.
1.1 Assesses patient's pulmonary status employing basic and advanced skills, which include reviewing the medical chart, patient interview, physical examination, and interpretation of blood gases. Demonstrates proficiency and consistency with all assessment skills.
2. Documentation and Written Communications: Contributes to effective communications within the department through documentation of services administered, changes in patient's clinical status and therapeutic objectives.
2.1 Accurately, records all care provided via electronic medical record (EMR). Identifies patient on written documents by using the medical record number (MRN) and patient labels as required by department and hospital policy. Maintains patient confidentiality with documentation practices.
3. Consultation, Collaboration, and Communication: Communicates clearly and appropriately with co-workers. Demonstrates a cooperative team spirit and leadership, effectively contributing to excellence of patient care.
3.1 Patient report information is appropriate and conveys current patient status. Uses best practice when giving report and attentively and courteously accepts report in order to facilitate transition from one shift to the next. Accurately, completely and concisely conveys all relevant clinical information on patient's clinical course and status with report.
4. Self Development, Professionalism and Leadership: Assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical expertise through continuing education, professional growth, and development. Functions as charge therapist, upon request, in absence of shift supervisor.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Associates of Science degree and certificate of completion of an AMA-Approved Respiratory Care Program and current license by the State of Connecticut as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum one-year acute care experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner preferred. Potential Candidate must meet mandatory probationary time to advance in career ladder progression.

Provides respiratory care according to established plan of care, including complex treatments, procedures and assessments requiring professional judgment and initiative, as well as routine respiratory therapy.
