Position Summary:
· Provides evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
· Assesses patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on diagnosis.
· Implements and monitors patient care plan. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition. Performs advanced respiratory care modalities.
· Evaluates respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
· Educates the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
· Assesses patient's conditions in order to identify the most appropriate mode of therapy.
· Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of therapy, suggesting alternatives when appropriate.
· Maintains infection control policies related to patient care.
· Understands and demonstrates competency on all equipment utilized.
· Performs baseline pulmonary function screening and weaning parameters.
· Understands and safely administers medications related to respiratory diseases.
· Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Public Health obtained prior to start date.
Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Completion of a Respiratory Care Program.
1 year of experience preferred. Will consider new graduate.

Responsibilities
1. Able to perform a wide variety of complex clinical and technical tasks according to the standards set forth in the Departmental Procedure manual.
2. Maintains complete and timely documentation in all job aspects, including all facets of the medical record and all departmental statistical records. 3. Maintains an accurate and current awareness of all departmental and hospital policies and procedures as evidenced in clinical competencies, attendance at departmental in-services, review and compliance with all communication sheet entries, announcements and memoranda pertinent to the operation of the department.
4. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures
5. CATH LAB SPECIFIC: Operates a wide variety of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Continuously monitors patient and response and makes appropriate suggestions to the cardiologist and/or angiographer. Assists the cardiologist and/or angiographer during the performance of cardiac catheterization with and without angioplasty. Understands all technical aspects of Cardiac Catheterization and Primary Cardiac Angioplasty.
6. SLEEP LAB SPECIFIC: Under the general supervision of the Sleep Medical Director perform various in and out of lab sleep testing to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Knowledge and understanding of indications and contraindications for noninvasive ventilation and oxygen therapy. Educate patients as needed on sleep disease processes and current therapies that are being utilized. Coordinates quality assurance data collection and other daily processes including a variety of duties to support the operations of the department. Able to perform the duties defined for a sleep technician and able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy, NBRC approved college or equivalent required, B.S. preferred. Four weeks training in Cardiac Catheterization and Primary Angioplasty and 6 months on-the-job training, two years of sleep lab experience. Ongoing education in the field of sleep medicine and continuing education units annually as defined by the AASM for technologists in an accredited sleep program; must additionally meet all BRPT and AASM educational requirements. Ongoing education and continuing education units to maintain CPFT/RPFT credential. Ongoing education with specialized bronchoscopy procedures.
EXPERIENCE
One year in-hospital clinical practice experience. One year in sub-specialty area (Cardiac Catheterization, Pulmonary Lab Sleep Lab, Bronchoscopy)
LICENSURE
Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy. Basic Life Support Certificate by American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certificate by American Heart Association. Licensed by the State of Connecticut in Respiratory Therapy. Certification in Arterial Blood Gas Sampling. Registered in Cardiac Invasive Specialties by Cardiac Credentialing International (RCIS - CCI) preferred. For Sleep Lab, Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification required through the BRPT (Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists). Position Summary:

Education & Experience Requirements
Must be a graduate of an approved program of Respiratory Therapy.

Basic Qualifications
21 years of age or older
Must be eligible to work in the United States and not require work authorization from us now or in the future
Valid US driver's license with no more than 2 moving violations or at fault accidents within the last 3 years
Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)-accredited respiratory therapy degree program with associate degree (AS, AAS) or a bachelor's degree (BS) and appropriate licensure.
Must be currently licensed and in good standing with the Licensure Board of Registration of the state of practice
Must possess RRT, RCP, CRTT credentials
Valid state (s) Respiratory Care license

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Assesses & delivers care/interventions to patients in non-critical care areas within policy with consideration to patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. Performs computer entry, verifies physician orders, and documents pertinent clinical information. Provides accurate documentation in the medical record according to policy. Provides care effectively to patients in critical care areas. Provides mechanical ventilation, invasive/non-invasive, while monitoring & measuring patient parameters. Attends to ventilator maintenance & setting changes, monitoring patient response to setting changes. Performs computer entry, verifies physician orders, and documents pertinent clinical information. Provides accurate documentation in the medical record according to policy.
