Job Summary and Qualifications
Assess, treats and cares for patients with pulmonary disorders. Responsible for the clinical administration of all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care modalities offered by the department.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
Education: Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
Experience: One year previous Respiratory Therapy experience preferred.
Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:
1. Required:
A. Must possess a current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, from the Texas Medical Board, to practice Respiratory Care in the State of Texas.
B. Must possess a current credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) OR must possess a current credential as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) BEFORE July 1, 2002 (Grandfathered CRT).
C. Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of employment.
2. Preferred:
A. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) must be obtained within 90 days of employment if required by department.
Essential Job Functions:
Operates and sets up devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable respiratory care products while following specific parameters for treatment.
Provides emergency care, including artificial ventilation, external cardiac massage, and assists staff with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Collects and analyzes arterial blood gases and is able to recognize normal, abnormal and critical values and able to provide appropriate corrective intervention.
Follows physician orders for treatment and evaluates requirements for treatment, such as treatment type, mode and duration of therapy, universal precautions, and medication dosage.
Monitors patient's response to therapy by evaluation of vital signs, arterial blood gases, auscultation of breath sounds, pulse oximetry and end-tidal CO2 measurement.
Consults with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals for changes in patient's status and works as part of the team to manage the patient's plan of care.

Job Summary and Qualifications

You will assist with placement of artificial airways. You will initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
You will monitor patient for therapeutic response. You will notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
You will assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
You will respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.

Essential Job Functions:
* Operates and sets up devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable respiratory care products while following specific parameters for treatment.
* Provides emergency care, including artificial ventilation, external cardiac massage, and assists staff with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
* Collects and analyzes arterial blood gases and is able to recognize normal, abnormal and critical values and able to provide appropriate corrective intervention.
* Follows physician orders for treatment and evaluates requirements for treatment, such as treatment type, mode and duration of therapy, universal precautions, and medication dosage.
* Monitors patient's response to therapy by evaluation of vital signs, arterial blood gases, auscultation of breath sounds, pulse oximetry and end-tidal CO2 measurement.

Summary:

Perform tracheostomy, endotracheal tube and oral care.
Implement one way speaking valve trials per physician order.
Assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy procedures.
Complete initial and ongoing decannulation risk assessments with appropriate interventions and documentation.
Perform and document timely Spontaneous Breathing Trial assessments for weaning readiness. Initiate and advance mechanical ventilator weaning per protocol.
Actively participate in the multidisciplinary early patient mobility program

Job DescriptionEssential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the overall clinical, technical and administrative functions at the location on record regarding the Home Respiratory Therapist program.
Responsible for the installation/delivery of respiratory therapist equipment and provision of all needed supplies and products to the patients in the home and ongoing assessment of patients and equipment.
Is responsible for clinical contact with the physician, referred contacts, health care practitioners, and others involved in the care of the patients referred to Sleep Management, LLC d/b/a VieMed for home respiratory therapist services.
Is responsible for the maintenance of records, charting, progress notes, clinical files, equipment records, preventative maintenance records, and other necessary documentation.
Is responsible to maintain accurate inventory of all Sleep Management/VieMed assets and supplies.
Is responsible for vehicle maintenance and service (paid for by Sleep Management, LLC d/b/a VieMed).
Ensures that vehicle is maintained per applicable accreditation standards at all times.
Is responsible to ensure all pertinent demographic information is updated regularly and with any change in personal or professional status.
Is responsible for the overseeing of all applicable regulatory rules and guidelines as pertains to the staff respiratory therapist.
Is responsible for orientation and training of subordinate or newly hired respiratory therapist staff service technicians.
Exhibits effective written and verbal communication skills. Adheres to cost-containment policies and procedures.
Works with the office staff to ensure prompt and accurate billing and documentation of services, including providing adequate information to satisfy third-party payor guidelines for coverage.
Works with all clinical, managerial, and sales staff to promote and market home respiratory therapist services to all referral sources.
Ensures proper, accurate, and safe operation of all equipment prior to installation.
Is required to provide availability for patient contact and response to patient needs.
Will work with fellow RTs in the area on a rotating on-call schedule.
Will work with team members (other RTs, PCC's and various departments) to insure tasks completed.

The RRT position is responsible for administering safe, professional, and competent respiratory care as ordered per physician, to patients with various respiratory disorders.
Performs arterial blood gas samples and perform sputum collection samples.
Evaluates patient health care status in relation to outcomes achieved as a result of respiratory therapy interventions and/or interventions by other team members.
Maintains and troubleshoots PFT equipment and other respiratory equipment.
Identifies patient care problems/needs; establishes patient outcomes in response to identified needs; and implements and documents patient care in collaboration with the health care team.
Performs simple pulmonary exercise tests (six-minute walk test).
Performs spirometry, lung volume measurements and diffusion capacity testing (PFT's).
Provides therapeutic and diagnostic use of medical gases, humidifiers and aerosols; the administration of drugs and medications to the cardiorespiratory system; ventilator assistance and ventilatory control; chest physiotherapy for bronchial hygiene; breathing exercises; respiratory rehabilitation; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; maintenance of natural airway and insertion and maintenance of artificial airways to assigned patient(s), new admissions and transfers to their floors within the facility.
Delivers patient condition shift report to therapist on the oncoming shift.
Clearly communicates with and provides education to patients and families concerning diagnosis, treatment, hospitalization and post discharge care concerning respiratory care.
Collaborates with the health care team to identify and meet respiratory therapy needs throughout the course of care
Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of each patient served.
Responds to emergency situations.
Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
Must be a graduate of a C.A.A.H.E.P. approved respiratory therapy program. High School Diploma or GED is required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
1. Current practitioner's license in the state of Texas is required.
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required
3. BLS certification is required.
4. Advanced life support certification is recommended.
