Prepare vehicles for paint by functions such as sanding, light body work, taping, and chemically washing items to achieve a quality painting surface.
Responsibilities:
Occasionally perform body work of repairing holes, major dents and other general body work functions.
Buffing and polishing to obtain an acceptable quality of the finished product.
* Seal all seams and prepare all products properly.
* Wipe down all areas to be painted with a degreaser and solvent.
* Grinding all welds and filling with body filler.
* Mask off edges and areas where paint is not required.
* Fill any dents and gouges in metal.
* Air file, mix sand, and apply body fillers to finished surface.
* Use of double action sander.
* Apply caulking to proper areas.

SCOPE: Perform duties to check and prepare units for paint and operate a spray gun or other equipment to apply a full range of industrial finishes on plastic, aluminum and steel surfaces while monitoring work to ensure desired results.
1. Work from specifications, shop orders and work instructions.
* Review material and product requirements. May prepare any preparation operations as required such as masking and hanging parts onto holding devices. Obtain specified paint or other coating material and appropriate spray gun. Check operation and make preliminary adjustments or repairs to paint gun.
* Receive bodies, cabs, doors or other components for primer, intermediate or final application of coating materials, check substrates and general condition.
* Activate paint according to supplier recommendation. Apply primers and multiple top coats in prescribed sequence. Set baker temperature and timer and bake according to manufacturer recommendations.
* Clean and maintain spray equipment after each use. Clean and maintain paint booth according to approved maintenance schedule. Visually check work and record production. Notify supervisor of unusual equipment or operating problems.
* Must be able to go to other paint facilities and perform job functions when called upon.

What you'll do:
The Painter is responsible for sanding, cleaning, masking, and painting transformer units and fabricated components which require final finishing. All units must be painted before final inspection. The individual must produce an eye-pleasing, durable, painted finished product.
In this function, you will:
* Be responsible for the proper preparation of all surfaces to be sprayed; this includes bare metal areas and the proper sanding, feather edging of previously painted surfaces.
* Check the Bills of Material for correct color and specified mil thickness.
* Adjust and periodically check all pump pressures, heater temperatures, air and fluid pressures to maintain the best possible spraying application condition.
* Change filters and maintain cleanliness of spray booth associates floor areas on a scheduled basis.
* Use crane to move units into spray boot and use crane to store repainted units in staging area for inspection.
* Cross train and perform duties in other work areas of the team.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
* Minimum of six (6) months previous spray-painting experience.
* Minimum of six (6) months previous manufacturing experience.

**What you'll do:**
The Spray Painter sands, cleans, masks, and paints all Terra-Tran units, Power units, field returns, and fabricated components which require final finishing. All units must be painted before final inspection.
**In this function, you will:**
+ Prepare all surfaces to be sprayed properly. This includes bare metal areas and the proper sanding, and feather edging of previously painted surfaces.
+ Be knowledgeable as to what bushings and associated transformer accessories must be masked to prevent them from being painted.
+ Check the Bills of Material for correct color and specified mull thickness. Record serial number of units repainted and affixes to unit for identification.
+ Adjust and periodically check all pump pressures, heater temperatures, and air and fluid pressures to maintain the best possible spraying application condition.
+ Paint viscosity at the beginning of the shift and at mid-shift, uses a Zahn cup and stopwatch to check paint viscosities when required.
+ Check and maintain proper fluid and air pressure in pressure pots used for spraying all special colors.
+ Check units with great care to ensure that no areas have been missed.
+ Change filters and maintain the cleanliness of spray booth associates floor areas on a scheduled basis.
+ Clean and lubricate all spray guns at the end of the shifts. Clean and maintain personal respirator on a scheduled basis.
+ Procure all paints from Paint Room as needed, using hand cart and barrel truck.
+ Operate 15,000 lb. electric walker to move smaller units into spray booth.
+ Coordinate with crane operator all moves of large units in and out of the spray booth.

+ Previous industrial, manufacturing, or automotive spray-painting experience.
