What you will do:
Provide respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by physicians according hospital policy and procedures

Communicate to patient and family the treatment being performed in a clear manner
Monitor patient physiological response to therapy with special attention to the pediatric and neonatal patients

Graduation from a nationally accredited Respiratory Therapy program, as determined by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or proof of registry eligible status

Currently enrolled in a Master's degree program related to Respiratory Therapy or a relevant healthcare field with an anticipated completion date within 6 months.
Advanced credential:
NBRC Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS) credential (Adults).
NBRC Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (NPS) credential (Neonatal/Pediatrics).
NBRC Registered Pulmonary Function Testing Technologist (RPFT) credential (PFT/Diagnostics)
In PFT/Diagnostics, attain or become an Asthma Certified Educator (AE-C) or Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS), or an active board member to a national respiratory care organization within one year after hire.

9. Performs advanced competencies in area of specialty.
10. Documents work timely, completely, and accurately, including documentation in the patient medical record, documentation in the department records, and patient billing. Verifies medical record reporting as accurate and complete for patients tested on that day
11. Assesses patient oxygenation, ventilation, and hemodynamic status through clinical observation, patient assessment, physiologic monitoring, including oximetry, capnography, ventilator waveform analysis, and cardiac output, ECG, and laboratory values.
12. Demonstrate initiative in optimizing patient care by participating in physician rounds and documenting assessment findings and therapy changes.
13. Provide patient/family education and disease management as requested.
14. Performs bronchoscopy assist; bedside in Adult RC and Bronch Suite in PFT/Diagnostics.
15. Assists in the development and completion of annual staff competencies.
16. Conducts assigned staff performance evaluations promptly.
17. Participates in CQI and QA initiatives, including work audits and committee participation.
18. Engagement in the pursuit of excellence, i.e., committee participation, CQI and QA initiatives, abstracts, research, Daily Management System (DMS) projects, or other activities to improve the clinical and work environments
19. Provides input on staff performance to department management
20. Leads committees as assigned; chair one department committee and/or serve on a hospital committee.
21. Actively engaged in improving Employee Engagement.
22. Coordinate and monitor research activities as assigned.
23. Demonstrate professionalism by belonging to the AARC / ISRC and continuing education in management, research, or education.

Job Summary
* Responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered per physician, monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, understanding ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring, understanding blood work results, monitoring, teaching, and training. The Seasonal Staffing program provides a temporary opportunity for the employee to work a minimum of 36 hours (typically 3-12-hour shifts) per week for a 12-week commitment period at a Seasonal Agreement rate of pay. Once the initial commitment period has exhausted the employee can extend the agreement up to an additional 12 weeks in 4-week increments. The employee's status during this period will be Per Diem and ineligible for benefits. At the end of the Seasonal Agreement the employee may has the option, based on current job openings, to change status to full-time, part-time, or per diem. The employee may be required to float between units.
Essential Functions
* Competent delivery of Respiratory Care procedures in all areas of the hospital as outlined in the Respiratory Care policies, procedures and protocols
* Maintain accurate and complete documentation and charge capture of all Respiratory Care procedures
* Develop, document and maintain respiratory care elements of the patient plan of care.
* Verify and initiate all physician orders for Respiratory Care
* Demonstrate competency and working knowledge of all Respiratory Care instruments and equipment
* Perform troubleshooting, problem resolution and proper disinfection/sterilization
* Initiate, monitor and maintain oxygen/aerosol delivery devices and non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation devices
* Perform effective airway management including oral/nasal airway placement, bag/mask ventilation, intubation and/or intubation assistance, emergent and scheduled tracheostomy tube changes
* Demonstrate safe and appropriate suction techniques and use of artificial airways. Initiate and perform 'CPR'
* Perform tracheostomy, endotracheal tube and oral care
* Implement one way speaking valve trials per physician order
* Assist physician with diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures
* Complete initial and ongoing decannulation risk assessments with appropriate interventions and documentation
* Perform and document timely Spontaneous Breathing Trial assessments for weaning readiness
* Initiate and advance mechanical ventilator weaning per protocol
* Actively participate in the multidisciplinary early patient mobility program
* Perform pulse oximetry and carbon dioxide gas monitoring
* Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and analysis
* Perform and document ongoing ABG analyzer quality control and maintenance as required
* Perform and document patient and family teaching/education
* Provide and receive accurate and complete patient handoff reports
* Participate in department/hospital in-services, meetings, and patient care rounds

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a Center on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited program in respiratory care. Minimal requirement: Associate Degree.
Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Illinois, active and in good standing.
Active CRT (certified respiratory therapist) Credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC.)
Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, accepting of change, demonstrate adaptability.
Must possess the skills and judgement necessary to implement medical plan of care, clinical interventions and procedures as needed for the patient.
Required within 90 days of hire:
Active RRT (registered respiratory therapist) certification from National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC.)
Required within 1 year of hire:
PALS/ NRP/ ACLS certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:
Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS) credential by the NBRC.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Respiratory Care or a biological science.
Previous neonatal and pediatric critical care experience.

General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the shift supervisor, coordinator, or charge therapist, the respiratory therapist registered provides respiratory care therapeutics and emergency resuscitation services. Critical care and routine respiratory procedures are administered. The therapist serves as a resource for physicians, nurses, and ancillary hospital staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Performs respiratory therapy treatments.
* Assist physicians and nursing in the development of respiratory care plans.
* Assesses patients for home respiratory care.
* Acts as a resource to patients and hospital personnel.
* Evaluate, initiate, monitor, and discontinue appropriate gas aerosol therapy, periodic therapy/treatments, invasive, non-invasive monitoring procedures, and ventilator management procedures, and provide recommendations following department policies and procedures.
* Provide support and expertise during intubation, extubating, and resuscitation.
* Assure equipment's operational status.
* Evaluate, initiate, monitor, and discontinue non-routine testing (i.e., sleep apnea test, CO2 monitoring, etc.).
* Perform shunt studies, pulmonary function screenings, and dead space/ventilation measurements.
* Checks and assures readiness of emergency carts.
* Maintains competency in basic dysrhythmia.
* Generate reports as directed by Respiratory Care Management.
* Notify supervisor/coordinator or charge therapist of any deviation from documented procedures.
* Assist in stocking and maintaining disposable supplies.
* Assist with inventory for damage, expired dates, or breaks in sterility.
* Maintains inventory and rental paperwork.
* Documents equipment decontamination.
* Reports malfunctions, damage, or deviations of equipment.
* Notifies direct supervision of hazardous, situations with supplies and equipment.
* Collaborates with peers and staff to identify any safety issues.
* Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Illinois
* Registered Respiratory Therapist, NBRC credential
* Certified Pulmonary Function Technician, NRBC credential preferred
* Two years of respiratory care experience preferred.
* CPR certification is required.
* ACLS and/or PALS certification preferred

Checks records, supplies and stock daily; maintains clean/sterile equipment; checks working conditions or equipment to insure safe usage.
May participate in the clinical instruction of new respiratory practitioners and respiratory students, as assigned.
Participates in the Risk Management and Infection Control programs of the department and Hospital.
