What you will do Performs routine respiratory therapy procedures including IPPB, O2 therapy, and humidity/aerosol therapy in an assigned area on patients. Establishes and maintains ventilation and airway care for assigned patients and provides ventilatory support to patients receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Performs advanced respiratory care techniques, including but not limited to: invasive pressure monitoring, including ICP, pulmonary artery catheters, cardiac output determinations, administration of Nitric Oxide, and other gases. Assists physician in insertion of catheters as needed. Performs arterial blood gas collection through line draws or punctures. Performs patient assessment and reassessment through observation of the patient, clinical data gathering, response to therapy and reports findings accurately making referrals to appropriate disciplines as needed. Provides educational development through guidance and teaching and serves as a technical resource person to the patient, patient's family, physician, students and other hospital staff regarding respiratory care procedures. Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors and performs preventative and routine maintenance on respiratory care equipment and instruments. Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Must be a graduate from an accredited, state approved, Respiratory Therapy Program. License: Must be currently licensed by the Mississippi Department of Health and/or Current Military validated licensure as allowed under special State or Federal exemptions. Certifications: Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or if a temporary MS license, eligible to become certified (must sit for the first available exam) and be credentialed by expiration date of temporary license. Must complete and maintain current BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer. Current certification in ACLS and Neonatal Resuscitation required at (or within twelve months of) job start (must complete required continuing education). Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training. Experience: One (1) year experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist preferred. Reports to: Manager of Respiratory Care. Supervises: Respiratory Therapist, when assigned. Physical Demands: Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Safe lifting practice is expected in all areas of job performance and employees are responsible to request help whenever needed, regardless of the weight, using available assistance, i.e. lifting devices or additional staff. Work involves using many physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposure of bodily fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease. Work involves using repetitive motions; substantial movements of the wrist, hands, and or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard. Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data to close vision. Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts, or weekends. Mental Demands: Must demonstrate keen mental facilities/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conductive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations. Special Demands: Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.) and MS Outlook. Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred. Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages. Must have a valid driver license as job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area with the employee providing his/her own transportation.

Provides respiratory care using critical thinking skills learned and refined through education and experience as a Respiratory Therapist. A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) demonstrates these skills by successfully completing examinations administered by the Nation Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and earning the credential "RRT." A Registered Respiratory Therapist is able to assess, evaluate results, and implement complex methods of providing care. Participates in the delivery of care and functions as a specialty clinical resource for other caregivers. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health and healing. Specifications Experience Minimum Required Recent clinical respiratory care experience (hospital, home care, skilled nursing facility) and/or previous respiratory care practice.
