Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Certified Respiratory Therapist for a 8-week travel assignment in Omaha, Nebraska. Required Qualifications:
One year of recent experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the NBRC
Valid respiratory therapy license in compliance with state regulations
Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications:
ACLS or PALS certification (AHA/ARC)
Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary:
A Certified Respiratory Therapist delivers respiratory interventions and support for patients with acute respiratory problems, as well as routine care for chronic respiratory disorders. They assist in the treatment and management of patients with common pulmonary conditions, such as asthma, COPD, and pneumonia. CRTs administer respiratory treatments, monitor equipment, and educate patients and families on the proper usage of respiratory therapies and devices.
Essential Work Functions:
Assist in implementing and adjusting patient treatment plans under the guidance of physicians or RRTs
Examine and interview patients with breathing and/or cardiopulmonary disorders
Perform diagnostics tests, such as measuring lung capacity or collecting blood/sputum samples
Administer respiratory treatments, including aerosol medications and oxygen therapy
Set up and monitor equipment to ensure the patient is receiving the correct amount of oxygen at the correct rate
Observe and record patient status and progress
Educate patients and/or family members on how to properly take medication and use equipment
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of CRT practice
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
Sensory - Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate

A Brief Overview
Provides appropriate respiratory care specific to the pediatric population in accordance with the hospital policy/procedure. Assesses, plans and implements appropriate respiratory plan of care based on the cardiopulmonary needs of the patients. Evaluates effectiveness of plan of care and recommends revisions to the multidisciplinary care team
Essential Functions
Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment.
Determine requirements for treatment, such as type, methods and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medication and dosages, compatible with physician's orders.
Read physicians' orders, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient's condition.
Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.
Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs, arterial blood gases and blood chemistry changes and consult with physician if adverse reactions occur.
Administer therapeutic gases including nitrogen, nitric oxide, heliox, etc.
Enforce safety rules and ensure careful adherence to physicians' orders.
Maintain charts that contain patient pertinent identification and therapy information.
Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently and notify manager/supervisor when repairs are necessary.
Educate patients and/or their families about the patient's condition and teach appropriate disease management techniques such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment.
Perform broncho-pulmonary drainage and assist or instruct patients in performance of breathing exercises.
Conduct lung capacity tests to evaluate patient's cardiopulmonary functions.
Provide emergency care, including artificial respiration, external cardiac massage and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Complete all required respiratory therapy competency tests within specified timeline.
Demonstrate competency in identified technical skills for the respiratory department at the specific work area.
Other duties may also include Clinical Instructor (schedule dependent on the contract with Respiratory Therapy schools):
Supervise contracted Respiratory Therapy (RT) students from specified schools in the clinical hospital setting.
Orients RT students to their role in the hospital, which includes scope of service, policies and procedures, patient safety, and professionalism.
Orients RT students to the equipment used by RT at Children's.
Provides opportunities for directly supervised hands on learning in the clinical setting.
Responsible for accurate completion and documentation of all Respiratory Therapy performed with RT students.
Responsible for accurate “Hand off” of patient information and ordered Respiratory Therapy performed with RT students.
Education Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited AMA approved school of respiratory care accredited by the National Board of Respiratory Care Required and
Bachelor's Degree From an AMA approved accredited school in respiratory care Preferred

A Brief Overview
Provides appropriate respiratory care specific to the pediatric population in accordance with the hospital policy/procedure. Essential Functions
• Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment. • Determine requirements for treatment, such as type, methods and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medication and dosages, compatible with physician's orders. • Read physicians' orders, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient's condition. • Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears. • Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs, arterial blood gases and blood chemistry changes and consult with physician if adverse reactions occur. • Administer therapeutic gases including nitrogen, nitric oxide, heliox, etc. • Enforce safety rules and ensure careful adherence to physicians' orders. • Maintain charts that contain patient pertinent identification and therapy information. • Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently and notify manager/supervisor when repairs are necessary. • Educate patients and/or their families about the patient's condition and teach appropriate disease management techniques such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment. • Perform broncho-pulmonary drainage and assist or instruct patients in performance of breathing exercises. • Conduct lung capacity tests to evaluate patient's cardiopulmonary functions. • Provide emergency care, including artificial respiration, external cardiac massage and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation. • Complete all required respiratory therapy competency tests within specified timeline. • Demonstrate competency in identified technical skills for the respiratory department at the specific work area.
Other duties may also include Clinical Instructor (schedule dependent on the contract with Respiratory Therapy schools): • Supervise contracted Respiratory Therapy (RT) students from specified schools in the clinical hospital setting. • Orients RT students to their role in the hospital, which includes scope of service, policies and procedures, patient safety, and professionalism. • Orients RT students to the equipment used by RT at Children's. • Provides opportunities for directly supervised hands on learning in the clinical setting. • Responsible for accurate completion and documentation of all Respiratory Therapy performed with RT students. • Responsible for accurate “Hand off” of patient information and ordered Respiratory Therapy performed with RT students.

A Brief Overview
Under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Provides direct patient care in the Sleep Disorders Lab performing sleep studies and scoring of sleep studies and involvement is all sleep related clinics. Provides appropriate respiratory care specific to the pediatric population in accordance with hospital and sleep lab policy/procedures. Provides communication to physicians as appropriate based on findings of sleep study. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care and education, and sleep medicine clinics.
Essential Functions
Gather and Analyze Patient Information • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols. • Implements/prepares patient/caregiver education per plan of care. • Communicates education needs to patient/caregiver/staff at an understandable level and in a timely manner. • Documentation is complete, accurate and done in a timely manner. Follow up is completed to ensure results are obtained and relayed to parents/patients as appropriate. • Accurate information is obtained upfront to ensure proper care and billing of patient for services performed. • Treatments or procedures performed are documented in patient's medical record with accuracy and timeliness. • Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient and/or parent.
Testing Preparation Procedures • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary. • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary. • Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
Polysomnographic Procedures • Ability to perform sleep studies on two patients on any given night according to accepted published standards. • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate times to communicate with physician for direction on patient care issues. • Follow procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, ventilator titration, oxygen titration etc. to ensure collection of appropriate data. • Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.). • Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary. • Document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc). • Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, etc.). • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. • Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
Polysomnographic Record Scoring • Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. • Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals etc.) according to center specific protocols. • Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. • Completes monthly Inter-Scorer Reliability records through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
Service Management and Professional Issues • Knowledge of and practices risk management and safety precautions (i.e. trach sizes). • Charges are entered accurately and within identified time line. • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. • Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance. • Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory. • Respond to study/participant's procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information. • Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
