What Does A Respiratory Therapy Technician Do At Mercy

* Responsibilities
* Performs the set up, administration and maintenance of all oxygen and air therapies, to include rounds on floors and in intensive care units.
* Performs basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, to include maintaining certification as a BLS First Responder by the American Heart Association.
* Performs physical assessment of patients.
* Performs all forms of floor therapy to departmental standards to include: IS, IPPB, IPV, handheld nebulizer, CPT, PEP therapy, peak flow, sputum induction, diaphragmatic and segmental breathing exercises, cough training, suctioning, and any other applicable therapies as outlined in the procedure manual.
* Performs all procedures in accordance with the Infection Control guidelines.
* Observes Universal Precautions consistently.
* Wears Personal Protective Equipment when appropriate.
* Performs all clerical work associated with rounds, floor therapy, and intensive care areas.
* Performs all documentation in patients’ charts to departmental standards.
* Acceptable barcode and medication policy compliance.
* Performs cleaning, pastuerization, packaging and distribution of all non-disposable Respiratory equipment.
* Monitors and maintains sufficient inventory of all appropriate Respiratory supplies, equipment, oxygen tanks, and other therapeutic medical gases for departmental use.
* Performs set-up and function checks of all ventilators and BiPaps.
* Coordinates Preventive maintenance on all appropriate equipment with Bio
* Med department.
* Meets Health System attendance standards.
* Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance.
