JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Program. Certified or Registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care. At least an Associate Degree or equivalent.
Minimum Work Experience: 2+ years experience in the respiratory field is preferred.
Required Licenses / Certifications: Registered with the NBRC as a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist. Licensed by the State of Idaho Board of Medicine. BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP required.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Broad knowledge in all aspects of the Cardio-Pulmonary system. Medical terminology. In-services appropriate hospital staff on respiratory issues. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides respiratory care to patients as assigned by the Hospital policies and procedures and also given on the physician's written or verbal order for both in-house and out-patient care. Consults with the physicians regarding the respiratory care delivered to his/her patients. Responsible for the safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medications, knowing their indications and contraindications. Knows and follows the indications and contraindications, the policy and procedures in administering therapeutic modalities to include: IPPB, IS, USN, HHN. Gauges are to be checked each shift to assure proper working condition. Broken gauges are to be replaced immediately, broken gauge placed in container for broken equipment and marked. Sets up oxygen cylinders and assures proper usage and safety measures are in place. Performs bedside PFT tests. May be requested to perform test in PFT lab following adequate training and/or orientation. Be a member of the "code team" responding to arrest situations. As part of the team may be expected to perform CPR (compression). Must be certified in CPR procedures annually. Sets up requested hemodynamic lines, calibrates monitors, and troubleshoots any problems that may occur.
Performs all aspects of artificial airway care. Able to perform deep blind tracheal suctioning on patients. Familiar with measuring devices to include, but not limited to, pulse oximeter, Wrights respirometer, oxygen blenders. Responsible for the set up, safety check, monitoring, and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators. Familiar with CPAP set up and administration of CPAP. Maintains accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in patients charts. Participation in reporting patient progress, and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift.

Responds to emergent situations that could require Respiratory support.
Respiratory Therapists should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean or stoop without difficulty. Respiratory Therapists should be able to easily lift 20 pounds. Moving or lifting of patients may require lifting of up to 50 pounds at times. Respiratory Therapists must have specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must have 1 year of experience. Must have BLS, ACLS. PALS and NRP may be required in some areas.

Emergency Response and Critical Care:

Administer resuscitation techniques, such as CPR, defibrillation, and advanced airway management, in emergency situations.
Assist with intubation, mechanical ventilation, and weaning from life support when necessary.
Patient Education and Support:

Provide guidance on lifestyle changes to improve lung health, such as quitting smoking, controlling asthma triggers, and managing chronic respiratory diseases.
Offer instruction on pulmonary rehabilitation exercises to strengthen lung capacity and improve overall physical health.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
Work closely with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop a holistic care plan for respiratory patients.
Attend multidisciplinary care meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment goals, and necessary adjustments.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families, ensuring they understand treatment plans and ongoing care needs.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient assessments, treatments, medications, and progress in accordance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
Ensure proper documentation for insurance billing, treatment plans, and patient updates.
Record patient responses to treatments, including vital signs, oxygen saturation, and any adverse reactions or complications.
Equipment Management:
Set up and maintain respiratory therapy equipment, such as mechanical ventilators, nebulizers, and oxygen delivery devices.
Ensure that all respiratory equipment is properly calibrated, clean, and functioning according to safety standards.

Provides respiratory care to patients as assigned by the Hospital policies and procedures and also given on the physician's written or verbal order for both in-house and out-patient care. Consults with the physicians regarding the respiratory care delivered to his/her patients. Responsible for the safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medications, knowing their indications and contraindications. Knows and follows the indications and contraindications, the policy and procedures in administering therapeutic modalities to include: IPPB, IS, USN, HHN. Gauges are to be checked each shift to assure proper working condition. Broken gauges are to be replaced immediately, broken gauge placed in container for broken equipment and marked. Sets up oxygen cylinders and assures proper usage and safety measures are in place. Performs bedside PFT tests. May be requested to perform test in PFT lab following adequate training and/or orientation. Be a member of the "code team" responding to arrest situations. As part of the team may be expected to perform CPR (compression). Must be certified in CPR procedures annually. Sets up requested hemodynamic lines, calibrates monitors, and troubleshoots any problems that may occur.
Performs all aspects of artificial airway care. Able to perform deep blind tracheal suctioning on patients. Familiar with measuring devices to include, but not limited to, pulse oximeter, Wrights respirometer, oxygen blenders. Responsible for the set up, safety check, monitoring, and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators. Familiar with CPAP set up and administration of CPAP. Maintains accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in patients charts. Participation in reporting patient progress, and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift.
