Provides respiratory care to patients in alternate sites in accordance with AdaptHealth's policies and procedures. Respiratory care will be preventative, rehabilitative, and palliative in nature. The RT will utilize all the resources available within the agency and community to accomplish care objectives. This position will provide education and care to the patient and communicate with team, physicians and referral sources and other patient agencies ensuring prompt attention to patient care issues.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
Utilizes various sources of information to attain greater competence about his or her position, including attending educational events (including attending optional in-services) and asking questions.
Utilizes acquired knowledge to increase his or her competencies.
Consistently demonstrates ability to adequately complete all documentation and charting procedures in compliance with company policy and procedures.
Maintains complete and accurate patient files by updating all documents per company policy and procedures.
Reviews Plan of Treatments and Care Plans to assure they are accurate and up to date.
Documents procedures including how the patient tolerated a procedure, side effects and other pertinent information.
Assists with authorization for Ventilator referrals for patients.

Maintains proficient knowledge of ventilator patients including compliance software, new technology, units, and supplies supported by Adapthealth.
Ability to demonstrate and instruct on use of vent units and supplies. Ability to make decisions for patients based on compliance data and assessment.
Communicates with team, physicians and referral sources and other patient agencies ensuring prompt attention to patient care issues.
Maintains working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and other third-party payer guidelines related to ventilation.
Electronically documents patient care activity, intervention provided and all communication regarding the patient. Documentation is accurate, complete and follows company standards.
Appropriate steps taken to ensure recommendations and orders sent are acknowledged and followed up in a timely manner.

The Respiratory Therapist performs duties according to physician's orders, utilizing knowledge and judgment in regard to technique and patient treatment. The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for adult, geriatric, pediatric and neonatal patient respiratory care as assigned. This position does not directly supervise any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Manages, assesses, plans, and evaluates care for patients with acute and/or chronic cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Performs established respiratory care procedures for patients within department scope of practice.
Ventilator management - Manages all modes of mechanical ventilation, including lung protective strategies, monitoring patient/ventilator interactions and lung mechanics. Manages delivery of aerosolized medications and metered dose inhalers. Manages delivery of exogenous gases (nitric oxide and heliox).
Airway Management - Responsible for management of artificial airways and tracheostomy tubes, tracheostomy tube exchanges and decannulation. Assists with fiber optic bronchoscopy and intubations. Assists with moderate sedation.
Patient monitoring- Monitors arterial blood gases, EtC02, SP02, blood pressure, vital signs, and other monitoring related to hemodynamics.
Respiratory protocols - Conducts assessment and implementation of protocols for oxygen, bronchopulmonary hygiene, bronchodilator, lung expansion, hypoxic risk protocol.
Oxygen therapy - Conducts assessment and implementation of oxygen therapy to include low and high flow oxygen therapy with various devices.
Performs EKGs as needed at some locations.
Additional job-related duties may include participation in Code Blue, Trauma Team, Rapid Response, Neonatal resuscitation and high-risk newborn deliveries.
Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures for medication administration.
Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory agencies.
Identifies work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) (within scope of practice), when appropriate.
Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, patient and caregiver.

Lead Therapist - (In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above)
Provides guidance and leadership for staff during assigned shifts (acts as a resource, makes decisions as necessary).
Distributes workload for shift and assures proper assignments per qualifications/credentials of staff. Assesses staffing throughout the shift, adjusts as necessary, and assures staffing needs are addressed for the oncoming shift.
Performs quality assurance audits.
Provides manager with feedback of departmental needs and therapist performance.
Acts as a role model for the Respiratory Therapy staff in maintaining departmental policies and procedures and demonstrates leadership skills in handling interpersonal conflict and communication.
EDUCATION:
Required: As required for Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure/certification.
Preferred: Bachelors degree in related field.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Current Respiratory Therapist licensure with the Oregon Health Licensing office.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) registration.
NRP required to be assigned to NICU/FBC or to function as a lead therapist.
ACLS, and PALS within six (6) months of hire.
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
Ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements.
Ability to travel to all St. Charles Health System worksites as required.
Preferred: Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT), Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS), Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS), Asthma Educator Specialist (AE-C) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Receives and documents the order for respiratory equipment and or services from the customer service, patient, caregiver, physician, and or family member.
Collects additional information and or documentation needed from insurance or physician
Assesses the need of the patient and the best choice of respiratory therapy or services needed
Responsible for the instruction and education in the proper use and care of respiratory equipment according to the written policies and procedures for the patient, family, and or caregiver.
Communicates with the patient's physician on changes in patient's condition or needs and carries out adjustment to the patient's Plan of Care
Completes patient accounts paperwork including Plan of Care-treatment/assessments
Acts as liaison between SuperCare Health and the patient, family, caregiver and physician
Assumes full responsibility for their own actions, professional skills, and attitudes
Follow all policies and procedures as outlined by JCAHO
Follows up visit for respiratory patients and assists in continuity of care as needed and determined by policy and procedure
Provides 24-hour on call service, seven days a week as scheduled
Responsible for setting up respiratory equipment within the appointment/ETA given to ensure patient satisfaction
Provides services for marketing department and all other departments as necessary
Demonstrates timeliness, courtesy, sincerity and patience when dealing with patients.
Supports SuperCare Health by being loyal and informing the office of concerns and problems to be resolved
Understand and adheres to all of Ricks Medical Supply company policies
To remain knowledgeable to date on all products
Maintain a professional, safe, and clean work environment
Education and or Work Experience:
Graduate from accredited RT Care Program (licensed RCP)
Experience as Respiratory Therapist PRN
Thorough knowledge and skill related to respiratory care field
Excellent customer service and communication skills
People-sensitive characteristics with a genuine desire to help others
Detail oriented
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs

This is a Pediatric Respiratory Care position. Work units include NICU, PICU, Emergency Department, and pediatric & adult acute/intermediate care wards. Respiratory Therapists at OHSU provide bedside respiratory care modalities in accordance with hospital and departmental guidelines as ordered by healthcare providers.

Function/Duties of Position
* Provides therapeutic interventions including but not limited to: airway management, therapeutic gases and ventilator management, newborn resuscitation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

* Assists other Respiratory Care Practitioners and health professionals to provide quality patient care in the spirit of teamwork. Trains new Respiratory Therapists, students and other healthcare team members.

* Demonstrates an understanding of current and all new care modalities
and equipment.
* Completes all competency testing, required in-services and activities. Takes personal responsibility for maintaining competency for equipment and modalities within the Respiratory Care Practitioner scope of practice.

* Recognizes the need for guidance and uses expertise of others when appropriate.
* Utilizes appropriate chain-of-command and committee process to effect change.

Required Qualifications
* A current, valid Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner's (LRCP) credential issued by the Health Licensing Office for the State of Oregon and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (Upon hire).
* Minimum of an associate degree from a respiratory therapy education program supported or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
* Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association. Some positions may require ALCS, NRP or PALS certification within 6 months of hire, as indicated on position description.
