What Do You Like About Working There?

They pay was decent. Enjoyed the ability to have one on one pt care and treat them with dignity. I also had the ability to give the nurse that was assigned that pt a break because I would do as much as I could to keep the pt happy and help do whatever I could so the other staff could concentrate on their other pts. Because I worked for the acute dept which was doing dialysis on pts in the hospital. Sometimes pts were just lonely and wanted to talk, others might have been exhausted and wanted to sleep. But during the time I had with that pt, I tried to make them comfortable with whatever they might want to talk about, some were angry and they just needed to vent. But having a broad range of nursing experience I felt I was lucky to be able to spoil that pt for just that short period I was with them. I will always love caring for people, that’s why I became a nurse... Show More

What DON'T You Like About Working There?

Management. Was very unfair! If you weren’t part of the “clique” then you we’re screwed. Some had wonderful schedules but most didn’t. If you went above management to try to plead your case , they would start watching you to see if you screwed up, I was never part of the clique so I was not a favorite. I worked in the acute dept. Our office went through 5 managers if that says anything. Scheduling was very unfair some would get 4 day weekends regularly and some would get stuck with all night call on their Friday before weekend off. You had no one to go to, because they were all buddies and they would punish you for complaining. Some people got whatever they wanted. If you wanted to train in something new like pheresis you couldn’t unless you were a fav. If you get lucky and get a preceptor that truly loves to teach your very lucky, because most are very rude and treat you like an idiot. My precept was awful but I put up with it because I wanted to learn the job. I had 20+ years nursing exp. most of the older Staff are grumpy and hate their job. Some are very lazy and don’t lift a finger for the pt unless it’s related to dialysis. They have pt call for their nurse. To wrap up I want to say that in general most employees hate their job, not because of what they do but because of the treatment of the management and favoritism. And the worst part was that none of us new each other. Gossip was rampant. So many unhappy people. Our most recent manager was alll about staff getting along. But she was influenced by the old staff and her mind was poisoned against anyone who wasn’t in the clique. I’m sure this is a common problem. But I feel I lost my job for something that if anyone else would have done, would have been reprimanded, written up or something but not terminated. I feel that they were just waiting for me to do something. And it happened. I won’t go into detail. But I can say we work very long hrs and are usually exhausted sometimes so tired that if you’re pt doesn’t talk you might even nod off. So there it is. That was their chance to get rid of me. Because I refused to kiss their buts. Oh well I look at it as a new lease on life! I’ve been a nurse for almost 30 years so I’m sure I won’t have any problems finding something new... Show More

What Are Your Favorite Benefits/Perks?

The benefits were pretty good. You could build up vacation time pretty easily. But using it was a different story. You couldn’t make vacation plans because you wouldn’t know if you’re vacation was approved until like the month before. And you had to get coverage if you wanted to take vacation on your weekend to work. The PRN staff can work as much or as little as they want they didn’t make them commit to anything prn is the way to go. But you must get on the FAV LIST. There was some freedom with the position. You just had to do your 2 pts a day, of course unless you were on call. There really weren’t any perks to this job. I guess the pay was decent. But long days... Show More
