As a dynamic, client-focused Engineer 2, you will support the Municipal Team with environmental design for multi-disciplined water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will use judgment collaboratively to adapt methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments, apply principles of probability and statistics to assess engineering risks, and uphold ethical behavior in all engineering practices. Responsibilities Technical Responsibilities: - Public and private sector environmental engineering design for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure and treatment projects. - Work includes basic to moderate complexity planning, design, and permitting for municipal clients. - Ability to effectively present projects to clients and regulatory authorities. - Client interaction and meeting participation. - Participate in fieldwork supporting construction management activities.Performs moderate design tasks including computations and analysis. - Perform research and field investigations, collect data, and gather information or documents. - Develop and/or assist with tasks such as field activities including construction activities, material testing, CADD work, permit applications, and report writing. - Consult project team about regulations impacting projects; perform regulation research as needed. Types of projects you'd be working on: - PTSA WWTP Expansion project: RETTEW's wastewater treatment experts analyzed alternatives for treatment plant expansion as well as BNR. A key constraint in the alternatives analysis was to expand the treatment plant capacity using existing tankage. RETTEW recommended a membrane bioreactor (MBR) system for the upgrade because of lower operating and maintenance costs compared to other alternatives. The Authority subsequently hired RETTEW to proceed with engineering design services for the wastewater treatment plant expansion, and we developed competitive procurement documents for purchase of the associated MBR equipment. The engineering team is designing an automated process that will be operator-friendly. - Sudlersville water system design: RETTEW secured USDA funding for the project and designed the centralized system. RETTEW was responsible for designing the water treatment, storage, and distribution systems; permitting the water system, and overseeing the construction of the systems. In addition, RETTEW prepared the construction documents, technical specifications, and plans for the construction of the water systems. We coordinated among USDA, MDE, and MDSHA to uphold the requirements of each administration. This project ensures the distribution of clean water to Sudlersville residents and improves the overall health and safety of those living and working in the area. - Asylum Run Interceptor Replacement: RETTEW designed and replaced approximately 4,400 LF of VCP with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sanitary sewer line, as well as 14 48-inch manholes. The project also involved the construction of an access/maintenance road for staging and additional workspace, as well as improving a section of the Capital Area Greenbelt trail. Requirements: - BS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Biological Engineering, or similar technical fields. - EIT required. - Minimum two years of environmental or civil engineering experience. - Good written and verbal communication skills.
