Report any adverse reaction or side effects such as skin irritation.
• Demonstrate Knowledge and skill in the use of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation in primary assignment area (i.e. neonate, infant, pediatric and adult) patient populations. Knowledge and skill includes device and interface selection, application, operational verification, troubleshooting, and modes of therapy. Assess effectiveness of therapy three times per shift. Report any adverse reactions or side effects such as skin irritation.
• Comply with all Department, Infection Prevention, and Safety policies and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of National Patient Safety Goals and relevant Standards from Joint Commission, Department of Health, CMS and other regulatory bodies.

Responsible for the assembly, sequential operation, and calibration of equipment and accessories to implement associated therapeutic regimens including, but not limited to, teaching inpatients and outpatients incentive spirometry as appropriate; instructs patients and family before discharge on pulmonary rehabilitation procedures (e.g., deep breathing, use of equipment at home, suctioning procedures).
Attends and participates in Medical Rounds and teaching conferences.
Documents patient outcomes and maintains other required documentation in patient chart and department records according to departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains open lines of communication with other disciplines to facilitate resolution of problems and patient care issues in a timely manner.

Performs infection control procedures (i.e. changing resuscitator bags, aerosol set-ups and recycling same as required); processes equipment on an as-needed basis.

* Demonstrate competency and working knowledge of all Respiratory Care instruments and equipment. Perform troubleshooting, problem resolution and proper disinfection/sterilization.
* Initiate, monitor and maintain oxygen/aerosol delivery devices and non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation devices.
* Perform effective airway management including oral/nasal airway placement, bag/mask ventilation, intubation and/or intubation assistance, emergent and scheduled tracheostomy tube changes. Demonstrate safe and appropriate suction techniques and use of artificial airways. Initiate and perform 'CPR'.
* Perform tracheostomy, endotracheal tube and oral care.
* Implement one way speaking valve trials per physician order.
* Assist physician with diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures.
* Complete initial and ongoing decannulation risk assessments with appropriate interventions and documentation.
* Perform and document timely Spontaneous Breathing Trial assessments for weaning readiness. Initiate and advance mechanical ventilator weaning per protocol.
