Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Department: Respiratory Therapy Hours Per Week: 37.5 Schedule: 12 hour night shift, 7p-7a; every other weekend rotation Sign-On Bonus: up to $15,000
Assists the Director of Respiratory Services and other hospital personnel in assuring continuity of quality respiratory care. The therapist is called on to use their knowledge to assess patients and assists in developing appropriate care plans. Respiratory staff will address adverse reactions to therapy or medications. Staff will address all patient respiratory needs including respiratory distress or failure and utilize skills, initiative and independent judgement to assist in critical situations. Authorized to accept verbal and telephone orders from physicians for respiratory care. Responsible to assure that quality respiratory care is delivered to all patients as per orders and/or schedule. Staff performs all aspects of Respiratory Care in accordance to department policies and procedures. Respiratory staff may be required to go on patient transports, in house, as well as, to other facilities. Staff may plan and provide Respiratory Care in-service programs to hospital staff as needed. Staff must be flexible with their schedule and may be required to work variable shifts, weekends and holidays. Respiratory staff adheres to the professional standards of the National Board for Respiratory Care, the New York State Education Department, and Canton Potsdam Hospital.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Planning: Partners with the Respiratory Director to align operational goals with organizational strategic plans by maintaining awareness of internal and external factors impacting success.
Operational Performance: Supports development and monitoring of operational objectives and metrics, communicates performance outcomes, and identifies improvement opportunities.
Quality & Safety Improvement: Implements evidence-based quality indicators, continuous improvement processes, and safety risk mitigation strategies; provides training on quality methodologies and goals.
Financial & Resource Management: Assists in managing operations to meet financial standards, reduce waste, and ensure safety and efficiency using IT systems and interdepartmental collaboration.
Customer Service Excellence: Delivers exceptional service by prioritizing the needs of patients, physicians, and staff in all operational decisions and initiatives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of American Medical Association approved two year Respiratory school or equivalent.
Current NYS Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Technician license from NYS Department of Education.
Registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care or equivalent.
Current AHA BLS certification at hire.
AHA ACLS, PALS and NRP must be obtained within 3 months of hire
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor degree in Respiratory Care, RPFT qualification, CCRP certification
Clinical experience in general respiratory therapies, critical and emergent respiratory therapies as one would receive in an approved two year school or equivalent.

Position Summary:

Responds to cardiac arrest and Rapid Response situations. Performs CPR.

Education & Experience Requirements
Must be a graduate of an approved program of Respiratory Therapy.
Must hold a current and valid New York State Respiratory Therapy license. Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Must hold a current BLS/CPR certification.

Respiratory Therapist (RT) - Position Overview:
Respiratory Therapist team members assist with ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by carrying out skilled respiratory therapy treatments.
At Elderwood at Williamsville, we are seeking kind collaborative and dedicated Respiratory Therapists (RTs) to join our clinical network.
Responsibilities
Screens and provide an in-depth evaluation of the needs of ventilator and respiratory clients.
Consult with the attending physician regarding treatment protocol. Make written recommendations for interdisciplinary care planning and treatment.
Inform residents or qualified representative about care and treatment plan and possible
outcomes of treatment, or lack of treatment if resident refuses participation in a respiratory rehabilitation program.
Identify problems and develop a complete plan of care according to facility/unit policy and
federal/state regulations. Initiate ventilator weaning protocol and/or respiratory rehabilitation in accordance with the physician's orders; maintain required contact with physician.
Maintain written records, evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries of residents
receiving respiratory treatment and monitoring according to state, federal, and facility policies.
Attend, as necessary, and provide input at the Resident Care Planning (RCP) meetings for interdisciplinary
team and the Resident/Family Care Plan Review Meeting; complete required documentation after the meetings.
Record resident's plan of care in the Interdisciplinary Care Plan as required or as needed.
Contribute to the completion of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) within the established time frame
and incorporate the results in the plan of care when appropriate.
Confer with personnel of other departments and provide required training to meet special needs
of residents.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited AMA approved school of Respiratory Therapy preferred
New York State Licensed Respiratory Therapist. Registered or Certified Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory Care.
Previous experience with ventilator dependent residents preferred.
Interest in respiratory therapy treatment program for chronic ventilator, ventilator weaning, and respiratory rehabilitation population.
Ability to verbally communicate well with residents, families, and staff members.
Ability to read and understand task assignments, ability to report verbally and provide written documentation as required.
Display of genuine concern for the elderly; a dependable, patient and compassionate attitude towards residents. Display a demeanor which is always respectful of residents' rights and wishes.
Ability to cooperate and maintain respectful treatment with others. Display a sense of responsibility, maturity, diplomacy, and ability to work well with residents, families, and other staff members.

This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors.
